Ha! Iโ€™ve been lurking and not contributing for some time now but a new PB is worth sharingโ€ฆ..

Iโ€™m still on a session at Dintonโ€™s Black Swan as I type thisโ€ฆโ€ฆโ€ฆArrived at dawn yesterday. Clearly lots of fish still in the big โ€˜winter bayโ€™ despite being on the back of a big SW. Lapped a couple of times, debating where to plot up with 3 nights ahead. Decided to keep it simple and put my rigs where the fish were actually showing rather than where they might end upโ€ฆโ€ฆ

Cast 3 singles out for drops amongst the emergent Eel grass which they seem so attracted to. Decided to get my head down for a couple of hours-Iโ€™d set off at 2.45am. An hour or so later Iโ€™m woken by a screaming Neville. Lifted in to a very heavy feeling fish which was dogged rather than spectacular. Worryingly, it hit the surface about 25 yds out and started shaking its head at me as I led it in; with braided mainline Iโ€™m always anxious when they do this with no water depth to cushion the lunges. Fortune was on my side and I netted a Common that got larger with every yard I gained.ย

With the assistance of 3 other anglers we weighed and photographed an amazing creature of 53lb 2oz! Blown away!_NWT9392.thumb.jpeg.f39cef29c45d056bf05565be72c6ee46.jpegย

Also during the storm, I heard a right commotion behind me in the woods and saw a roe dissappear like a rocket past me in the half light ,in the morning I put my 'tracking ,predation head on ' and soon found this ...

Is that "Petty's comon" or another one?

Either way top angling fella.ย

I'll have to pop down one day and meet you,ย  I'm only a 20min cycle ride away.ย

As for them being on the back of a SW, they always used to be on the back of a low pressure SW but would follow a high pressure SW. I used to love a big low pressure SW on there as most would be down the boat club/golf bank and leave winter bay well alone.ย

Congrats once again on a magnificent carp.ย

Itโ€™s known as โ€˜Saddlebackโ€™. Pettyโ€™s is usually 46-48 when it comes out (rarely!).

Interesting what you say about weather conditions-they certainly get around the place fast when they want but theyโ€™ve been stacked up in the bay for ages. I was on the edge of them in 17/18. Most were in 16-10/11 and then moved upto 13 when I left. Lost one on my last morning๐Ÿ˜ฌ.

Oh yes they certainly move a lot.ย

I was in 30/31 one night and had 3 fish by 9am. The wind turned towards "big no dogs" and the fish were rolling towards there within half hour. I packed up and moved to "big no dogs"ย  and had 3 more that day.ย

Knowing the weather and air pressure was a big thing for me and a few others in my time on there.ย

I've only ever seen " petty's" twice, once in Lee's photos and the other was close up in some snags in "spooky bay". It was only a few weeks after Lee had caught the fish so roughly knew the weight and I saw a mirror roll up in the snags with it that absolutely dwarfed it. It's certainly a special lake/complex with special carp.ย

I spent the afternoon and evening on the beach at Felixstowe Saturday, no thornies, but did manage a couple of doggies and whiting.ย

That is a decent size ray for your lad, sizeable across the wings. Bet they were like trying to pull the plug out...

Just got back from a 24 with my dad, we had a wicked session ๐Ÿ‘Œ he had a 21 and two doubles ๐Ÿ‘I did 25lb 8oz, 21lb 4oz and a mid double ๐Ÿ‘

I think they are getting ready to spawn, they were all really plump and as we were leaving there were a few crashing around the back of one of the islands so that's gonna probably be it for a couple weeks now. Maybe have a dabble at some sea fishing ๐Ÿ‘
