The thing is there is no need to read the mags anymore when you have lots of DVDs, a lot of them being free. I've not bought a mag for years now. Not because of the DVDs that are available but because nothing new was ever written. Nothing new really comes out and when it does you here it through the carpvine before it hits the mags anyway. I dread to think how many feature finding articles I've seen in mags over the years. Some of the rigs that are very fashionable now were about many many years ago, long before they were publicized in the mags. My personal thinking is that it's not the new stuff you need to succeed but the stuff that has been forgotten about. It worked before and will work again. I had 100's of mags that I'd kept over the years but binned most of them. All I have now is about 100 carpworld's, though they will be binned at some point no doubt. Though reading through them, most being from the 90's you do stumble across some good stuff. A shame they are gone as carpworld was carp fishing for me when I started out.2 points

As my current water is not particularly carp friendly, I've been exploring its pike potential with a few trips this year. Over 4 trips a mate and I have had some good fish, pike from 2 to 21lbs, normally a couple each trip, although we did manage a blank between us each day. The mate in question is the friend who managed to catch the twenty I lost last year, really into his fishing now, and enjoying it. Our first pike trip produced 3 to me, and Colin saved a blank with the small jack last knockings. My fish were two around 6lb, and a scrappy 16 with a missing pec. The next trip, Colin managed another couple of jacks, and again I had 3, topped with a 17. The 17 was a bit of a nightmare, not the fish, but the idiot dog walker who as I was unhooking it, got so close to the rod tip, moved it away from his face, and pulled the treble under my nail, more problems unhooking me than the pike. Unfortunately we both blanked next trip, but hey ho. A week later we were back at the venue, after a couple of casts I cast a whole joey mackeral, and within minutes, a finicky take with just a few bleeps and a nodding rod tip, no line pulled out the clip I hit into this beauty at 21lb The smile is very real, only my second ever pike over 20, worthy of a new PB at 21. The ultimate pva bag?

Thanks I think it isn't a bad starting point, should have ingredients to draw them in I think from above, and make a little cloud of attraction from the off Salmon fry crumb is going in when I get round to getting some, it's on my radar, as a small extra bit π I have also got some GLM, brocacell, clo, fishmeals and other goodies at home so can add those if needs be When you say it won't be cheap, I think the price can be slightly offset by the amount of freebies you use alongside it, as I think if I am looking for a bite at a time I doubt I will use more than a couple of handfuls of boilies over a spot, and I've also decided I might not do a lot of prebaiting this year, as my shifts make it hard to do it regularly, maybe if I see an opportunity to get something going I will, and I might leave a bit in after a session but the key to this plan is to get the bag to do the work for me a bit π€π1 point -
Cheers mate Not on the lakes mate she barks at people coming close to the bivvy, likes to let me know someone is coming π I take her on the river and canal though, thereβs some ropey people who walk the banks down there especially at night so donβt mind her barking to let me know someone is coming lol. She is 2 this month so still pretty young, hopefully she grows out of it/calms down as she gets older π sheβs pretty hard to settle on the bank as well, wants to play all the time and doesnβt like sitting down for too long π©π did yours calm down as he got older??1 point

She's an absolute stunner mate. Do you still take her fishing? My little staffy was a nightmare on the bank, bless him. Great fun but stalking opportunities became scaring opportunities.1 point

For out-and-out attraction you're on the right lines buddy. The only thing that might be more effective (bearing in mind you're planning on fishing these over a baited area so you already have a general level of attraction) is to ditch the man-made/processed baits altogether and go with a bag of maggots/worms. Of course you can only take advantage of this if nuisance species allow it!1 point -

Been on BAF this morning π Fish hydro Stinger oil 1kg Crayfish meal 1kg Krill powder More 2mm pellets Amino hookbait soak That's not a bad way to start this trial i think π Going to try and prepare some special hookbaits too π1 point -
I love fishing the rivers, especially for barbel. They must be amongst the best fighting species on the retrieve. Mind you, a decent perch can give you a good scrap! Ian.1 point

Yeah mate they are nuts ainβt they π I used to have one and she was mad for anything that moved. I tried taking her when I was a teenager and she jumped in the water when I wasnβt looking and swam after a duck and ended up on the island. I managed to call her back but didnβt take her much after that ππ Would be good π itβs good on the canal/river though with strange people walk past at night, she will make herself known and they give the bivvy wide birth πππ1 point

I would say youll do that more than easily . At 40 yds I would bother with a leader assuming your using 15 Lb line or above1 point

Carp Mags

I have a fairly regular subscription to Carpology. They keep enticed me with crazy offers. Last time I had 10kg of Live System, pop-up's and wafters as well as a 500ml bottle of Amino 365, a book and a 6 month subscription for a lot less than I would have paid otherwise. https://www.carpology.net/shop/subscriptions/carpology-sticky-krill-returns-deal/ I found this on their Site, 10kg of Sticky's Krill which would set you back about Β£100 alone with the book and 1 litre of Krill liquid, pop-ups and a 6 month subby for Β£69.99 and normally about a fiver for postage. The way I look at it, I'm getting the magazine for free (and some more). I do enjoy the mag and look forward to reading it every month so as far as I'm concerned, it's win-win.1 point -
Should I be dropping my inline leads?
yonny reacted to elmoputney for a topic
Sorted it I think, fox leads and tadpoles, the lead will detach from the rubber before the swivel releases, meaning the lead is free running pretty much from the off I think and without an insert , I am pretty confident it will be fairly safe even quick change with a leader 10/10 times the lead pulled before the swivel and I am quite confident that lead wouldn't get stuck unless it was super weedy but then this probably isn't the right set up for that anyway1 point -
Cheers mate. It's still early days but the main thing is that my daughter seems happier now that there's not an atmosphere in the house. Just need the weather to sort itself out so I can do a few hours fishing instead of sitting indoors mulling things over.1 point

I should of been going fishing tomorrow only my second trip to my new club water, I've been so busy at work with this bad weather it's messed all my plans up. So I was really looking forward to tomorrow everything sorted, some new pop ups and glugs to try out and guess what I've only gone and fallen down the stairs this morning top to bottom. blooming stupid dog only went and left a toy on the stairs in the night and blooming stupid me slipped on it. I'm struggling to walk never mind fish, I'm absolutely gutted. ππ. Looking on the bright side I'm hopefully doing my first over nighter next weekend Sunday till Monday, maybe till Tuesday if I'm lucky. ππ€0 points
