Do you ever get hooked on a water? Just spent a night at a local water and just had the feeling like I'm at the wrong place. Its not a bad water either, 4.5 acres, 250ish fish, few high doubles, lots of 20s and a few 30s. Makes a nice winter water really lol.

Ever since I started fishing this 91 acre res, nothing seems to scratch the itch like that place and if I fish somewhere else, all I can think of is fishing the res 🤦‍♂️🤣

I know exactly what you mean mate, when a water gets under your skin, you just gotta fish it out of your system! There’s one or two waters I’d be on now if I hadn’t moved back to Sussex, I haven’t been able to find their like on the waters around here

I know exactly what you mean.

My ticket is a 300 acre res (when full) & is said to hold a few 50+, with the average high 20 early 30.

I've only had a 24lb common and PB 36 mirror 8n the past few years since C19.

Every time I go somewhere else, I think why am I here it's a puddle.

Only problem is the new head bailiff is a complete bar steward. Makes up loads of rules (which are not on my list of rules when I joined i must add), the last 6 visits have resulted in disagreements,  on interpretation of his word (& BS rulemaking).

This weekend,  all set up with my youngest son (9), he comes along & protests he's (my son) not insured to be in the boat??

So have to pack up early and my son is broken hearted after waiting in the car, while I go over and pack up...

STRANGE!! The year before was almost no problem with my eldest son (12) , apart from he thought we had 2 people and all set up in 1 boat. Soon put him straight, only extra bed chair and crisis averted.

I will not renew next year, which is gutting,  but I just can't stand power ego bailiffs (reason I gave up my ticket at Yately Car Park).

Currently feeling upset & need of a decent new syndicate with a few beauties to go for.

Im loooking forward to exclusive members do in March🤞

Why don't you speak to the lake owners or something and tell them you feel like you're being bullied, victimised by their new bailiff.  Shouldn't want to leave a lake you love for those reasons , that's just rubbish.

It's Southern Water, so I don't expect they'd give a carp.

The old guy running the fishing side, has retired & this wally has taken over the last 2 seasons.

I'm in 2 minds, but my heart is saying leave.

Still might be worth an email to someone or a letter so you can stay anonymous if you want.

Reading this has made me angry and sad, can’t imagine how you feel.
As emmcee says an email or letter to the committee, hopefully they got one that is.

I had a right miserable old curmudgeon on my local water. The first  time we met went badly as I caught him climbing over a fence then he just shouted "ticket" at me when he appeared in my swim. I told him he couldn't be a bailiff as I had seen him climb the fence and asked to see proof. He said he'd left it in  the car and I told I wasn't showing it to him until he produced it. He stormed off and turned up 10 minutes later with it and then demanded to do a rig check. He also let slip into the conversion that he had a shotgun, like you do.

I wrote a letter of complaint to the Chairman and did get a call from the head bailiff a month later but not an apology. He did mellow a bit but  was still a bit of a Hitler to the general public on the lake who got lost and was often heard shouting across.

Luckily he's gone now and the new bailiff is a really nice old boy who you'd happily make a brew.

I would definitely make a complaint and list all the problems you've had with him in a calm and logical manner. They would have to  look into it and confront him and perhaps he is just oblivious to the chaos he causes. If you do nothing, it will continue as no-one will know anything is wrong.

I've got a water that is right under the skin, my current syndicate, although I'm not sure if it's Chestnut who goes 42'ish or the big uncaught common I and others have seen.

45acres with around 165 carp, so it's not overstocked, and is in a private estate.

The growth rate of some of the fish has been phenomenal!

Please!

I really loved Alton Water and was catching a few, but the problems got me to the state of apoplexy; Eastern European anglers casting lures across anglers lines, I had the same two cast across me two days on the trot. The amount of barbecues and rubbish left on the bank got ridiculous by said Eastern anglers.

I would frequently fill a bin bag and call the bailiff if I was a long way from the car park bins so he could put  it in the buggy

Parking became a nightmare, worrying about your car being safe.

When I complained about the problems, I was told my ticket would not be renewed. Let's just say I'm not a fan of the reservoir manager or Anglian Water.

I get all this, im back on a club complex i fished way back in 2007-2009, i feel like im home again, just feels so right being back here but yet to catch, and its well stocked 4 acre lake with around 170 carp.

I will say its really well run, as tidy as can be, proper made up being back on here

Only ever had one membership cancelled that was due to a clash of personalities between myself and a longstanding member turned up one day and didn't just get told which peg to fish but escorted to it, me being me well you can guess the rest.

They was always looking for a reason after that, never could find one angling wise,  never so much as left dog fur in my peg when leaving, had enough in the end so I gave the lads something to grass me up for lol.

That's sad you feel driven away from somewhere you like, don't want to rock the boat but equally want to smash his face in 🤷‍♂️

Bailiffs hey where do they find these trolls?  They camp in the best swims, talk BS, sheep you up then try to get you out coz you're better than them - joke situation!

My syndi seems to have more bailiffs than members lol

Strangely enough on Nazeing the bailiffs were the opposite side of the coin. They did do a ticket check almost every day.

In the rules it was 'no wading' so when I had a fish snag me up I did go in for it to get it out from the undercut where it had caught up in the roots. The bailiff had heard my alarm and came round to help and approved my actions. He also took the pics of the bionic common that was only just 20lb.

Another bailiff would happily tell you (or me) where they were baiting, and while I never knowingly went into the swim if I did know, I did once by accident on seeing a fish show. He shrugged it off as he knew how much I walked around the whole complex.

Or Gary, walking around in the dark about 6pm in winter, Sky heard him and barked, so "oh Hi Nick, no worries Mate I know you have your ticket".

I did have one bailiff who @kevtaylor I will use your word, mine wouldn't be so polite, troll, didn't like me fishing. I used to fish a Saxmundham Angling Club water called Loam ponds, and one of my favourite swims was right next to the 'no fishing bay, not in the rule book, but he didn't like people fishing in there. I used to sit on the ground or leaning against a tree about 2metres from my rods watching the fish swim along the treeline and go into the bay. It wound him up something chronic as I 'wasn't in my swim'.

You could guarantee as soon as a car pulled into the car park, 20minutes later he would walk over.

I really wound him up one day, as well as my club ticket I put the rule book in my pocket, and fished a tiny stalking swim on the far side of the bay next to the pumphouse. 20minutes after arriving, "You can't fish there". My reply was along the lines of "its a swim so yep I can".

"I'm a bailiff, it's in the rules, you can't fish in the bay". Out came the rule book from my pocket and turned to specific Loam Ponds rule pages, and swim map, there was my swim marked nicely with a number 15. His face, strangely enough he never bugged Bruce or me again, although sadly the original Leney carp were lost to otters and the water was taken over by a syndicate.

We had one strutting about like Terry Hearn coz he had a few out the easier lakes, came on the main lake and 30+ blank nights later he's a broken man, and now an annoying sheep 🐑 lol

Didnt see him after a while 🤣

Pointed a rifle at my mate on the small lake, not sure how he got away with that one looking back, he's still seething now 🤣

Not so much hooked as I haven't fished it, but... I'm all set for this year if I want to, Bluebells, always had a yearning for it as Bluebells would always be in the angling press years back, I'm pretty good at timing for dodging the super busy times and you can drive to the pegs, which is the main selling point of a lake these days, means more travelling but so long as I'm not humping barrow loads around that's the main thing.

Still in half a mind to convert the mini van into a camper wagon  just struggling to see the point in it when I'd be in the bivvy anyhow, probably just use it for storage and a charging station.

That's a big advantage for me now.

We can't keep the car behind the swim, it does have to go in the car park, but unloading without pushing a barrow any distance is a big plus.

I struggle to even push a barrow with my pike rods and one bag on it around 100metres!

Need a few decent over 50's only lakes, I used to like a mid week only ticket not many do them now, you get far too many anglers trying to turn a hobby into a paying job, bait testers being the worst of the lot on a small water.

There's one that I'm currently on about a 7 acre low stock lake but some nice fish.

Not many fish come out in the day (but I keep trying knowing it's a difficult water as I find that a challenge) but the lake comes alive in the night but.... night tickets are like gold dust. Really want a night ticket to get this water out my system

If you are not likely to get a night ticket it may be worth looking at stalking the fish come the better weather, im planning to do this on my local water
