Can't comment on the Alpaca socks but I do have merino wool socks and think they are excellent.

I have several pairs of merino socks for work and fishing and they are good. Might be slightly pricey compared to bog standard socks but they are good and last a long time.

Thanks very much fellas .

Merino are good, if you go in B and M they also do some socks which are pretty great, called hot feet or something they are labelled work socks, really thick and about a fiver a pair.

When I quickly read the first word of your post , Elmo , I thought " here we go , Elmo has an alternative opinion 🙄 " . There's only one Elmo ( thank goodness ) 😁.

Thanks for the tip about B&M though .

I'm in the Merino wool socks group.

Merino wool even when wet insulates you and keeps warm.

One thing I do do is wash by hand rather than stick through the washing machine.

Good tip my Merino ones seem to have shrunk a bit in the wash

Talking of socks can anyone beat my Christmas haul 22 pairs, 🙄😂🤶🎄

I smashed it this sockmas.

Well you won't be needing to buy any for a few years...

Washing them in the machine tends to tighten the fibres up, so they actually don't insulate as well because they can't trap so much air.

I can’t go down the road of Merino socks, my feet would rip them apart, picture the bark of a very old oak tree 🤔 that’s what the soles of my feet look like. Just a bit lazy looking after them I get the black and decker sander out now and then when they get really bad.

Look after your feet mate, they do a lot of work keeping you on the road, you wouldn't drive a car with bald tyres, keep that for your head 😂

I just use the British Army ECW socks. Dead cheap, dead warm, last forever.

Although I must say that the best thing for keeping feet warm is keeping your legs warm. A decent pair of thermal trousers keeps the warm blood circulating and the feet toasty.
