Hello Richard I remember Chris Ball writing that it's all about balance i.e. he used at one point a fibreglass 1 1/2 lb t.c. rod with 6lb maxima and landed 20s , but that would have been in open water ? . IMO it's like Elmo says you need to absorb that initial surge when the fish is hooked , with a through actioned rod and a stretchable line .

Thanks fellas . The reason I ask about loop size is because of the height the pop up will sit at ( which is what I use for most of my fishing ) . I remember a thread which was talking about smaller carp approaching the pop up along the bottom of the lake and so the pop up would be obviously off the bottom ( and possibly make them wary ) , but larger carp because of their bellies would have to approach at an angle from above and therefore the fact that the pop up could be up to 3" off the bottom wouldn't be so blatantly obvious . 😃

Hi Finchey I see that you are using a SZ.6 rather than a SZ.4 like Emmcee , and I'm wondering if like me you are targeting 20s' rather than 30s' and 40s' ? . As you mentioned Bank Tackle , I asked them if they had any plans to introduce Ready Made Rigs , and they will be in the future , which is just what I wanted to learn as I always seem to find excuses for not making up some rigs . 😃
