Just started using these, any advice welcome 👍🏻 Mainly, how do you choose what colour? Am figuring that the colour depends on what boillie am using to scatter, however am planning on a chod rig as the weeds are bad where I fish.

Yellow   pink  white   Red  orange then same as bottom baits. 

Mine are yellow -pineapple  pink-fish   white -cream toffee coconut

Bait (I think) is a personal preference, I use Sticky Manilla in all versions... Bottom Bait, Wafters, Pop Ups, Dumbells in Original Baige & White... also some Sticky Yellow Pineapple n Butryic & Pink STINKY Krill... all have matching booster sprays to add a bit of enhancement.

I went through a stage of having fluoro yellow, fluoro green, fluoro pink, orange, white, purple, or yellow as the fish in the lake I was fishing at the time would change what they wanted or would accept week to week or session to session. 

In one winter for a couple of weeks, the working pop-up was Green Zing, fluoro green, then it was Pineapple in fluoro yellow, a couple of weeks of popped up sweetcorn, then Monster Crab in orange on one rod, and Squid and Octopus in pink on the other, and orange Tutti Frutti produced the occasional fish.

The Strawberry ice cream in red failed to catch, The Secret in purple caught a few, then all of a sudden halfway through a week session in winter, coloured pop-ups stopped working and from then on every fish came to Smokey Mackeral food source bottom baits.

 

When I moved onto Nazeing I simplified my baits; Squid and Octopus (pink) and Monster Crab (orange) were close to the Smokey Mackeral in terms of smell, so I used them as the top bait on a snowman, and caught regularly on that, along with a dark red Garlic Oil and Spice combination of my own, used as pop-up topper or as pop-up.

 

Bromeswell in spring last year, the pop-ups that worked were The Secret, and Pineapple Juice.

 

On the reservoir last season I just carried my Garlic Spice combination, and fished that on one rod. If I caught on my food source bottom bait, (KMG) I didn't catch on the pop-up, and if I caught on the pop-up I didn't catch on the bottom bait. A few fish this year have come on snowman baits, a pink KMG pop-up over a KMG bottom bait.

 

You can either get every flavour or colour combination going, and keep chopping and changing, until you find what works, although fluoro yellow Pineapple are a pretty good cert on many waters, possibly confusing the heck out of yourself, or just get a couple of pop-ups, maybe one to match your bottom bait and that pineapple, and have faith.

My names Elmo and I am a pop up aholic I have around 30 pots at a guess, various colours and flavours, I still don't know what works best, if its weedy I would probably stick with yellow, pink, or white though, if you can get them feeding confidently any will work 👍

Ok, I have took all advice on board 😁(and thank you for that chaps ) I’ve put white ones pink ones yellow ones double coloured ones and banoffee ones in my evil-bay cart for next week  😁

Colours shmullers, i got pink ones and white ones anything else is the baits non dyed colour, no true Scotsman would.... you must be English ha ha

The most important thing is buoyancy imo. Lots of off-the-shelf pop ups are terrible for this.

Very similar to me. 

Late winter/early spring I'll carry whites and match the hatch. 

Spring, summer, autumn and early winter I'll carry washed out yellow, yellow, washed out pink and match the hatch.  

Winter i carry match the hatch and orange. 

Yellow pop ups are my go to primarily though.  I'd say 75% of all my pop up caught fish have been on yellows.

I used to think colour did not matter until I had first hand experience.

i wasn’t using pop ups as such but topped bottom baits, I’d been catching well with white toppers, then one weekend I could not get a bite yet I was on fish. Eventually I changed the toppers on one rod to Orange and caught two fish very quickly. So now I do vary the colours, to see if they prefer one to the other.

Hello Ark

I've just remembered that Sticky do their Signature Pop Ups in a mixed pot of washed out / pale , yellow , pink and white , BUT I'm not sure about  their buoyancy - I tend to recast every 2 hrs or so ; the Sticky pop ups do feel a different texture to the other pop ups I use i.e. a bit " chalky " ? .

I have a real issue with the sticky wafters being weird and solid if that makes sense they seem heavy and compacted, but I have caught quite an annoying amount of fish using them lol, they are almost a bait I don't want to work but the fish seem to like them for some reason 🤔

Very rare I use pop ups. I can’t remember if Iv had a fish on a pop up that is just using a pop up on a bottom rig. I use sticky baits small pop ups on a snowman rig in white yellow and pink , but had fish using trimmed down pop ups on a zig rig tho  ....if that makes any sense

Some makes are definitely more buoyant than others. 

Nutrabaits pop-ups used to be more critically balanced than pop-up, I have not used them recently so don't know if it is still an issue. 

Solar Pineapple and The Secret will pop-up a size 8 Solar101 hook nicely (largest hook size allowed on Bromeswell). 

Dynamite Monster Crab (orange) and Squid and Octopus were the same, although to go with Rod Hutchinson Monster Crab boilies I have been using their purple Monster Crab pop-ups. 

The Garlic and Spice is one of my own concoctions and is in a deep red.

I've really got into proper jobs lately I just find those seem to really work as they should smell amazing and I know they will still be up in the morning, 

I have yellow banana ones, Camo brown black pepper + ones,beige devil's dung and cheese, and white scopex special dumbells, at the moment I favour banana and BP+ though,

Imo any pop up that wont hold up a size 8 should be going straight in the bin!

I bought loads in different sizes and colours from a so called specialist hookbait company, to say I'm dissatisfied with all of them is an understatement.

Falling over after several hours in a few inches of water is NOT the one.  I'm pretty gobsmacked I've not slated the company but I'm past shouting about stuff nowadays.

In hindsight I should have purchased 1 pot and tested, not trusted the blurb and bought lots - noddy!

I guess I've got wafters for days/decades 🤣
