They are using the new link and fyber at the minute I believe. You can make a bait with the exact same nutritional profile as the Cell with 4 ingredients. I have seen the data analysis to show it. All of those ingredients are cheap cereals. In bulk you can make it for around Ā£3 a kilo of ingredients. Less if you bought ingredients in tonnes. No one has said these baits donāt work, itās just that those who know about full nutritional requirements of fish know they donāt contain what the fish need. Iād rather use a bait that gives the fish a bit of everything. As Hutch said, carp can only use 38% protein from a food source. Personally the bait im using right now has a protein level of over 40%. Why? Because the 10 or so ingredients all have high protein levels but also other minerals, fats, etc. That benefit the carp. They are easily digestible because of the ingredients. They are extremely palatable to the fish (something often overlooked) They have a high nutritional value. Long term this type of bait will work for longer than your basic mixes. Again, you only have to look at suppliers and ingredients you can purchase to realise itās nothing that canāt be replicated with ease in your kitchen as thereās is no secret yeast, I can buy it online, so can you. In the bait industry there is no major secrets, remember these guys used to share the knowledge back in the day. Itās a fairly close knit network behind the scenes. Suppliers donāt have loyalties either. Believe what you wish buddy, the cell, Manila, krill, key all work, they are still nothing super special and youāll find much better quality at cheaper prices, with a longer track record. Btw lads, defo not CM. He wouldnāt call me out like that! Can we un-ban him now?3 points

You taking your tablets this morning Dez Dont believe Vic stated what his ideal protein level is, I would guess its not above 50% as carp can only utilise around 38% in one passing, its not about protein % any way it about how well the fish can utilise the protein in a given product. No one mentioned halibut pellets Its on the BAG!!!, lab analysis can tell exactly whats in a given product. oh and Vic's lab used to be at Sparsholt College , before calling someone out do your ground work3 points

I Take a minimum of 2kg with me at a time though. And use 10kg+ a month. Hence keeping them frozen is easier. Tbh preserved baits would be easier still but you canāt preserve some fish and meat meals properly for very long at all. I glug them in a high salt content liquid. Gives them a week or so life even through summer.2 points -

Wont say which product this is analysis of but its from a lab test on a big bait companies product 25g citric acid50ml Water15ml Boiled Ham10ml Maple5ml E422 (Glycerol) Close enough for me, quantity is based around he amount of liquid tested. And the guy who tested does lab testing for a living, Cereals are bulking agents there is nothing in there nutritional profile a carp can process they simply do not have the requirements to do so, they are used in baits as they are cheap and although not directly bad for carp they just stinky winky it out because there is no gain in there. Nearly every ingredient in use has come from animal/aquatic feeds industry these industries are heavily regulated by DEFRA and any item used in feeds has to have a detailed spec sheet produced detailing exactly what is in that ingredient and the process that's been used to create it. From these sheets you can tell whether an ingredient is useful for a bait or not. CM is that you š2 points

It was down to the size of the eye of the hook in relation to the hooklink material which was best. Terry Hearn was using a thick hooklink material which would not go through a size 5/6 ESP hook, so he started using the Whipping knot.1 point -

Clearly haven't read Flick of the Tale, Dave actually says he doesn't know much about the make up of bait prefers to let someone else do that side for him as he is usually focused on other parts of his fishing. Chilly has stated that once he's out of the sponsored game he is going to write a book about all the behind the scenes stuff that goes on in the fishing industry. Both are great anglers though1 point -
Silly Rules
B.C. reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
Some tackle companies have most definitely encouraged bad practice, and it is that much! Nash lakes rules, must drop the lead, Korda advocating drop the lead on their lead clip. Magazines are as bad, an article advocating doing it, and the sheep, the 'lack thinking' follow it. It carries on, leadcore rigs that are essentially death traps, leaders that can't eject rig or lead in event of a break-off. I got into a big argument with a magazine over it, and that magazine editor did not want me to publish his reply. It lead to being slagged off in print in the magazine; apparently despite me sending experiment results, I did not get out and fish and was an armchair keyboard warrior, I got a heavy slagging off via Jim Shelley, and was blocked from his FB page (no great loss). Facebook media pics encourages people into fishing, much more now than dad's taking their children, two parent families are a minority... Respect for other anglers is a minority. Jump next door and spod it in, no quietly put baits in so as to cause little disturbance to fish or others around you. Drunken social carp angling is a big current fashion, compared to years ago the social match followed by drink in pub... Yes, there are decent youngsters around, but not many. Yes years ago, my mates and I would fish. If we messed around it was only our fishing we messed up, you didn't annoy anyone else, cos we didn't like the ticking off!1 point -
Back to the original post, ccmoores live system shelf life boilies are quite soft or you have the option of heat treating what ever boilie you want with hot water. Poor on hot lake water an hour or so before to really soften baits up. If your paranoid about losing any attractions mix in a dollop of matching liquid.1 point

well well, NOW who is running down baits that he knows naff all about? solar knock off? your showing your ignorance there buddy, the same team are making cherry's baits as were when they were 'partnered' with solar, the break up was all about the mark up that solar wanted to add and that you can take to the bank, i did quite an in depth look as to the why's and whatfor's for over 12 months before taking a leap of faith. as to the second bit of your statement, and "quoting out of context", i have made precisely two posts (not counting this one) and in neither one did i mention "getting heated", dont start out playing by your own rulebook cos "here be dragons" as they say i know your not CM cos your not in the same league but i would lay bets on you being a reincarnation of 'the carphauler' though.1 point -

Part of the problem in fishing today is the media, or part tackle manufacturers advocating dangerous practices, unsafe fishing and too many modern anglers being sheep, following the setup recommended. Not enough anglers think for themselves. Rules are put in place for 'numpties', to cover the idiot factor, to keep owners or even other anglers happy, (often in the case of match vs carp anglers). If an owner thinks barbless hooks are better for fish then that is what they think, follow the rules. In most cases I think rules are in place for a very good reason. No leaders, no leadcore, no plastics, or minimum 15lb line, there is some reasoning behind them all. What winds me up is anglers who don't think rules apply to them. If you have a genuine gripe with a rule, as long as you can put your point across to the owner or bailiff why then he may consider it and go with your reasoning, ir give you a vaild 'no'.1 point -

my opinion is that Cell and sticky manilla are both absolute cack, i used them both for over a season and my catch rate went right down. but that coming from someone who is only bothered what a bait will do and not what a bait contains so dont jump down my throat eh!! IMO cherrycarp baits are doing the thing at the mo so are the number one bait for me1 point

Silly rules...ā¦.. These are usually applied on waters that let anybody fish, syndicate or not..... Some syndies are no better than day ticket venues for the sort of behaviour that carries on, lack of etiquette ā¦ā¦.. Other syndies will vet you thoroughly before placing you on a waiting list that could take a few seasons before you are offered a ticket, possibly a Winter ticket to start with.... IMO these are worth the wait, usually few silly rules. You don't need many rules if you only let the right sort of anglers on...ā¦ This will sound snobby and a bit elitest, but it's the way it is. By going through this process, you know that any members or future members would have been through the same process. So all members are of a similar mindset and should, in theory, all get on with each other. The management will be making sure that the fish are fished for safely and protected when caught, the surroundings, bank side and wildlife are respected. And just as important , that other members are respected and allowed to fish in peace...ā¦.. One bad apple can rot everything that has, with a lot of time and effort, been created...ā¦.. One bad apple can lead to a lot of stupid rules being enforced on everyone else , long after they get kicked off...1 point

Itās 2pm by now so 2 rods flicked out kettle on and time to top my tan up as it was a lovely day with clear blue skies....... not ideal conditions but after an early rise for a full day in Work to be sat by the river still on pay i wasnāt going to grumble ššš Unfortunately nothing of any size graced my net but a switch to lob worm on one rod seen me catch a steady supply of perch and breamš a small chub on the pellet rod. Fished till dark ended up with 20odd fish and had a good day with a mate. And I still managed to get home and showered in time for MOTD ..... happy days š¬1 point -

I love plastic baits, zig bugs the lot, but our syndicate banned plastics for the reasons I've said. The reasoning is sound so I just have to accept it. My fish safety thing is to use 18 or 20lb line that way you very rarely get snapped or cut off, but owners decide the rules. You can get sweet corn shaped boilies for use as toppers so that s the alternative and I have to admit that's better. However I've just been abroad and used plastic toppers on every rod, they are banging! š1 point

How hard do you think it is to buy a bag of bait, then send it off for chemical analysis? I could do it out my own pocket from home. You really think other bait companies donāt? Iāve seen the chemical analysis of it. And of a few other big name baits. I can personally guarantee you the levels of protein, etc. Are not as high as I want them in a bait. Digestabilty is the key with the cell. Quicker they pass it quicker they need to eat again. Thatās where the easy to get hold of yeast ingredient comes in to play. Funnily enough other companies use that same ingredient and donāt call it special.1 point
-
So when you were listen you should have been told yeasts are mainly digestion aids well the one in Cell is, the key to the yeast type is in the name.1 point
-
Hope they don't read the bag ;), bait companies send each others products for lab testing all the time mate, please don't think they don't If it works for you and your confident in it and happy with the price keep going with it Mufty, if you move between several waters on short sessions it could work out well using that sort of bait.1 point

last year I dropped into a swim with fish showing in front of it, but when I started setting up a guy in the peg opposite shouted over that he was fishing the swim but from the other side. I told him tough and if he saw fish showing in another swim and wanted to fish for them he should have moved if he wanted exclusivity he didn't like that and messaged the lake owner to complain and was promptly told to reel in and fish within the boundaries of his own swim and stop being a twit. I don't mind people fishing outside of their swims, in fact I do it a lot but if someone drops in the swim your cast to then you reel in (I even go and tell them where ive been putting bait) unfortunately like people in everyday life anglers can be turds as well1 point -

I really don't have time for people who get annoyed by people publishing a decent catch, yes it attracts plenty of national attention in the angling world but so what? Its all part and parcel of fishing. Yes there'll be a good chance of more people on that bit of river now but that's just one challenge that makes us decent anglers. If i catch a 50lb carp from the river lea tomorrow, i'll have a simple choice, keep it quiet and only tell a select few or i could let the magazines know and have my "15 minutes of fame" so to speak, i shouldn't be bashed for whatever choice i make because i can guarantee that it'll upset someone whichever choice i make.1 point -
No particle - why? because numpties turn up with un-soaked and boiled particles - chuck them in and the fish are either ill or die, look at Benson at Bluebell, unprepared tigers I believe, swelling in the stomach. Also why some say you can only use the particles in jars - its been done correctly so the owner has peace of mind. No artificial/plastic baits - why? because if snapped of/cut offf or whatever that's a permanently baited rig sitting pretty on the bottom waiting to be picked up time and time again, whereas boilies or other non plastic baits will come off the hair after a couple of days or so, therefore no longer being picked up. No homemade baits - why? well what have they got in? has it been tested for a good period of time? people use all sorts of stinky winky to save money and the products may not even be safe for consumption. ALL good rules those - very sensible1 point
-
That happens on more venues than it doesnt lol Don't get me started š¤£1 point

shame, i was getting into this topic, for what its worth i use both forceps and fingers. fingers to roll out a hook that is nicely in the lips and forceps for that rogue hook that gets taken a little to far back to get a thumb and finger on comfortably. there is a genuine reason for both (imo) and a time for both to come into their own. some people just wont be told tho, fyi my EXCLUSIVE venue does not insist on the use of forceps but waders? yes, for a good reason tho i would say that some of the more ridiculous rules come about thru personal preference of the more influential committee members playing God1 point
-
by ripping the flesh to create a larger hole that the barb will pull out easier from? 100% beaked point barbless hooks slip, as so every other barbless hook. You can disagree but I've witnessed it with my own eyes. Using fingers as Yonny said you 'pop' the hook out. minimal extra damage to the surface tissue. your way of turning the hook with forceps damages the deep tissue AND surface tissue. IMO thats worse than surface tissue damage only. I'd much rather pull a barbed hook out of my finger with the method I unhook the fish I catch than turning the barb inside my flesh and then ripping it out, it would hurt SO much more.1 point
-
That's me, but I'll only use forceps if the hook has been swallowed, not that that's been a carp. Bream & pike! These type of rules, along with waders from another thread, really get my goat! I make it a rule to not fish venues with pointless (& barbless) rules! & I fish some of the countries top venues.1 point
