I'd love to be out doing any fishing, but work, time, family has tied me up for at least the next 6 week

We’ve all had to do it one time or another, hope your Mrs has a speedy recovery….
Just don’t spend to much money on gear you don’t need on your lay off from fishing 😉

I think my carp fishing is over for the foreseeable future, I'm just so bored with it at the moment, I won't be renewing my night card or day ticket. I actually went shore fishing a couple of weeks ago and I'm back in love with my sea fishing, I went with a couple of mates and had a great time, I only caught a few whiting but the thing is you don't know what's on the end of that line, I had to borrow a rod and reel from my mate, because I'd sold all my gear but guess what I'm starting a fresh with new gear and I can't wait. I did keep 1 rod and tomorrow I'm going out to buy a new reel. I will be hanging around on the forum and keeping my eye on things, it's been great being part of this forum and had great advice and learnt a lot in my short time in carp fishing but my first love for fishing has always been sea fishing even though it involves more travelling and cost but I don't really care, it's all about enjoying my fishing and over the last 2 years I've not really been enjoying myself. So I wish everybody tight lines and great fishing and catches and will be keeping an eye on things.

All the best Keith.

I intend to do some sea fishing locally for the cod this winter, in my angling past I’ve sold my gear from sea fishing to freshwater to sea boat fishing and back again.
All the best Keith just be happy with your fishing 👍

@ the mods can’t we have a sub forum for the sea angler’s among us  ?

See if I didn't live smack dab in the centre of England, love sea fishing I like how it all runs on tide times there is no pick and choose it's getting out for those few hours when shoreline fishing.

You dress for the weather, and I have a couple of pop-up fishing tents (someone on here called the smaller red one a tardis!) that get you out of the wind.  We keep some of the catch to eat and release those larger ones that are prime breeders and the undersized (unless they have the bends from being brought up from deep water [30' feet requires careful handling]).  There are size and possession limits.  Carp aren't usually caught through the ice, and I wouldn't target them because of the potential damage in landing and releasing them in freezing weather.  Yellow Perch (smaller than your Red Fin Perch), Walleye (like a Zander), Burbot, and Pike are all species we eat here.  There are more....

Because I'm old I've not had to pay for a fishing license for a few years, but haven't been able to go more than a few times.  I hope to rectify that soon.  I'd especially like to get carp fishing again, but things have changed since the heyday of 20 years ago and some of my favourite venues are closed to me now, or are rammed with people catching them to eat.  It's legal, but I just don't want to be next to it.

A thought for anyone with a bait boat. With the current temperatures below zero, snow on the ground and all my local lakes shut due to being frozen, bring the battery and handset inside the house - mine lives in my shed attached to the garage. Batteries hate being cold, especially for prolonged periods and they can completely discharge in these conditions and it can render them near useless. Bring them inside and fully charge them and they should be OK.

Also going to disconnect the battery from my electric bike and bring it inside and charge it up, I won't be riding it anytime soon until the weather significantly changes.

Some people also keep camera's in their fishing bags and the cold apart from killing the batteries they also may suffer from internal condensation. I keep my fragile stuff like the camera, spare batteries, binocular's and power pack in a separate small bag and always bring it in the house after a trip.

Exactly the same for me, fell out love with carp fishing and with what it had become. I took my spod rod down the coast one day, brought some ready tied rigs and not looked back since, that was 4yrs ago now. Last year was the first time id not carp fished for the entire year and the same this year. And like you it involves lots more driving, I fish the south coast and my nearest beach is an 80min drive  but It doesn't bother me.

Whereabouts do you fish from the beach?

Carp angling is a victim of itself bait companies going out fast few of the good ones too.

Then there is the lake management it becomes that intense you end up feeling like your on a garden pond fishing for pets, understandable when you think how much the stock cost.

I mainly go for something to do I'm tempted to go back to afternoon/evening waggler fishing on differant day tickets.

Here's an old pic. Looks grim.  By February the ice will be 3' thick here.  This is Last Mountain Lake; big, deep, and holds lots of fish

-34 is brutal but get a nice sunny day and -10 and no wind and you can move around to find the fish (drilling lots of holes and actively seeking them is "runnin' and gunnin'") and it's lots of fun.

Wow I just got well humped by a local garage, mate warned me not to go there for parts, dude said he would get me a recon starting motor or try, I was willing to leave the car there for three days, same day as dropping it off rings me up to say it's done got me a brand new starter yeah I bet you did and passed full retail cost onto me he better still have the old one for me to collect or I will screw him that hard in the online reviews they will beg me to take a discount. 260 is full retail then there is a deposit to come off which is mine by law then there is the garage's wholesale account that gets them a discount from the parts supplier that's theres to do as they wish.

400 notes fitted I could of gone to a specialist and got a recon fitted for around 300 max, better still have the starter they took off.

Well at the moment I'm still getting some tackle together, I've bought myself an original penn 525mag and I'm getting a eye replaced on my beach caster. I'm in the North West so I'll be fishing the Blackpool area which is about 40 miles for me and when the weather gets better, I'll be going to North Wales around about 150 miles were i want to fish but the travellingis all worth it. I can't wait mate.😁👍

I've got a mate who owns a bed and breakfast up in Criccieth,  I keep thinking of going up there for a week next year. Seen plenty of reports from Llandudno as well. My next year's target though is to get into some Tope.  I had one this year,  not that I was fishing for them but boy what a fight and what a fish. I need to catch me another one.

Good luck in your venture.

I been watching lots of YouTube videos and I've seen a few on tope fishing from some beaches in North Wales and I wouldn't mind catching some myself. In the summer months I love catching smooth hound and I would imagine a tope is like a smooth hound on steroids.
