i worry though that if i crack off or get cut off, that the weak link will go before the hook link leaves the leader....if thats LC i dont see how(without the leads weight) it can get dumped.... i fear it may make it half way, but then would the two ends twist around and never get free??? scary thought I dont use a leader or leadcore though. But if you are using a chod and you get cut off/crackoff surely you are set up that the hooklink just pulls off over the leader. yep thats my point and why i dont think rotten bottom/weak link leads on heli and leader set ups are safe. It's the only safe way to fish a chod otherwise the lead can never be ejected.. SAFE?? you mean ANGLER safe,as in the angler has less chance of losing the fish while PLAYING it........not FISH safe.....which is a totally different thing, but that is only on a LEADER, the weak link is the better way if main line is fished straight through( if you need to lose the lead) lost rigs are live until the bait goes....if thats a fake/plastic then its live until a fish takes it.......pop ups??? i dont know their breakdown times but i think of them as bad a plastics.

i dont want to knock the guy........but he says " its all about the screaming run" then sits there for nights getting one bleep and then hours later reels in with a fish on the end...now i think guys with less skills would of looked at that and changed tactics.......................if its "all about the screaming run"??? and that whole set up on the grass to suss why the rod got pulled and cut him off?????really ???well im not going to buy his grippers apart from that i really enjoyed the surface fishing at the end i think his 1st dvd is great, i learnt a lot about markering from that

i totally agree with that. i got shown that a year or so back, i switched the stop knot on the bottom bead to just knotting the LC so it can never slip down. as i lost a few close in as the stop knot had slipped down but iv also had 2 snag me from the long drop...one i lost, but the other i managed to pass the rod through the bush(40mins work)....and on the other side there was a carp swimming about with the lead sitting in a fork of a small branch i havent use the rig since losing the last carp, preferring to use other pop up rigs where the lead is above the fish on any water where margin snags are present.

yes bud, that'l be perfect.

Bitter sweet day ... Spot of brain picking please guys

the rig length may be to short??? what bait you using and how are you baiting?? a longer rig should let the hook go further in,hopefully meaning a better hook hold. -
the canals were purposely built for boats...just not pleasure boats.the flow direction is only on a fall , on a summit (locks fall both ends) the direction of flow will depend on what end the water is taken.if 1 boat descends 10 locks it still only uses 1 lock full of water(basically using the same water to fill the lock all the time), if the boats go up hill they take a fresh lock full from the pound above every time. most staircases and flights of locks have pumps to fill the top end back up.....and over the winter the canal traffic is at its lowest,BW close parts for annual works and the fact that the lots of boaters are fair weather boaters means the canal use less water then in the summer when some parts of the canal are more like the m25 car park. iv waited up to 2 hours queuing to get through Foxton locks once the hire boat season has started.

stop by the industrial park at oundle and walk across to the green footbridge.when its clear you can spot 1 or 2 most the time
-
they didnt work the 1st time , seem pointless where my credit card...i need some

a float is a float. pike floats, wine corks...they all do the same thing. the balance between lead and float needs to be accounted for but thats all. but as companies target beginners is makes sense to them to brand 1 product for as many uses its possible for, to sell it to you more than once...youve spotted this before its too late.
-
yeah i use them, makes changing the lead easy as well ...its more the fact its streamlined and collects less weed, the bead stops any sort of bolt effect giving a quicker indication.....not as much as pedant, which is my preferred method.
-
i often stick a big buffer bead between the swivel and inline while fishing in weed.love me running style, but less chance of snagging with the inline unlike the pendant.
-
I just use float stops , much cheaper i cant get my head around why putty is needed on korda sinkers oh yeah..the answers in my question. @shade. agreed, braid is unlikely to have the problem. mono or fluoros on the other hand
-
wouldnt that make the putty kinda pointless? you could just add a bigger shot. my thinking is putty wont add a weak spot, which can happen if shot is crimped on. a float stop or stop knot then wrapped in putty makes more sense to me. as for it staying soft, that could be the putty, so many out there, but not all are very good,iv tried a few and not found one im completely happy with. when using uncoated braid,or striped i find it better to rub the full lenght of hook link with the putty.

fly fishing for carp.....where????
beanz replied to fishermanstory's topic in UK Venues and Where to Fish
bradshaws near sibson. i used to see a guy fly fish for the carp there,i never see him catch one though, it seemed he spent more time walking and looking.....and telling all the modern style carpers we didnt need all our gear . but like leggs said any water, in the summer when theyre up near the surface would be well worth a go. rio at northey park shouldnt be too far from you. -

well, theyre in there. the embankment stretch includes the boat house at the rowing lake, very carpy looking bits there . and non flowing ,it used to be the power station where catching in the hot water out flow was common in deepest winter....before i moved this way though the pic in my avatar is a nene fish,up oundle way. but they are 100% defiantly in all parts. for p'boro area id go above next lock at orton mere and below alwalton.though the amount of bread that goes in the embankment they wont be to far away...get a loaf and feed the ducks/swan at the visitor center near the moorings at ferry meadows when waters not too murky....they aint shy there. they dont give themselves away easily in most parts, and finding a carpy looking margin spot would be my tip , all my river carp have been from no more then a few feet from the bank, and without pre baiting...though it wont hurt your chances if you do, a couple of 40s came out to 2 lads that baited for a few weeks pre season. early spring get to as many dead arms as you can....if you dont see any then.......get down specsavers -

it may just be me. but the 'work' is finding that info out. arm and back ache from hauling isnt work....its ruddy good fun -
does the clip lock in with just a push or a locking pin??? if it pushes in,your need to get the right size.numbers arent always useful if using different brands, as ones size 8 may not fit anothers size 8 clip. better to get clips and swivels from one company.
-
very informative. the 'braid' may be leadcore . if so it can be removed so you can tie mainline direct. dont know what else it could be???unless theyre used clips??

River Carp Fishing (Peterborough Cambs Area)
beanz replied to hookedoncarp's topic in UK Venues and Where to Fish
controling club signs this way ,theyre either 15years out of date , or some angler trying his best to keep others away... wades is the best chance of good info out of all the tackle shops. bluebell is £25/24hr to fish the river oundle ticket is about the same for a year -

LB1 has still got plenty in there. the platform by the roundabout ,on a hot day you can normaly see them around there in the snags. the embankment has done few, that i know of.iv seen few at stanground lock, all same stretch.though every stretch has them all the way up to northampton. some places seem to hold them more than others ,but this may be down to just popular swims.as iv had them from random spots over night ,while traveling on boats.
