  1. Im just glad not everyone tries to jump down my throat for doing things slightly differently or having an opinion lol am i then???. i just think it extra bells and whistles,i may get on your back if i see you say "keep it simple " now tho
  2. unless using two stiff links i cant see the point of the joining ring either, a soft limp braid doesnt need it
  3. whats the extra ring on the shank for/do??? the hinge placement will determine what height the bait sits off the bottom, but i think as close to the hook the better, but not under an inch to the eye,tho trying out the slight difference can pay ,and add to experience.
  4. not sure now ,but years ago the overgrown one along the parkway was free, the model boat lake was the same if the wasnt a boat meet on, couldnt tell you if the are carp in,and whether its worth it or not is up to you and what you want out of your time.
  5. the stock is a complete mystery, even the EA wouldnt know.......as when they did the electro survey they cheated and did it in the backwaters while the carp were spawning and loads were founding dead for weeks after around aston lock, above or below, would be a good starting place. spend some time on the green footbridge and im sure your see something.
  6. if you dont want to look for them first, and they hold around the moorings at the cafe as thats where the birds get feed(not sure you can fish that area tho)you may need to wait longer for the prebait to work. if its where i think it is youve been fishing,it may be busy for the carp to hold in that area. have you had a look at the back water on the thorpe golf course oppersite the boat club,
  7. can you stick a pic up is this the rig that sorta looks like the withypool but has the hook link coming out the middle instead of the end, of tubing (shorter)then has the stiff bit to follow the shape of what would be the long curved tubing??????
  8. no you didnt you just said as slack as possible.........its possible to leave the bail arm open. some one on here new to the sport may not know your reasons for this,as you didnt give one. then after you added"the tow".
  9. what stops it tightening up in the flow
  10. i wouldnt fish slack lines unless fishing up stream, down stream id say is a no no, even on a slow flowing river, where the mean flow is a lot greater then you may think. unless they see lots of pressure i wouldnt worry,if it got a hook and bait the rig will work
  11. i dont think anything else works on the chod except leadcore, you can use a fluoro leader but then you end up weighting down the pop-up...............which then stops the pop-up floating up the line, changing the mechanics of it,for which it is used for in the 1st place. heli/chod set up is the only way i think is safest (note safest not safe) jem....i cant see how a running rig set up is any different to a leadclip...the link is still attached to the leadcore, meaning a break would still leave the fish trailing the leadcore........unlike the heli, where if the bead can pass freely then it should slip off the leader at some point leaving only the hooklink in the fishes mouth. now take snagging up out of the conversation ,the is still the fiction factor of it rubbing on the flanks...but this isnt as bad as what they do to themselves during spawning, not that that matters what they do to them self only what anglers do.
  12. try in wades tackle in fletton/woodston or just wait on the bank.......and go home with the money in your pocket dont think PDAC runs much of it if any nowadays, take a chance on the bank....i do and have never seen a bailiff the only place you mayl get charged is on ferry meadows , thats worth a go around the floating bridge between the sailing lake and the island one at the entrance or the point facing the island
  13. deeping AC run the sewage works side, not sure who runs the sutton bank anymore,it may even be free (all the signs are out of date) deeping dont run the very last cut before the boatyard that runs up to the church, worth a look in here
  14. dont you mean steve ringer does the damage?? chucking doubles in a keep net

    Amnesia?

Thats the one cheers beanz was racking my brain for ages on that name. no worries, its laying on the desk next to me,it was a half a joke,as i wasnt sure if i had in my box or not,as like i said i prefer the ESP

    Amnesia?

i cant remember that or ESP bristle filament which i find to be stiffer
  17. id have to say unflavoured rig foam or fake/glow corn
  18. nigths are included on all waters apart from barkers which now has a separate night ticket for £90
  19. the is a locked gate just of a sleepy country road, then a track down to the river. locked gate for the rotary pit and the river at barnwell, tho you could be seen from the road.
  20. iv seen bivvies set up oppersite the back water just down from lower barnwell, even tho it says fishing stops at the gate.
  21. if i could only have 1 then id have to get down the banks and see whats about, the plantation and lower barnwell lock are in the middle and at the top end of the aston stretch on the south side, oundle runs the other bank just down from the plantation and below aston lock,so ideally both tickets give you access nearly the whole stretch. wdnac includes afew lakes and bit of the great ouse, oundle im not sure what else you get and they arent online. http://www.wdnac.org.uk/page_1475719.html
  22. beanz, your Mum was right. Mine taught me that it's better to remain silent and be thought of as a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt. Ian mums always know best
  23. you mean hedges???? it was,it got caught a few times around there , then it appeared 4 or 5 locks up in thorpe waterville lake it could happen ,just i dont know of a flood like 98 were it could of happened........without the aid of a van untill a few years back i worked and lived on the river.....never since 98 has the nene burst it banks.................every where else has but they sorted all the weirs to be control by radio so it dont happen again
  24. cheers fella, not that iv been away....well a day or so just i remembered my mum saying as a kid "if i aint got any thing good to say dont say any thing" soz to any i offended
