Well I do occasionally… one or two of my swims are lined with ballast, which after a wet winter set to concrete, so no sticks will get in there! I used cygnet sticks in the past, now I’ve got some stainless but I forget which make, but they were around £12 a stick, they’ve lasted ages. I’ve had cheap sticks in the past, but it is a wasted expense. Buy cheap buy twice. If I want to make a pilot hole, I’ll use either a threaded bivvy peg or a storm stick, they seem to work out quite well.

  4. So my O/T is as good as over so it was time for the drive south for a session on the river. Went to a club stretch that did me well last year and it was good to be back bank side. It was a lovely day and the weather behaved itself and the only other people me and matey boy seen was a couple in a canoe. All fish came in a 5 hr feeding spell through the night and ended up with 5 barbel with 2 of them going 9+ and a PB chub at 5,7 as you can imagine I was over the moon. The wildlife and solitude really is good for the soul……… but not the horse fly bites have 😫😫🤣🤣 A couple of mat shots as was a bit unfair asking me auld mate to battle the vegetation for every fish. 😬 Its a 3 hr round journey for me so you can imagine I was glad to get home after a long day/night. Cup of tea, cheese and ham toastie, shower and I was whacked 💤💤💤 All in all a great session with a good mate and got a roast on the go listening to Floyd and celebrating the PB with a few Guiness, thanks for reading 😬😎😫

Problem is that if they wore colours that blended into the road then people in cars may hit them I knew a girl who went skiing in an all white outfit because she didn’t want to stand out …. I said there’s a reason they are bright coloured if you think about it lol horses for courses I say

That’s how I see the goal posts , buzz bars etc , might as well use a pod … I like the rod tip pointing at the bait if possible too for indication purposes. Always try to be practical rather than tarty .

    Layers mash?

It's 'alright', but I don't think it provides as much bits as Vitalin. Can I suggest you try these people, I screenshot the seller. They quoted 3 day delivery, so expected it Monday earliest, made it in 2, and delivered on Saturday

Goalpost sticks and buzzer bars can be more stable in the ground than a pod on it. The pod is obviously going to be better on Nazeing style hardcore banks or on a wooden platform, and with a guy rope, or bungee or even tie wrap to 'chicken wired' platform. The only thing better is a stage stand! Solar buzzer bars until recently had a weakness, the single central thread underneath, but they have now come in with drop-in adaptors. Oops, just conned myself out of more money...

Meaning it as a compliment Steve I would consider you quite Old Skool when it comes to this fishing lark so I have a lot of respect for any suggestions or info you come up with ( despite your choice of football team 😊). Which Sticks do you employ ? I bet you’ve had em for Donkeys …

I use all sorts and if I known what the banks are like, concrete used the pod and dirt or gravel take bits off my trusty fox pod…The front buzz bar and sicks are from the pod, I like the bigger diameter of sticks as they grip in the bank better the back bar is a old Cygnet and the rear stick is a fox black label the original ones which are pretty useless I use a stabiliser with it …

Interlok sticks and buzz bars... reassuringly expensive and VERY good quality... also they fit into my Fox micro pod and stage stands... Job done...👍

started using a pod this year simply for the ease of setting up and putting away, the fox screw point sticks lasted years, my advice get the best screw points you can afford or make a hole borer old screwdriver or something, just don't be a mallet boy guy the other week on a day ticket it was like he was putting a big top up. my pod and all just go in the barrow side bags no bags in bags.

    Dogs and fishing

I made sure every day during the hot weather she was able to be near shade and water so she could cool down. Sky has had moles out of the hole. She waits if a molehill starts moving as it digs out then shakes it. Young moles have been leaving the burrows or tunnels recently, even in daylight, I've seen barn owls in daylight picking them up for their young.

90% of my angling is with sticks ……. Pod only comes out when the ground dictates…….. can’t beat pointing the rod at the bait imo

https://www.foxint.com/home/product/fox-black-label-qr-banksticks?c=pods-and-rod-support When I used to use banksticks, I found these really good as you could really bore into quite hard ground as the T-bar supplied made it easier to dig it in. I've gone over to a pod as it is easier and quicker in the long run.

I'm sorry I am a Solar Stainless person through and through, complete with a rod pod...☺️😂 When I do use single sticks, it is Solar banksticks, some of which are over 20 years old. In fact I nearly always walk my lines out, so I do use a single stick every trip. The P1 stuff is pricey, but I have tried budget stainless, and yuck, it just didn't have the feel, no ground driver point. On occasion I need a pilot hole it is tent peg in the ground, then stir it round. My other suggestion if you want lighter would be the Solar A1 Aluminium sticks or RH Gunsmoke sticks, but I'm sure that the Rod Hutchinson ones are 19.5mm outside diameter, probably the same as your storm sticks.

Same as regards cheap ones. don't bother. As you say, some named brands are eye-watering prices. Cygnet are very reasonably priced. I have bank sticks, buzz bars and distance sticks, no complaints from me.

I can vans and cars ruining the vista and blocking the tracks annoy me and when people are with vehicle they also open and close them all the time and slam the doors to make sure they are shut and worse drive past your bivvy, When in Rome though, i don't see why I should be the only one pushing a barrow 😂
