Back on the res helping with the carp removal πŸ‘it's full at the moment so will be cool to check the depths etc. I believe it goes down to 130ft and some old building out there. But yeah just set everything up only to realise I've left the spomb in the car 🀣🀣

Just doused this on my boilies, splash of brut and I'll be right on the dance floor later.

  3. Latest purchase, 4.5 and 5oz breakaway leads and plain leads. Some 2/0 hooks, 60lb greased weasel, double slim crimps and some Gemini links time to go after a few bass I think

So the rods are put I'm fishing off the bottom of a slope, roughly 15ft in depth 14 wraps out. 20 spombs of tigers/hemp/flaked maize. So the traps are set, rods been out for about 6 hours. The fish have just started showing in front of me but like 5 or so wraps off where my hookbaits are. Now deciding whether to wait it out and hope they move out towards my baits or put a rod on them πŸ€¦β€β™‚οΈanyway its good to be back on the bank🀣

The kneeling over pic is a 16lb from a few years ago, so easy to deal with them like that. The other pic is the 23lb PB. I've written a few articles over the years for Pikelines, the PAC magazine.

I've been chasing rays, had a few up to 7lb. I do use plenty of Sakuma 503's in 3/0 for them, 50lb Grey Weasel as I also use it for rigs with the rays, although I go clear Amnesia for bass, oh yes, and I got some more Lead link imps and Gemini oval clips.

  10. Well I'd go no bigger than 15mm for your pop up. I never went shorter than 1.5 inches and no longer than 3 inches for my chods and yes I'd say the bream are to busy with their heads in the silt/,bottom.

Fair play a 20lb pike is a beast. That's the proper way. Putting them upside down keeps them calm doesn't it.

My biggest is 23lb, and I have had a few 20's. More satisfying than a carp of the same weight. I use a semi barbed treble with a size 6 single up the trace, makes for easy unhooking. I was at a PAC fish-in earlier in the year, one of the other anglers was amazed that I had unhooked a double figure fish within seconds. I look at which side the trace is sticking out, turn the fish upside down on the unhooking mat, kneel over it, left hand through the gill, down to the jaw, lift and unhook with forceps or long nose pliers. Easier to see than explain.

Pike are probably one of my favourite species. The teeth are no problem if you know how to unhook them. I've never had a barbel, and living in Suffolk the chance of finding one is extremely hard. I did spend some time on the Norfolk Wensum after I saw a couple but they have disappeared again, and I don't have the time to chase a tiny shoal up and down a 4mile stretch.

Managed to get hold of a set of original Daiwa GS3000 Whisker's. Convinced myself I'd sell the SS3000's to fund the purchase but obviously that's just not going to happenπŸ˜…

  15. so first time out since september and managed a cheeky day session on local water, great start to the day as not only did my landing net snap on the first fish but also my bite alarm decided it would snap at the bracket so maybe some glue later might work but not convinced. new bite alarm turned up in the shape of this beautiful Robin just sitting on the rod for what seemed like ages despite all of that it was a wonderful feeling being bakside again and had a lovely time with a few very nice carp reckon all under 5lb, will also post up the awesome pic i got of a a carp photobombing my picture of ducks....

  16. Just so people know, I do often do 2 and 1 on single sticks. I do like the stability of a goalpost setup, but if one rod is better placed in another direction. The one on single sticks is over a mix of mashed bread, particles, crushed boilies, worms and molehill soil, while the two are being fished with stringers over boilies.

  17. First night of the season last night. It was a lot colder than I expected. There was ice on my unhooking mat and bivvy this morning. No bites so far. Still a few hours left though....

  19. Same swim, 2 weeks later. I've been putting bait in when I leave, and although I had a walk around didn't see anything to make me want to go anywhere else. Last week I did have 2 tench over the bait, biggest an estimated 5lb

  20. Back down for another 3-4 nights potentially, picked back of the wind based on what I saw last trip and after setting up I saw several shows to my surprise, showing me where to put the rods, fingers crossed might get lucky - think I've dropped right on them unless they're passing through, some chunks to - fingers crossed 🀞

  21. 4 night blank to get me into the swing of things, lots to learn and a new playing field as the water is up 4ft on last year's drought level. Great trip loved it - spring is in the air, the birds are at it, frogs in the margins being hunted by pike and masses of bugs crawling out the lake especially during rain - so many caddis or whatever they were that it freaked me out - all coming under my door by the dozen. Can't wait to get back down asap.

  23. Had a couple of nights on the res. No fish, again. πŸ₯Ί Always nice to get out, even when the bivvy decided it was going to leave without me, a few times in the wind this morning😳
