  4. Same as me mate, a common came out at 37lb over the winter and a mirror at 34lb, there crazy weights for a lake up my neck of the woods. Membership closed on April 4th because of an influx of new applications. I was nervous at first because of the extra competition but it soon disappeared when I realised not everyone’s willing to pack up five times a day and move on to showing fish 😉

  6. Thanks will do, I spent ages looking around but didn't see a lot I just decided this may give me a small chance but I missed the swim I wanted to be in and the 2nd choice and 3rd choice lol found some nice spots though, but I think I might be competing against other anglers this year as well as the fish

  7. I think if you buy the best you can afford then no problem in upgrading when required. I always used to make sure my house was heated my kids were clothed and fed and then if any left I would buy what i needed. if it meant 1 rod a year then so be it I think I got my first matching carp rods in the mid/late 90’s lol. my problem is getting rid of what I have upgraded from especially with 4 grandsons

  8. Tbh I'm way past all this. It's why you don't see me on the Latest Purchase thread. I've been fishing way too long to see any need for short rods or buckets with trays. There really isn't that much tackle that genuinely influences your ability to catch carp imo. You need rods that can reach the area you want to fish, line that can deal with the topography of your chosen water, a very sharp hook, and a half decent bait. The rest is all just "stuff".... none of it really matters. The way I see it the cheapest way to set yourself up is do some research and get the ABSOLUTE BEST gear for your type of angling, regardless of cost, and stick with it for many years. That might sound silly to some but saving up and spending a fortune on the best gear once is cheaper than upgrading poorer gear over and over again for 10 or 15 or 20 years (I learned this the expensive way). You'll find if you have the absolute best gear, you very rarely come across anything that's a genuine upgrade. I'll often go 2 or 3 years without any significant purchases. A few quid here and there on hooks, line and bait. Job done. I'm genuinely not really tempted by all the gear sitting in tackle shops, it's just dross that will empty your bank account.

  10. Yeah weed scares a few off lol, I still get daunted my self when faced with a super weedy water. I’ve learned that a chod with some form of a drop and a that’ll do usually stands a descent chance a bite tho lol.

  11. That's it mate just means you have to work that bit harder, just need to find some new angles and areas to work that get largely ignored, can't wait for the weed to come back to be honest, from someone that had never fished in heavy weed a few years ago, I love it now 😂

  21. Strangely enough I just sold a Nash Siren to one of the guys on my syndicate to make up a set of 3 for his dad's fishing. I found it walking along the River this winter, along with a ND PTFE bobbin. I was sewing the landing net mesh this week to increase the number of holes, (work that out 🤣) I can't however repair the Spomb I broke. The nose release broke on impact and is somewhere in the lake.

    The anglers amnesty thread

I used to be an impulse buyer, "ooooo think I need that", then buy it, couple months later, sell it. Now I just have what I need, but I really do need to replace the Delkim I left at the park lake. (Numpty). Now its just bait n hooks, to make sure I catch them biguns.

  23. What’s done me up is my decision to go from a 2 to a 3 rod set up after a 6 year sabbatical. Extra Rod extra reel extra alarm required All of which have been discontinued. Managed to get an EOS X alarm and An Emcast Evo second hand in like new condition to make the set but as for the my rods ? I couldn’t get another rod like my Berkley’s for love nor money . A similar budget rod would probably suffice but the temptation to upgrade was too much . My CTX’s I have now may be budget rods to many but they are a huge upgrade to me and I don’t intend buying new rods again EVER touch wood 😊 The above have been my main investments , anything else has been just bits & pieces of cosmetic junk that I felt I needed . A decent Fox net should last me for years and I do still need to invest in a good quality light(er) weight shelter which won’t be cheap but hell with it …it’s pretty much a one off period hopefully where I’ll be in a good position , have everything I need and then it’ll just be bait hooks and licences every year . which reminds me … bait 🤔

  24. tbh, it would be nice to treat myself to a few other unnecessary bits and pieces but the rate that my ticket price is increasing and the cost of fuel to get there makes any other purchases prohibitive😬

  25. I’m pretty much with you on this. However, time waits for no man and as I’ve aged I’ve had to invest in a decent Bedchair and Chair; opting for the Solar SP C-Tech versions for both. Not cheap but I’ve been impressed with the quality and my back has thanked me for it. In actual fact, I believe the chair to be a real aid-I can watch the water for hours in comfort!

  27. Big gaffe this... 24 acres, in the teeth of an easterly that is quite cool... ya have to drop in where you can due to rule breakers and stroke pullers... Seen two fish topping... but we're well off them...
