    Dogs and fishing

A few months ago I had to get my jack russell put down because she had a tumor and now I'm starting to think about getting another one. She made an amazing friend but was terrible when it came to fishing and would have to be left at home. Not sure if its because it was in her nature, but she wouldn't settle, she would walk around sniffing everything until she got scent/sight of something and just give chase. Also had selective hearing and wouldn't come back when she was focused on something lol. My question is do different breeds of dogs do better than others and is there any I should look at in particular?

    Carp Mags

I see with some sadness the Carpworld is closing its offices and shutting up shop, and Big Carp is going digital only... Shame as both were good reads... is this indicative of a general shift in magazine based publishing to a digital format ? or a shift in angling habits with the growth of match and predator fishing drawing anglers away from carp.... what are your views...?

  5. Think I'm going to have a dry run at home and see if the lead clears the stops... if it does I'll give it a go on the water

I've had to stop taking mine, she started to bark and people getting close to the bivvy and gets all defensive of our swim ๐Ÿ˜‚ Hopefully as she gets older she calms down and can come again ๐Ÿ˜‚

  8. I would try to get as close as possible, its not much fun trying to cast something too heavy or light for the rod tbh for my 3lb rods I like a 3.5oz lead, i tried a wide pva bag with a 3.5oz lead in the other day was fine for shorter distance but I wouldn't want to launch one too far, If using a 3lb rod I wouldn't want to cast much more than 4oz ideally I might have a look at the little avid spods today they look pretty nifty

  9. You could take the plastic insert out Of the inline and just use the rubber swivel bead that comes with the lead to hold it altogether. the lead will pass over almost any knot then if any breakages happens

  10. If I used a spod rod with the small one I found it tangled.its all about the balance

I couldn't go without the dog, he only has to see me getting the gear ready and he is ready for the off.

    Dogs and fishing

I have a well-trained border collie and could not contemplate fishing without him. I only have to say the word โ€œfishingโ€ and he is at the door wagging his tail. He will sit and stare at my rod tips all day long. He knows I have a bite before I do and lets me know. I was walking around a local lake yesterday and got chatting to an angler. Dog barked like mad, angler looked up, realised he had a bite, and caught a small perch. His reward is always a swim at the end of a session.

Thought I'd give you an update on this, we've done about 5 successful sessions so far, it's been an absolute pleasure. No problems at all really, she will sit and watch the birds on the lake without giving chase or barking at them, she loves meeting other anglers and always gives them a nice greeting when they come into the swim. Once the rods are out we do a lot of training on the bank followed by a some play time (no swimming or being noisy) she's a bit jumpy around catapults and still hasn't seen a fish on the bank yet, so will have to see how it goes lol. All together though, taking her fishing is the best thing I've ever done, it's completely changed her behaviour. She used to have a few bad habits at home (nipping/biting, thought she was boss basically lol) but after a fishing session she is that wiped out she gets in the door, has some food and heads straight for the bed without being a little [censored] lol.

Thought the same mate, not sure how true it is though lol. I'll let you know how it goes. Should be fine but sometimes she seems a bit possessed ๐Ÿ˜‚

I can't wait to get back on the bank, all this nice weather is driving me nuts. If I'm not working I'm with the pooch. Which is fine but being stuck in side all the time isn't. Really is starting to take its toll ๐Ÿ˜‚ I can finally start taking her walks this Wednesday coming. But still have to wait another 3 weeks until she goes back for the lepto 4 jab. I'm not sure if its a good idea to take her fishing until she's had the lepto 4 jab because most waters I know do have their fair share of rats lol. Another month and I'll be doing some fishing again. Killer ๐Ÿ˜‚ Anyway here she is

Not the same without my old girl with me especially on the long sessions , my new water allows dogs witch is great as she's getting on now bless her & want to make the most of the time left with her & fishing is a big part of that . she's been on a load of socials over the years with old members off here never been a problem in fact quite often the first thing mentioned is " are you bringing Jess "

Sky has her moments! Like when a muntjac comes past. She is out after it like a shot. She ran out of the bivvy so fast she managed to bend a storm pole, as the long lead was attached to my bedchair, which also got moved towards the bivvy door. Siberian Huskies are a breed that aren't usually able to be let off the lead at all. They get something into their head and just run, their recall is also terrible. They only follow or behave to a dominant owner, so although people may think I am overly strict with her, she respects that. I have managed to get her to behave when she is off lead in the swim, the camou screen now serves another purpose, although she has managed to go over it, but a very sharp shout made her realise not to go anywhere. Huskies as well as being able to jump a 6feet fence, can dig very quickly. I have seen her dig a hole to her back legs in soft soil in 2minutes. While most people think of huskies being sledge dogs, they are also hunting dogs for the Siberian Chuchki people. The heterochromia, one blue and one brown eye is a husky trait as well. They can have either blue or brown eyes, unlike most breeds who have brown eyes, but they can have one of each. Even on a walk at home I don't let her off the lead unless in a fenced enclosure!
