Eastern euros
Donnygooner and 4 others reacted to muftyboy for a topic
Went to my guesting lake earlier. Saw 3 eastern euros going into my spot. Long story short I found the line they had put out with multiple hooks tied to a bottle under the reeds. The bottle is now full of my urine with the 4 massive hooks positioned perfectly to do some damage when they reach in to pick it up.5 points -

They came back earlier while my mate was there. They didn't hang around long once he started tearing into them. Has them on video now and cut another long story short the 2 of us now have permission to fish the lakes from security as long as we report anyone who looks dodgy and get photographs of them.2 points

Yes ,but I give them a kiss and put them back, not eat them.2 points

You need to use a proper free rolling swivels that work under water, not sure how many actually do tbh i wouldn’t look too deeply into it if you have enough supple section it should spin and face the right way I actually have sucked some rigs up myself and they do work2 points

Angling pressure, on yourself, not the fish

Exactly mate. I first read that phrase in Terry Hearns book many years ago. Me and a mate adopted it. It sounds best when you have the biggun in the net..... "see, it only takes one bite"!!!😃2 points -

You are right I think got to keep ploughing on , I keep getting the Leon Bartropp phrase it only takes one bite coming into my head, the day ticket can wait till winter again, this is the golden time when they could be stocking up on boilies and more precisely my boilies, good luck yonny and remember it only takes one bite2 points -

It's up to you mate. Do what you enjoy. I am also going through a lean spell on a hard water but I know that all I have to do is put a hookbait in front a feeding fish (trickier than it sounds sometimes) and I will catch. If I keep going it will happen. When it does I'll be buzzing. I've struggled before and I'll struggle again. It's just part of fishing for special fish. Earlier in the year I went on a social to a day ticket lake. I caught a bunch. Did I get the buzz? Of course not lol. It was fun but I was bored after the 2nd or third fish and was thinking about my hard water.2 points -

They dont show you the blanks on social media. Dont go thinking the top boys dont blank because they do. Fish for yourself buddy. It's not a competition. Focus on your own fishing and enjoy it. Your time will come🐋2 points -

If it's easy then no doubt it is happening. Happens down my club lakes all the time and they are baliffed and fished overnight.1 point -

I couldn't find the line last Night but was sure it was there. So at the end of the session i dragged the lead and rig through the margin and hooked onto it. The thing to look for is some sort of hand reel or a bottle buried under the reeds.1 point -

I agree, they are a very primitive design really. I'm sure they work to a degree but nowhere near as well as we think they do.1 point -

No I get that when I think back though I wasn't sure it was dead natural that's all, that's why I thought it would be good to have an idea what I was looking for1 point -
if you really have to fish this water I'd target the shallower parts as they warm up the quickest on a cold but sunny day.... otherwise go with Yonny's advice👍1 point

Yes for exactly that job, I was looking at them in the tank last night and couldn't help feeling the fish has to approach it right to get a take where the swivel may just help turn it faster I think and may help with the hooking1 point -

Hi mate. It means the lead must be able to come off in the event of a snag (so drop off lead clip systems are perfect). By the way..... FTM🔴⚪🔴⚪💪1 point -

no fix lead rule mean a system were the lead can be dumped under pressure such as a lead clip. I use the hybrid clip but its down to personal preference.1 point -

I do think it may affect your confidence in some way subconciously though, i am still enjoying the challenge tbh and actually the main pressure I have is that It is a tough challenge I have set myself, but I've learnt tough lessons before and I think I can do it again, but looking at some lakes these days where people are having hits makes me think would I enjoy fishing a lake with a higher stock more as I would probably catch more ,I guess the end result will tell me whether it was worth it 🤔 I have a Thursday night planned for this week and I can't decide on st Ives or having a break and fishing a day ticket for a night to try and break that particular duck1 point -
Big hooks Vs small hooks

Have a go with 6s buddy. Good for smaller fish too mate and you tend not to lose them which is always a risk with zigs👍1 point -
Winter tactics
Its-grim-up-north reacted to yonny for a topic
Deep waters tend to shut up shop in winter, they hold those cold temps and even the best conditions cant warm them up. Shallower waters have the chance to respond to higher winter temps. Either way, I've spent many a winter on low stock pits. One fish a year is a mega result. Most years it's no fish. If you have the balls then go for it but nowadays I tend to go for higher stocked waters in winter. Any fish is a result when the temps drop imo. Good luck bud👍👍1 point -

No harm in giving it a go buddy but I think you're bamboozling yourself. Imo your multi would do the job perfectly well and you can't get much easier than that👍 Rigs, within reason, aint that important imo. It's putting them in front of feeding fish that is the make-or-break factor.1 point
