One is an impregnated rod t'other isn't, the darker rod is how a sharpe should look with the screw down reel fitting, I had the pale rods's reel fitting removed as it had seized up.

In not too precious about matching everything, that ship sailed long ago... life's too short to worry about that sort of thing any more...👍😉

Thanks for the explanation about the rods , Blue .

Actually I was really bad the other day as I had a carbon rod ( Century Armalite mk.3 ) as my right hand rod ,and a fibreglass rod ( Jack Hilton Carp ) as my left hand rod ; I just live life on the edge .

Blue ! , how on earth do you expect to catch when your rods aren't identical ? .

To me it looks like one rod is a darker cane than the other , and the reel fittings are different .

🙄

The darker cane on the sharpe is achieved by soaking the blank in a phenol based resin and then autoclaved, (heat and vacuum or high pressure) to force the resin into the cane fibres... it makes for a tougher rod... sadly as phenol is now banned you don't see many impregnated rods... A guy called Barry Grantham bought the process and found a way round the ban on phenols but I think the venture was short lived...

Trad day today... well nearly every days a trad day now... just lost one off a big drop back, probably a Bream... bit of a stuttery movement on the bobbin, but I'm out and freezing in a north easterly..., got the wind off my back so its not too bad, no carp out this morning but plenty of Bream... giving the new banksticks, buzzbars and bobbins a run out... Rods are Sharpes 9'3" and the reels are Leszek Delag fettled Mordex Merlin centerpins...

Well mate it goes like this…. We turn up to our pre booked swim that the bailiff had placed a stake with a laminated note saying the swim had been booked for the 48hrs, this was way in advance I believe 4 days, and theirs two guys fishing in there 🙄 looked for the sign and couldn’t find it. we drove to the office had a word with Chris the fishery manager and he said he made the sign and a bailiff said he seen it there on the Wednesday.

Chris apologised and sorted a swim out on the Tar Farm set of lakes and said we just had to pay for the one ticket….. And we blanked 😏

Haven’t heard anything today from Linnar so il send a email off tomorrow to see if they got to the bottom of it, we were thinking next time we go il phone the head bailiff the day before to make sure there’s a sign up.

Some might think we got to fish and for half price so it wasn’t to bad …but a 30llb plus fish is on my mates bucket list and oxlease is the best bet to get it. The organising he’s got to do to get away for the 48hrs you wouldn’t believe and I won’t go into his personal problems here.

Oh I'd be so angry, I'd have gone home absolutely raging after giving them what for - so bad!!!

So those guys just moved the sign and got away with it. 🤬

Don’t know how long the guys had been fishing in the swim before we got there. They could be innocent or if there not they could just say there was no sign. Maybe some (censored) got peed off not finding a swim and took it out on the sign.

When we book again il phone up the day before and on the day to make sure all is good.

Not the pic i wanted to post went fishing today and managed to snap the tip on one of my Wychwood 9ft rods, it was in the velcro rod retainer on front of shelter and i went to rebait, hook caught my fleece as i turned and snapped tip, clutch on reel was set really light, i am now sort of out of action as i have emailed wychwood to see if they can provide a new tip section

That’s a bit of bad luck

Easy fix if they don’t, grip the broken piece with grips heat below the eye then slide the eye away. Try it for size if it fits bit of super glue job done if it don’t a light sanding to it till it fits then glue.
Iv done the same fix to a quiver tip and a sea rod 👍

Thought i should post the pic of the rods prior to breaking the tip of one, BTW had a repky from Wychwood asking me to take broken rod to local dealer for them to send it back and let them see if it was poor workmanship that caused it but i have repaired it so not going back, i have instead ordered a pair of Rod Hutchinson 10ft rods and will sell on the 9ft Wychwoods

I hope you’ll be happy with your choice 👍

I do like 10ft length rods Iv got a set of ESP Quick draw rods in 3.5 lb which in hindsight were to powerful in 10ft as someone on here rightly mentioned could have been Kev ? The 3lb would have been perfect.  😏

Now ESP are bringing out a 4k version all in 10ft so il be selling off the other rods and getting a set in 3lb ….after a good waggle in the shop

Lovely morning after a wet night.

I call the trees opposite Wile E Coyote and Scotty Dog.

I've had a few fish out of this swim in the past, but it is the area where I've seen the big uncaught common.
