    rigs

I did try the IQ material last year and to be fair caught on it when braid was struggling for some reason on one of the waters I was fishing... but if you use it for the hair material as well I found it kinked after a fish or two and gave me poor presentation so I used it down to hook then had a braid hair was quite an effective little rig .
  2. snap still have a spool, 7lb, ....still has its uses too eh mate....got 9lb and 11lb.....still got some bulk spools of 11lb sylcast sorrel mainline that I keep telling myself to spool up with when you get your new reels you can mate... did the insurance company specify a company to buy all your replacement kit from? I hear that's happening more and more now .
  3. another vote for the ace pop up pegs coupled with the esp shank stops really simple.... like me

    new rigs

Thanks Nick always like the reasoning behind rig evolution.. as a matter of interest where were you hooking them.. bottom lip ? or a mixture of hook holds ?
  5. There are a couple of advantages... One as you state doesn't tangle on the cast also gives you good presentation on the bottom as your hook length will stay straighter on landing...also very good abrasion properties compared to just braid which is the reason I use it on the river I fish over here mate... A normal uncoated braid frays quite quickly where I fish on rocks etc but A coated one will easily last me a session... like you say strip the coating back to tie your hook on and leave at least an inch or 2 striped above the hook for more natural movement. hope this helps a little mate Phil

    new rigs

Hi Nick can you run me through the pluses of this set up and reasoning behind it in more detail ? Thanks Phil
  7. Looking at the video a heavy bottom bait would of been allot better ... And I can see exactly your point John makes sense to me
  8. Good thread this lads given me some food for thought on improving my rigs. The few times I have been carp fishing this year has seen me strike into nothing after one toners a couple of times which always gets you thinking and wondering, but then the next cast one toner and fish on...It's just trying to work out what might of happened different between the two takes
  9. I have heard that to but others have said korda hooks are ok, I will be trying without silicone when im next on the bank and if that doesnt work i will be looking at new hooks, Fox and nash hooks are the 2 alot of people have recommended Gardner mugga's are worth a look to mate
  10. How has it caught 100's of carp if they haven't seen it?! Lol Being serious though Kev. Do you really think that it has a rate as high as 99% of carp not being able to eject or is it tongue in cheek? If so, what makes the results so high? I honestly don't think that there is a rig out there that can have that sort of ratio between getting the bait picked up and hooking a fish. Agree with you Nige And if there was such a rig you would be better off than danny f
  11. there's Quite a few on here that might say it's your hook...I did try korda hooks because I do use some of there other products but wasn't impressed with the hooks... I've been using gardner mugga hooks for years and have confidence in them might be worth looking at . Phil
  12. Hi All... was just wondering what knots you prefer and use for different jobs? Phil
  13. You could use two rubber hook stops with your bore ring between them held in place
  14. Can I just add most lead clips work with size 8 swivels not ten. Phil
  15. As Nick said above should be written on the packet.... And as for your other question not used them myself but I think there used for locking your swivel in place.
  16. Phil im using the esp curve shank and i am thinking of moving over the the mugga's, they look like they have a slightly wider gape, whats your opinion The mugga are a wider gape than the esp hooks I've used Gary and I really like the curve to the mugga the line comes off the eye at a very nice angle in my opinion, and they sharpen nicely when needed.
  17. Gardner covert mugga and esp
  18. same principal having the buoyant bait on the inside rather than the out . so yeah it counts nice one
  19. I would worry about the line rubbing on the inside of the lead and the top and bottom lip of the lead its always a bit rough ware the coating stops. Although I'm sure you make sure it's all smoothed off Gary others might not .
  20. Hi all has anyone had good results with this ? I've not had chance to try it on a hard water yet but have had some good results on the local runs water. your thoughts please
  21. GT 80 has had a good following since its introduction in 2003.Sorry you didn't like it because we found it bullet proof. Its not in many shops at the moment because we're replacing it with GT80+ which has slightly better knot strength and abrasion resistance. Original GR60 should be available for another 2 years possibly longer if demand continues. Pro-Carp was introduced this year in an effort to provide a good reliable line for less than ten quid--check the knot strength against any .35 line, and the abrasion resistance is right up there. Hope this helps. Richard. Good to hear GR60 will be around for a few more years , and even better to hear from the manufacturers them selves. very impressed
  22. I must admit that I avoided GR60, for its breaking strain it was a very thick line (15lb was 0.40mm I think from memory), and compared to some other lines was expensive. With the price of the Pro-Carp I'm a lot happier putting my money that way now IT is a little thicker in diameter but were only talking fractions of a mm its how it performs that matters to me and it's never let me down and there's a few people I know that swear buy it including uk carp champions . But everyone has there favourite I guess thanks for your input though nick and will be keeping an eye on your bank side test of your new line. as i will need to change at some point.
  23. I've heard that myself zammo, got a couple of GR60 bulk spools from my mates shop as he said it would be his last delivery but it wont last for ever , it's a shame is a very good line imo
  24. I have been using insight GR60 line for years but i think they are fazing it out with some new versions taking its place , so will be interested in your findings Nick . Good work
