  1. the cog is definitely and old idea
  2. Interesting beanz, the lead would dump just after the take with the components used in this pic. So not sure how much battering would be involved.
  3. Yonny , do you think that lead would land the right way up every time just because of the buoyant pop up ? I'm not so sure .
  4. I thought the same yonny. ... could use a shorter choddy though. I suppose can't really make a definitive comment on it unless I try it ...may do one day just out of interest, who knows
  5. Don't give em an inch ! What do you make of this setup then guys ? Not used it myself, but I have used the avid leads & drop off stems which are utilised in this setup & the lead dumps everytime so bare that in mind when you make your comments.
  6. You know yourself stevo as you have fished with them too, a lot of the guys I know who do commit to Zigs expect action early morning if they've been out all night
  7. I still have never fully committed to Zigs when fishing ie all three rods at different depths changing depth until you find the column there in . Obviously with such a shallow lake you can do this pretty quickly. Also changes in colour can make the difference. But to me committing to the tactic is key . And something I have to try myself at some point. Best of luck & look forward to your report back .
  8. If your dog does as it's told then it shouldn't be a problem or hamper your fishing. It really does depend on each individual dog & owner never had a problem with my dog, wish there were more venues that allowed dogs tbh , but I can see why there isn't. It only takes an idiot with no control of there dog to cause problems for other anglers. My Girl just chills out .
  9. If your not looking to cast over 120/ 130 yards ( no leader ) pro gold in 15lb is definitely worth a look . been trying it on one rod & have now stuck it on all three . The abrasion resistance is fantastic no stripping off line after repeatedly pulling through weed, Listening to you talking about your new lake I reckon it's about the perfect diameter too .
  10. Had one for a while but not used it yet, as the large spomb is doing the job perfectly well . Heard you need to check the pin has its ends rounded off as there was a problem with them moving & bending under the forces. The only person I have seen using one was filling a spomb with it
  11. Because that's what Adam asked about & fancies trying , I just pointed out how it could be done. Perhaps the lake Adam fishes you suffer a lot of cut offs this would certainly help with that, without the need for a leader which is what he is trying to achieve.
  12. These are what you need if your looking at bead on tubing, just as a top bead , as the lead will of already gone in a break this will leave one end of the tubing completely bead free for the rig to pass over . The other bead will also slide with little pressure.
  13. It's just a matter of finding the right size beads for the tubing so it can slide off .
  14. Completely agree fella , I've said before you need the lead on these set ups to make sure the fish is only left with a short rig to deal with.
  15. Yes mate , quality stainless one that . Also saved a blank
  16. Should of took a picture of a rig Androooo dragged in up Horseshoe the other week. Was a length of braid probably 6-8 ft long to an unleaded leader of around a metre ,inline lead that was never going to drop off , all connected to mono mainline! Horseshoe has a no leader rule this guy was using two !!
  17. I've only switched from using running rigs because of the weedy nature of my main target lake this year . Otherwise I would still be using them tbh .
  18. From my experience you can fish slack lines with running rigs as I have done & caught . If you are going to fish slack then definitely don't use semi fixed leads as your relying on the fish moving away from you for indication. At least with running leads even if the fish comes towards you on slack lines because the lead is left behind, when it eventually takes that slack up back to where the lead is your get indication when the lead moves . Semi slack would be my setup .
  19. killed a pigeon years ago as it flew straight into my line & hung it self .
  20. I always fish sat up stream of my intended area on fast flowing rivers, the line goes down stream and curves back up towards the lead & rig creating the bow I want . Rods up high.
  21. The faster the current the better running rigs perform, I fish a bow in these circumstances as I don't like lots of tension on the line as I think the fish can sense it & spook off the spot .
  22. You can fish running leads that drop off so that would be my choice in the situation above if you were stuck on fishing running leads . Think they would work well in this situation you describe better than if casting into weedy area's where I wouldn't be convinced that the lead would eject, bringing the fish / lead into weed it should drop off on impact with the weed . Also I've used running leads on some of the countries fastest rivers with no issues as you can't fish them slack obviously because of the current.
  23. Yes mate a rubber bead of some sort does the trick
  24. I think the running set has the advantage of being able to be picked up from any direction. ... where the semi fixed lead can give it self away & be spat out if the fish is moving away from the lead & the hook length is straight.
  25. I like the running lead setup on some waters , but wouldn't dream of using it up Horseshoe where it can be very weedy . The last thing you need is the lead staying in one place as the fish moves off getting all weeded up & creating a second pivot point . I've caught some good fish on running leads so the hooking potential is very good but I personally don't use light leads in conjunction with it 2 3/4 oz minimum as you want the lead to stay still on the pick up . Will this be when your river fishing? Much of a current?
