I've got the older version with just the light rather than the underlit wheel, but shouldn't think there's much difference on power usage. I have just changed the batteries in mine after 4 years ! & they were still working just thought I bettter change them, glad I did as there was a little corrosion starting from the old battery.
Completely agree about the fox stuff Yonny.... especially fishing in weed the coating doesn't last at all starts crinkling up. Haven't tried this esp loaded stuff might have to have a look at it .
in which case your also criticising the multi rig .Those rigs you posted the picture of Phil ,wouldn't last 5 mins in some of the crey infested lakes i fish.
It's all horses for courses mate .
If your going to replace it go stainless steel, much kinder on the line than the rubbish plastic ones daiwa fit .
Keep meaning to get mine changed on my BR's.
A mate had his changed by custom reels you can find them on fb did a pukka job for him .
If it's something you can afford chest waders should be part of your kit .... can make the difference between landing a fish or not/ having to pull for a break or not / & just landing fish in deeper water on some lakes ie good fish care . Obviously care must be taken when wading.
Daiwa infinity BR
15 lb suffix Synergy no leader 160 yards
70 acres
3.25 torrix 12ft
Or my free spirit 13 ft hi s 220's when I need to hit over 130 yards .
It's about giving them very little to home in on & prevent them staying on your spot the entire time, if you feed boilies they won't leave you alone that's for sure .
Horseshoe can be a nightmare for them .
The two fish I had the other day were both bottom baits yonny .... so agree that once its on the deck it will be fishing fine , just like to protect the hook point on the cast .
Normally with a stick in my case .
it's not just the hook landing on them either.... the length for your rig too .I was taking leaves down with the rig the other day as the the lead drops & the rig sinks behind it any leaves caught on the rig will travel along towards your hook as the lead sinks .
Not at all mate ... could just see us going round in circles.
It something I like to do on certain lakes that are covered in leaves . & your telling me i'm worried about something that will never happen, even though it did the last time I was out
Not over thinking at all Phil as it can happen & does.
I fish really weedy lakes & will happily cast out a bare rig apart from this time of year .
If your lake is covered in leaves there's good chance your hook one. I pulled in a rig the other day with a leaf on the hook caught it on the way in .... better than on the way out .
This time of year I like to protect the hook point , the lake I was fishing the other day was covered in leaves & hooking one as the rig hit the water was a possibility plus the leaves held mid water .
These are the ones I use spr ..... word of warning the cord that comes with them isn't 12ft for ,some unknown reason it's between 12- 13ft , obviously not to important unless you need to know exact yardage , but a strange one .
I've been using these Gardner clips straight on the hook for a pop up rig I've been testing & they haven't let me down
All be it the ones i use have a bigger ring on them .
couple of reasons why I wouldn't do what you mention tbh Nick .Casting out to another part of the lake ? this will more than likely mean getting weeded up & wasting time clearing it all off ,
Aiming at the marker float ? .... once you get over a certain distance you may think you have hit the marker float but the reality could be your short .
& sticks don't take long at all once you get your own technique sorted & I don't suffer from line twist as the bail arm is off. Still seems more faffing about to get it right especially after a fish & getting back on that spot quickly is vital as it could mean another take .
I do some of the things you mention in your last paragraph but only to find the spot for the first time then it's clipped up & wraps counted . .
Just seems like a faff to me especially if you've had a fish so didn't clip back up before you reeled in .
Having to reel in your other rods just to walk out one of them out, so not to leave them unattended could cost you fish .
Sticks for me
I actually think if your a user of ultra thin dineama braid for long distance spombing, the groves in these sticks might appeal to you .As it can really miss behave on sticks & at 45£ a spool you would probably soon get your money back in saved braid.
The problem with putting the line in the clip before you reel in , is that's not actually where you Want to hit the clip that's where you want the lead to end up . So you have to allow for this before you clip back up for the retrieve, not to much a problem with shallow water but deeper & it becomes more guess work . If you were to just keep clipping up after every cast your will end up quite a bit short of your spot in no time .
