  1. Daiwa crosscast have quite a nice fish playing action they do them in a 12ft 3lb tc I believe, I use 3.25lb and I can't remember losing many since I've switched to them. They are a nice  slim blank. And feel quality for the money, mine are a special edition total fishing tackle version that you cannot get now but the crosscast traditional seems to have a similar spec and Cork handles which look pretty nice 👍

My mate got the NGT Korda lookalike tackle box and it’s stood the test of time

I had one of those but couldn't get enough stuff in it was pretty good though, I now have a korda tackle box much better size for all the toot I think I need to take bit in reality seldom use whilst fishing 😂

They also do a big one which I bought but that wasn't good.

Brew kit bag is a useful lil bag I keep my camera and lights and powerbank type stuff in it.

I had my rod tip high last time i was fishing up to the pads, seemed to work really well tbh, I've tried various rod positions over the years but for this situation that is the best set up I've found, the fish never found the pads at all and it's easier to grab the rod so  I could just walk straight back, the battle was fairly straightforward after that. This was on the end

Funny thing is on my 2.75lb NG's and SP's I was casting a 3oz lead and 30bait stringers up to around 100metres with no problem.

Now admittedly Century aren't a cheap or budget brand rod maker as the rods cost me £600 and £750 respectively for the 3, but at no point did I ever need 'more grunt'.

I have used my barbel specialist rods for roach on Alton Water, landing fish to over 2lb on groundbait feeders, size 14/16 hooks. They have also landed 20lb carp on freelined dog biscuits and method feeders,12lb bream, 5lb chub and the occasional rogue pike (plural) that took a liking to slugs and a roach that I'd hooked on sweetcorn.

You are right they aren't a budget rod. Nearly £600 each now,

  5. I use 12ft 3.25lb and don't find them too stiff, I don't feel like new rods are as broomsticky as they used to be, if you are wanting to continue using solid bags I wouldn't want to go under 3lb tc

I have daiwa crosscasts I think they are a nice all rounder,

I also think before you go chucking loads of money at rods, just try a different rig material. You may find your rods aren't an issue.

I won't be voting Green, they have no idea on actual environmental issues, and are against angling and other outdoor pursuits.

Nor will I be voting Lib Dem, Labour or Conservative. Sadly the political system is not suitable for purpose.

Until we can get rid of political parties we are screwed. We almost need a benign dictatorship, or a King Alfred the Great circle of elders representing everyone.

You must be thinking about voting Reform party then lol.

Believe me I am disgusted and have signed gawd knows how many petitions, barracked my MP, who is a virtue signaller,  against his vote to continue to allow sewage to be pumped into waterways, (then made a newspaper article to clean up the local river, ignoring why its in such a state).

If only the nation hadn't lost its mind and allowed Borismania to sweep through with a long trail of destruction, I hope you will be voting green next time as they are the only ones serious about stopping it.

As @framey says, change one thing at a time.

It does, it's called littering, fly tipping, pollution...

    Strictly speaking it is illegal!

Personal thought, I do not like leadclips, nor dropping leads, I still use running leads or inline leads and the only leadclips I own are those I have found and retrieved, attached to other people's break-offs, most still had lead attached. I've found 2, 2.5oz, 4 and 5oz leads, but strangely none of the sizes I prefer, 3 or 3.5oz.

In weedy waters, an inline distance lead will frequently not catch up on the weed, whereas even an empty leadclip does.

Wow not at all contrary, imagine if you were more outraged at water companies that dump Actual sewage in our waterways.

    It's been a weird night 🙄🙄

12 runs upto now, 3 fish landed, 15lb 10oz being biggest....

But the others runs a feel are trailors, as when hit/struck into the runs, some even 1 toners, literally nothing there.....

Blimey mate well done on the captures, something strange seems to be going on there.

    Thanks , Elmo .

The jprecision hook is one I can look at as I'm only allowed to use barbless hooks - crimping / filing not allowed .

    😃

It's sounds like you are fishing in dictatorship not a fishery.

If you are using barbless you won't need to file down the barb to remove the old hook from the kicker because the barb isn't getting in the way of the kicker sliding off.

I'm going to reassess my whole end tackle arrangement from mainline right the way through to the boilie stop (including PVA bag size and contents).  I'm also going to ditch the current waters that I'm fishing and find pastures new, and do a little bit of experimentation work.  Should keep me busy for a few years :)

How will you know what part was the problem if you ditch everything at once?

Unfortunately a think that I must agree with you.  Can you recommend a soft coated braid ???

On a more sinister note, I fear that I am not the only carp angler in the UK using this method or indeed similar methods.  Based on my assumption, it must therefore be that lots of other carp anglers are suffering the same issue, but just do not think it's something to be addressed.  This could partly explain why we are seeing so many carp nowadays with damaged mouths.

Anyway, I will lighten my lead and use a different hooklink on my next trip out.  I will also experiment with dropping the lead for a short while and see if this helps.

The esp tungsten soft is a good coated braid there are plenty out there though,

I think it is something that is possibly overlooked tbh, I did a quick search and some lakes have banned uncoated braid, perhaps more should,

    Thanks very much , Kev.

At the moment I have one rod with a Ronnie , and the other with a multi rig so I can try different hook patterns ; the pattern I'm trying at the moment is a ESP Grip Rigger which has an out turned eye .

The krank type hooks are good with a Ronnie Rig, I've recently developed a love of these with the Ronnie, these are now pretty much all I use now, great hook holds so far.

    https://www.jprecisionhooks.co.uk/products/advanced-lgs

I also use avid D rig kickers as my go to Ronnie kicker, I like having the d rig to add a little more seperation between hook and bait (bit fiddly) and when I need to change hooks I now always file down the barb of the old hook to aid removing this 👍
