Personally I’d use it neat to soak in to them but I don’t do washed out type baits. I use enough for the boilies to soak in, but stay firm. Basically they just get heavier. This way you can still stick them out.

elmo was right on ratios. Use the leftover water, frozen for next time or to add to pellet/spod mixes. I see so many anglers just tip it away. Crazy.

I think I would use it neat if I did slightly longer sessions but because mainly do overnighters, I've found thinning it seems to be an advantage as the fish seem to eat it quicker as they are pre washed out.

    Finding this post super interesting!

I have recently started glugging pellets with fish sauce, got a bit bucket that i have been adding fish sauce to every few days for probably near a month now so they are about ready.

What i do want some advice on if possible is Squid hydro liquid, I have just brought some from Bacarel, for some reason i expected it to be thick which it isnt, so im just wondering how to use this as a boilie soak, more the ratios. The plan is (or usually is) to pre soak the boilies in water before i go, usually in salt, if im adding the squid hydro should i just be adding it to the water? is a cap full enough or should i be adding a fair bit? Any advice welcome! THANKS all.

I usually just chuck some in with the water tbh, I quite like the liquid to be thinner as it soaks through the bait more. I would use more than a capful, maybe like 25% hydro 25% squid brand and 50% water something like that anyway. Might be less that seems OK , you can add whatever you like though

Just ordered a fireproof charging bag (Amazon) for my fishing batteries, big enough to store them in too.   Too many horror stories, should have bought one long ago.

I once left a vape on charge and it started burning, luckily it wasn't overnight and I caught it fairly quick but could've burnt the house down.

Don’t care what anyone says, There is no fool proof lead set up

the best you can hope for is to minimise any problems if and when it happens

underwater, anything can happen once the line has snapped off.

I haven't said it's fool proof or perfect or anything but I think it is a little safer than most other things we chuck out into the water, and I think it's a good product.

The safest set-up is the one that gets the fish in the net without problems.

    I agree,

I probably should just stop making suggestions.

Well as purchases go they don't come much more exciting than a new home and a return to my beloved Nene Valley. Carpy in more ways than one; I'll be 3 miles way from the Valley itself and there's also koi to 30lb+ swimming around in the back garden! Offer was accepted on Friday so now I just pray that nothing goes wrong and we're not waiting too long.

Cracking news mate, are you going to ban the magic twig on your water?

    Hi guys.

I've just joined a new club with a water I'm very interested in, but they have a rule for that water that says 'no boilies & no nuts'. I'm not allowed to take tins to the water, so can use sweetcorn, but I'm looking for alternatives that will allow me to focus on the carp.

The lake is an old brick works and is very deep (30m/100ft) with an old building and machinery at the bottom, so I'm going to have to try and keep to the margins. It's going to be an interesting water to explore.

I would use bigger particles and pellets probably, maize, maples and sweetcorn,

From the crack-off with the swan, it went at the hooklink knot, as it does in the majority of cases. It is normally only if the line gets fragged by snags or detritus does it go anywhere else. The run ring can travel up the line and off.

I think every trailer I have found, has been caught up with a semi-fixed lead, usually on a lead clip...

I have removed and freed a couple from snags in the past!

Yet never found one with a running lead on.

A trailer with a running lead could still leave a fish attached to a long trailer, yes it might be minus the lead but the rig is directly tied to the mainline via a swivel, with the hit n run lead clip if you got the same trailer, the rig would come loose as the swivel is free of the mainline, and therefore you will only ever leave the rig attached once the line parts as the fish can move up the mainline and be free of the trailer. It is also a running rig but neater and IMO safer.

I can't remember where I first bought them, but I had to replace my dwindling stock of run rings and clips.

    https://www.korum.co.uk/en/products/rig-accessories/kp-00170

I've lost a couple or rigs recently, blooming swans, one swam through the line and tangled up, the other picked up the hookbait, both resulted in losing the lot. On the tangled up loss, it was just after the cast, so the line was still in the clip. The swan swam towards the splash of the PVA bag. I checked the line, and it had gone at the knot.

As for the running leads, and slack lines, the two carp this week were absolute screamers. The second carp during the fight I could see the lead on the run ring, and as the fish kicked right, I could see the lead eject off the clip, not losing the run ring, just the standard type clip like the picture. I'm not sure but it may be because I cut the swivel off the leads, and the wire loop can slip between the prong.

With a running rig you are still going to leave a trailer attached in the event of a crack off. That's why I am now using the pb ones same benefit of a running rig, but as the fish swims off the rig with swivel will travel up the trailing line and free itself leaving only the rig in its mouth,

I did rig trials in Dec taking my stiff hinge pop-up rig and adapting (longer/straighter) for bottom baits and wafters.  I got 3 takes on it, all drop backs which indicated to me that they were the bigger fish (proper Kingy fish always do this) but all shook the rig before I connected.

Whilst this was disappointing I feel that the rig actually worked OK hooking the fish in the first place, they always come towards you and shake it free anyway (barbless) so really the problem was the semi fixed lead.  I clocked this and changed over to running set-ups but no more takes to prove the theory.

In a recent video Myles Gibson was trying a very similar rig.

Probably going to be Dec again before I come off the pop-ups and onto wafters and continue the experiment again.

PB products hit n run lead clips have become an essential part of my set up lately. From a safety POV, they are smashing, in the event of a crack off or cut off type incident the fish will only ever be left with the rig in its mouth and not trailing loads of line,

and because it's essentially free running they can't use the weight of the lead to help eject the hook. I've had a lot of screaming takes since switching to them.

I'm still using both the 360⁰rig and the reverse combi rig, and both still catching. I've tried a Multi-rig for the pop-up slivers over maize and birdfood, but did lose a fish to a hookpull, so went back to the other rigs, and specifically the reverse combi over the particles. I've shortened the fluorocarbon section over particles, to no more than 10mm.

Don't admit that, when I changed from a slip D back to a spinner rig after a hook pull I got loads of beef. 😬

Removable base so if you fish a water where sides are not needed you can leave that bit at home

Wychwood do a similar mat that's decent, they do a walled one and inside it has a removable oval mat,

I actually just have the oval mat and that's decent, it has a slightly concaved middle recessed bit and also a mesh that can go over the fish if it flaps to hold it down. I guess it's similar to the thinking anglers one

This takes me onto another scenario lol

So on that end point I noticed a bait boat come out from the bay on my left to a snag bush late at night. several trips.  This happened 2 weekends running.

Mass prebaiting 40 yards from someone?

    Discuss...

I wouldn't do it if anyone was fishing 😂

  13. I would have spodded both times and annoyed them out the zone 😂

Might have blown the secret but it would probably put them off a bit.

Either that or get the marker rod out find another spot and spomb the granny out of that 😂

I did switch to a Gardner Mugga this session and adapted the rig slightly, a loop knot to the swivel, and a sliding pop-up counterweight on the loop. Properly nailed in the mouth.

That seems a much better pattern for the 360 I think.

One product I found to be a bit of a gamechanger, was the korda balancing weights that attach to the swivel, I did try with a tungsten pop up weight but found unless you slid it right up the loop (kind of making the loop redundant) then the pop up came off the deck and moved too freely for my liking.

But then that could kill it even more lol

its all a headache and keep blanking isnt nice if that means that much to catch

personally I go to get away from real life

my last 3 visits to a bank were socials and the rods were only in the water for a couple of hours a day over the course of a weekend.

“Take what you will from this. You might say that the bailiff should not be ignored, after all they know the water as well as anyone. On the flip side, doing what others suggest takes away from what really matters which is figuring the place out. I have to say that not using a rig because it's in vouge is completely illogical. By all means try to be different, but if you're going to avoid using a rig at least have a good reason for it.”

    👏👏

Water temps will be good, if no one else is doing it then invite them all to the party if nothing else you will have a clear spot for next session.

fish range from about 12lb as smallest to about mid 30`s.

i usually put a small mesh bag on

tried a session with lobworms on a korda maggot clip, still blanked

If the bailiff said go easy on the bait, and you've tried a small mesh bag, you could try going the total opposite and bait really heavily. If everyone is going light give them an offer they can't refuse and spomb the granny out of it.

Some more info on this place

A bailiff told me Ronnie rig with small 12mm pop up and just a a small amount of freebies (6-12 boilies) around said hookbait but cant help thin that 90% of anglers are using and suggesting Ronnie as its the "Vogue" rig this year.

The lake bed is littered with rocks/bricks/building rubble , very snaggy, this was caused many years ago when the put the 3 islands in, so fishing close to the islands is a good way to snag up and go out in the boat to free up

Canadian pondweed is rife, its really hard to find a spot to fish due to the weed, clear patches are few and far between.

As for getting a Deeper, sorry but thats a £200 spend on yet more kit, feels like throwing good money after bad at this stage!

The lake is long with the islands mid point from most of the margins depth starts at around 3ft, soon drops to about 6-7ft then hits an "underwater channel that runs round most of main body going down to 12-14ft before getting to what they call the "road" running out to and intersecting the islands and that is about 6ft deep, but with lots of snags either side of the road, the lake has an inlet from larger Ski lake and an outflow into local canal, the inlet flows into the back bay that is less snaggy, a bit more shallow and less weedy

I have put a pic up the red line sort of gives an idea of the deeper channel that runs round main body, the green lines show whats called the road

    lake.JPG

It's the vogue rig because it works, I've done countless posts on my version and have 100% confidence in it. Lots of people catch plenty using them.

If it rains fish at the inlet. And if the weed is that bad you could try and rake a spot. But probably there will be clear spots, they will be showing themselves just keep your eyes open. You could also try fishing solid bags into the weed.

    Good luck.

I used bags quite a lot when I joined the last syndi, on one of the lakes I'd get lots of knocks as soon as the bag landed, fizzing the lot - then after 10 mins all quiet.  I'd re-cast and the same happened.  I'm convinced they were hiding in the weed coming out blowing the bag, eating the loose stuff then leaving just my hookbait.  This went on all day and no takes.

I've now got some mega 8ml barrel wafters in pellet flavour from CCMoore with exactly this in mind for later in the year.  I also came up with a few ideas around decoy baits after this that I will use one day.  Not giving too much away I think this will be a real winner.

I think I might have thought of something similar in the past. I feel like the cherry on the cake seems a bit obvious amongst a load of 2mm pellets. A quick flick of the tail and that's all that sits there still.
