You can use an alternative centrepin cast with a fixed spool reel pull line of the eyes and hold in one hand swing rod out let line go good for under trees

Not sure how much this venue has changed but the access into and out of it is very tight so if you have a transit sized vehicle expect to work on the steering. also very easy to miss the turning into the lane. there was another access point in a housing estate but that was mainly for parking for the other lake. there are a few lakes in very close proximity to each other. good luck to those going. how much is a ticket now if you can get one.

    Bury Hill Memories

I have fished Bury Hill on and off since the 80's. Originally it was only the main lake, the baliff was a certain Mr Rowles, what a character he was! Then the place was one of the only ones in the south to introduce 'any method' trout fishing to get around the long gone close season on lakes. Not surprised it is closing, the owner I believe built a house by the main lake where the shop and cafe used to be, and now wants his privacy I am guessing. Milton lake was always my favorite, used to be fantastic for crucians and tench on the pole, then as ever I think it was netted and was never the same again. Not my thing at all but the main lake used to be a premier water for zander fishing, wonder what happened to them?

    Bury Hill Memories

Hi all. Friday is the last possible day for fishing at Bury Hill in Surrey. It's such a sad loss to the local fishing scene. The old lake closed to fishing a few years ago when the old boat house was sold off and the place became members only. Now the last day is almost upon us, does anyone else have any memories to share of this significant venue. I'm lucky to be able to book on for 36 hours from tomorrow morning, so I'll have one last crack at temple. I've always blanked on temple so far, but had my PB (32lb 10oz) out of the old lake back in May 2013, beating my previous best of 12lb by a big margin. Hopefully something will be arranged for fishing in the future, but who knows. It will be missed.

Yes, far to dodgy now, and for a bloke of my age! Remember many years ago I saw some pics of some very big carp in the main lake taken by an 'Urban explorer', if they are still there who knows?

  16. Sorry, just seen this... I use them all year round they seem to work well as they are a big hit of fishy protein... I often feed a couple chopped with a few 8 or 10mm pellets

I remember seeing someone used to do an underarm catapult type cast, where they would hold the bait in their hand, pull it to tc and let it fly.

With the short casting it’s an art for sure. Try hitting the clip with the rod tip high, just flicking the lead out and then following it down. I fish a spot similar on a club water. A deeper silty gully between weedbeds. But I fish braided mainlines too so easier to mess it up! sometimes though you just have to keep casting until it’s right. A lighter lead will help 1. Reduce noise when recasting and 2. Bit more forgiving to get out.

And when the wind changes strength as you start the cast... I know about seeing a marker float can be difficult, I found fluorescent orange stands out to me, where I lose yellow or black tops even in shiny pale water reflection. Would a white marker float work for you?

Don't blame you, it's rare to find some peace and quiet these days.

  23. Hopefully not intruding on this thread, I was one of the original Carp Society members who helped them buy Horseshoe lake, spent 3 seasons there and long since sold up. Different times and so much more chilled, times have so much changed, sign of old age I guess lol

Take your time, once you find a complex that feels nice what's the rush, I kind of don't want to catch my targets coz the fishing is peaceful and might not find that again

I think I will have to try if I go any shorter mate, I've sort of found the sweet spot for it now, if not on the first cast I'm getting it on the second attempt πŸ‘Œ No carp on this trip, did a 6lb tench this morning that ripped off like a carp 🀣 I'm off there now until Sunday, so baited the spot with half a bucket of particle which will hopefully keep it clean lol. Got so much to learn on this complex, I'm currently on a lake of 4 acres with 150 carp and only fished one swim so far lol. The next lake I wanna get on is just under 9 with about 150 - 180 carp they reckon. But it has more weedbeds, lilies and snags lol.

    New bedchair, HOW MUCH?

Google 'bedchair support legs' mate. You can turn any 6-leg into a 7 or 8-leg bedchair for 20 or 30 quid. This will bring loads of great options well within your budget. I've been using a single support leg on the end of mine for years, just gives that little extra support to prevent bending at the hinges.

Also depends on how hard you hit the clip with stretch in mono you can end up feet off the spot. I had a similar thing with using 4oz leads on a session and caught a few fish and only had 3oz leads left. Could I find the spot again, could I heck.

I caught a tench yesterday, as I reset the rod, a high double/ possible 20 swam under the rod tips πŸ’€πŸ€£ and to top it off I had a hook pull on a carp this morning 😬 Thanks for the advice though mate, its been a massive learning curve tbh, over the last few years I've been mainly on the reservoirs fishing 20 - 25 wraps with 3 rods fanned out over quite a big area, now I'm fishing two at 5 wraps on a small spot, it's been a nightmare trying to hit the clip properly and keeping them close together lol. Really enjoying it though πŸ‘
