To prevent contamination with germs, water companies add a disinfectant—usually either chlorine or chloramine—that kills disease-causing germs such as Salmonella, Campylobacter, and norovirus. Quote from Google. I've got a bit paranoid about tainting bait and if I'm soaking particles, I'll boil the water in a saucepan for a few minutes, let it stand for about 15 minutes and then add it warm to the seeds. That should boil off any chlorine and it also speeds up the softening process.2 points -

I've now found out I can't even fish this now 😭😭😭 Time for myself at moment looks like it will never happen at least in September....I've been on 1 quick overnighter since 7th July, that was by chance..... MIGHT be able for a overnighter on 29th September, as Wife is away Friday, Saturday that weekend, then she's also away for the next 3 weekends after that, so I could have at least 3x 24hrs on the bounce 29th September, 6th October, 13th October.....All Fridays.🤞🤞🤞🤞1 point -

From tap to kettle, boil and pour on particles. Or from pasta into bucket and freeze. Defrost and pour on particles to soak them.1 point -
Water for particles

It's going to be a busy week for me mate, I've got 5 x 10l buckets, to soak the first batch in for 48 hours, 1 hemp, 2 tigers and 2 maize. Going to grind away and try and cook the lot in one afternoon, then bag/freeze. Fill the buckets up again and repeat the process. I reckon 2 goes should use most of it up 🤔 going to try and find another pot as well, got an old pressure cooker floating around somewhere lol1 point -

I always soak mine in cold water straight from the tap, that seems overkill to me putting it in perrier, by the time it's boiled and all the other stinky winky is added it's been sterilised anyway.1 point -
If you must, it is cheap enough. Tap water is fine though some use mineral water due to it not having a bleach smell, if you leave the water in a open container all the gases will come off and the bleach smell. At a rush 1 drop of lemon juice will do the same instantly in around 5l of tap water.1 point

Never heard of that or used mineral water when I used to do my particles. Maybe do a batch with and a batch without and compare catch results.1 point

A bait boat will help you put more fish on the bank for sure, simply because you can put a bait where it is impossible to cast to., but... I fished a lake in the Colne valley many years ago and one season a new angler arrived and I'd never met somebody who was so bad at casting i thought he was a proper noddy. I got chatting to him one day and asked where he'd fished before etc and he rolled off a number of impressive catches and i thought i had misjudged him but at the end of our conversation he mentioned that the lakes he had been fishing were all bait boats. He said he hadn't cast a rod in 6 years. So yes a bait boat is a huge help but if you rely on them then it may very well take away all your skills as an angler, which if your next lake didn't allow them you may well come unstuck. On a side note, I've never used one and had ample opportunities to use them, especially in France but I personally see it as is not right. I'm not knocking anyone who does use them by the way, each to their own and fish how you want to fish and not how others want you to.1 point

So just a little update, used it for the first time on yesterday's session, right out the box it was loaded with 63% of battery, so I used it without trying the panels, will set it up later today and see how it charges with them 👍 The power pack itself is great, I charged my phone from roughly 15% to 85% twice and my vape from flat to full once, then charged the vape a again for a 2 bars, all its used is 10% of the battery. On my 5 day session starting next Sunday I will charge my laptop, phone and other stuff off it so will give another update then 👍 Overall im really impressed so far 😎1 point

Can bait boat really up catch rate?
jh92 reacted to Golden Paws for a topic
What a faff! To get any distance, you've got to take more poles then a plumber installing a central heating system from scratch! Any slight wind or undertow and it's going to snake out and you're going to struggle to get it to go where you want. Although my boats meanders a bit with a chop on, at least you can instantly compensate. A pole is probably alright for a margin spot but I wouldn't go much more than that.1 point -

Looks really good that, give us an update after some use. I've also looked at the Anker ones but so expensive, but it's a great make so I imagine they will be reliable.1 point

I’d love an anker powerhouse.. just can’t justify the purchase to myself..no matter how much it would be handy for the boat. plus it would need to be able to run a 2.2kw jet wash without tripping out lol1 point

Yeah mate, well I've ended up buying this - https://uk.iallpowers.com/collections/solar-generator-600w/products/allpowers-600w-solar-generator-100w-solar-panel-sp027 It's £449 but they are doing £50 off at checkout at the moment, also used a discount code and got it down to £314.30. I'll keep the thread updated on its performance, i do think the solar panels will be useful on long trips👍1 point
