  1. I would have to agree with the other comments mate, I’ve got a small range of coarse gear, enough to go out and trot some maggots down a river if the mood takes me, but I couldn’t give up my carp gear, they say a change is as good as a rest mate, after a few float fishing sessions, I’m soon craving a carp fishing session. Once your gears gone, it’s very hard to replace. I sold all my beach fishing gear as I didn’t think I could use it again after my shoulder injuries, but 3yrs down the line, I walk along the beach wishing I could chuck a few rods out or stand in the surf with a bass rod, the sun setting, gulls screaming around me and I bitterly regret getting shot of the beach gear. Yet I can’t afford to replace it right now so I’m stuck. Don’t make the same mistake I did!

    The Actor Bait Boat

It was 8 months old, paid 140 with a nice padded bag. I like the headlight position, it's raised so should give good visual at night and it's so small and light. The proof will be tomorrow when I try it out on water.

    Carp to Coarse/Match

While I do carp fish mostly I do fish for other fish at times, often pike in the winter, chub on floating baits in the summer and the occasional tench, roach or silver fish session. I would never sell any of my gear, as I enjoy it all. Like others, I wish I had not sold my bass rods, although I might push a marker or spod rod into use...

    Korda krimp

I’ve used the crimp system and on the correct hooklinks, it can form lovely neat loops, with the wrong hooklink it will come undone on the lightest of pressures. They are useful for spinner booms and making up combi rigs, but to be honest, I’ve just gone back to knotting it! Using the domhoff (don’t know how you spell that!) for combi rigs and figure of 8 loops for spinner booms. I tend to favour a semi stiff material for the lake beds I’m fishing over at the moment so crimping isn’t an option for me right now.

    Self Takes

Even if your camera can't take an intervalometer, you should be able to install 'Magic Lantern' on your Canon. I have been using this for a few years now and it is absolutely spot on. It is essentially 3rd party software that you install on your memory card and it opens up a load of extra features on your camera such as an intervalometer amongst other things. I generally use a 50mm equivalent lens (so 35mm on a crop sensor camera like yours) and use the aperture priority setting with an Av of around 5.6 and let the camera decide shutter speed for me. (this is obviously variable depending on light levels but is a good starting point). I set magic lantern's intervalometer to take a picture every 4 seconds and autofocus before every shot. I then go back through and delete all but the decent ones. One thing that is super helpful is having the twisty/flip screen so that I can line up the shot before getting the fish on the mat but I don't think the 4000d has that feature. A couple of example pics done with this method and an old/cheap Canon 600d with kit lens below. This video (from 4mins in) should give enough info to get you started with magic lantern.

    Carp to Coarse/Match

I think I will have a small setup put to 1 side for a few hours here and there... The best point about Carp fishing is the Night fishing on certain nights when it's really quiet in summer, the sunset in Background and its a nice cool evening, also taking the lad & dog along also.

    Carp to Coarse/Match

Don't be ridiculous @Highy🤣. Where's the challenge in being constantly busy catching pasties? You'd be bored after the second session mate. By all means do a bit on the side but as a straight swap...... no way man!

    Carp to Coarse/Match

I wouldn't sell all your stuff before you have a go, You might enjoy it more but you may not and then you are back to square one, For me I think the important part is venue choice with carp fishing, if you don't enjoy fishing it or it has idiots on it, and it doesn't grab you then it isn't the right lake for you, sadly there do seem to be more idiots lately though, Give it a go but baby steps first 😏

  14. Looks like fun need a tea boy or a chain lad once built three bridges on the M40 lol did the marking out for the diggers right up to marking out where the bearing plates would sit on top of the concrete that the steel crossbeams sit on., it was the only job they would give me due to age seventeen had to be eighteen to get a labours job. The guys with a good trade or their own 360 machine were making real big money being in the engineers team i got to work with most of the trades always a good bit of competition to see which trade was earning the most. That area and the whole of Warwickshire could do with a few decent big fish venues something like a Linear fishery in south Warwick would make someone a lot of money.

    Non-PVA funnel web?

This one is branded JAXON, and instructions are in polish, so yeah, highly unclear. The local tackle shop has a small shelf of mixed angling stuff; some hooks, floats, sinkers and feeders, three kinds of groundbait, and the occasional bag of boilies and other oddballs. The shopkeeper is mostly into fly fishing, and some perch, so he has the section under the premise "some people buy angling stuff, they probably know what they're looking for". Agreed. I've been fishing for thirty-odd years, but mainly spinning and some fly fishing, only got into coarse fishing a year ago, so it's still a whole new playground. Also, angling in general is a quite small niche in Sweden. Back here it's the stone age, and two of our shops beginning to offer maggots by the pint is this year's sensation.

  17. In all the excitement i almost forgot to put the view from my bivvy on the post, well not a view from a bivvy really more like a view from hiding under the tree's whilst wading around in mud trying not to disturb my swim whilst fishing in the margins..
