Where do you start with Goo ?
Its-grim-up-north and 3 others reacted to yonny for a topic
Your choices are decent ones mate. I've used all 3 of them. The pink almond is the best imo. The tuna one is decent too if you're after a fishy one. Pretty much mate. I do use Goo now and again. Reason being an experience I had several years ago now. I was fishing a water in the Valley and doing OK but I was getting out-fished by a close mate of mine. I was wracking my brains as to why and I ended up asking him straight out what he was doing. His answer was Goo (I'd never used it at this point and tbh thought it was a load of rubbish). He was Goo-ing his pop ups in the pink almond. I ended up Goo-ing a pot up and carrying on as I had been but with the pink almond pop ups. Long story short I had it right off, catching all but one of the fish I was after in a matter of weeks including my main target kipper, a very special one (see below). Now it could have been coincidence that it all came together after I started with the Goo, but with each capture came confidence and with more confidence came more captures. I don't use the stuff all the time (I believe it's more effective on certain waters than others) but I can say that using it appeared to make a difference on some of the waters I've fished. If that's what Goo does then I like it lolπ4 points -

For me personally, I wouldn't touch korda goo or any similar product. For me having total confidence in the bait you use should be enough. Start adding goos and glugs then you might start questioning whether it's the bait , the glug or whatever is catching the fish. Use a matching enhancer that match your hookbaits for sure but a goo not for me. I suppose it's all about what you're confident in. If it gives you confidence then fair enough but for me your confidence should be in your bait and not an overpowering goo.3 points -
Carp Give Away ?
Carpmaster and 2 others reacted to elmoputney for a topic
If you want to play them smarter avoid the bigger prizes, tbh though they are gambling and addictive and you will find the odds are terrible usually, they won't lose out when running them, work out the cost of the item and then the ticket cost and how many tickets to sell out usually they make twice as much as the item, and you can bet they are buying at trade, If you want to win more then work out the max entries / tickets allowed then x100 or % if using a calc As a suggestion we will say 100 entries and 6 per person that gives you a 6% chance of winning that raffle if you buy 6 and a 94% of not winning that raffle π€ the odds are heavily stacked on you not winning If you are going to use one though use one that is legit, and has a gambling licence as they won't get shut down, Pm me if you need any more advice on this but be careful it is gambling and quite addictive π³ If I don't win another 20kg of CC Moore live system this time I'm stopping π3 points -
π€·ββοΈWho knows mate. I was certainly convinced it made the difference at the time (it was like flicking a switch when I started using it). I've been convinced on other waters since, but at the same time I've fished waters where I couldn't see it made any difference whatsoever. My go-to is to fish a corkball the same as my freebies but I'll normally have one Proper Job out there glugged in something or other (normally a Goo). If that one starts to go more frequently I'll switch them all over.2 points

Absolute stonker mate. Do you think that the goo had that much of an impact to your catches? Or was it maybe the more you fished, the more bait you applied and the more confident the fish got on your bait? Impossible to answer that I guess. Either way, what a fish mate.2 points -

A few pike including a new PB over 20lb
Pelamid reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
As my current water is not particularly carp friendly, I've been exploring its pike potential with a few trips this year. Over 4 trips a mate and I have had some good fish, pike from 2 to 21lbs, normally a couple each trip, although we did manage a blank between us each day. The mate in question is the friend who managed to catch the twenty I lost last year, really into his fishing now, and enjoying it. Our first pike trip produced 3 to me, and Colin saved a blank with the small jack last knockings. My fish were two around 6lb, and a scrappy 16 with a missing pec. The next trip, Colin managed another couple of jacks, and again I had 3, topped with a 17. The 17 was a bit of a nightmare, not the fish, but the idiot dog walker who as I was unhooking it, got so close to the rod tip, moved it away from his face, and pulled the treble under my nail, more problems unhooking me than the pike. Unfortunately we both blanked next trip, but hey ho. A week later we were back at the venue, after a couple of casts I cast a whole joey mackeral, and within minutes, a finicky take with just a few bleeps and a nodding rod tip, no line pulled out the clip I hit into this beauty at 21lb The smile is very real, only my second ever pike over 20, worthy of a new PB at 21. Simple Stiff d rig
elmoputney reacted to ouchthathurt for a topic
I still use stiff D rigs now and then, dependant on the situation. I used to use amnesia/Fluro/stiff links religiously a fair few years ago, as on my lake everyone was using braids, so I tied up some amnesia rigs just to be different... caught a 29lber that night, a PB at the time so I fished on with them full of confidence. wind the clock forward 22+yrs and the thought of using a fluro/amnesia/stiff link can make me wonder about it βnot sitting properlyβ etc... and I find myself leaning towards a coated braid again. 20odd years ago I didnβt give it a second thought, it went out, I caught fish on it happy happy. ive got so many different braids and fluros and other hook link materials (about 15 different types in my tacklebox, if not more...) that Iβm probably in very real danger of disappearing up my own rectum...1 point -
Echo the lads already, getting them going this time of year is almost pointless. Only time I know of it being done to any effect is a mate that absolutely filled in a fairly high stocked water with about 20/30kg a week of boilie and managed to get them going big time. Not exactly the best use of your time or money though unless you can really commit to it or the lake has a good stock of big fish. spend your time trying to nick a bite as said above, have a lead about and get to know your features for the year ahead. Personally I start baiting in mid feb in preparation for March/April time of year. Start with smaller amounts and increase weekly as the water temps warm up. You can put out half a kilo of small particles and crushed boilie and a few handfuls of whole boilies in order to keep them rooting and active on the spots once the bulky food items are eaten. if you can find a spot that you can keep quiet and isnβt an obvious one that everyone fishes then bait it without fishing for as long as possible and get on it when the conditions are right. You can reap serious rewards this way as the fish will be very confident feeding without danger from the moment they start waking up!1 point

Just got my latest proper jobs today Confidence in a pot π I love the camo BP+ but in washed out pink they really look the nuts, can't wait for some goo to arrive now, π I got the spice blend ones too they smell pretty special aswell1 point -
Just because there are no reports about a lake, doesn't mean nothing is happening. I know if I was fishing and definitely in the past myself and the few that carried on fishing kept everything to ourselves. A mate of mine had an excellent winter 4 yrs ago and to this day only 5 people know about it. This is simply for the fact that if people know or knew about his winter catches then the lake would be busy, potentially messing up your own fishing.1 point

Carp Give Away ?

That isn't strictly true, I got my sky bet account closed for being too successful π€ Over the course of 1 year I was up about a grand so they stopped me using that account, not massive money but they didn't like it that I had beat them, that Is how they beat the successful gamblers, don't get me wrong I'm not saying I was a successful gambler, it really isn't a get rich quick scheme, but I had learnt when I had an advantage, bookies paid for family holidays and some nice little treats, I never lost what I couldn't afford but having a family meant something had to give, I was betting sloppy and making mistakes, so I stopped because it was too much working, betting and having a family, I basically never switched off it was like having 2 full time jobs and I hadn't earnt enough/wasn't disciplined enough to go full time π³1 point -

If i catch one like that I'll be happy π Thanks for the input, I'm kind of relying on the old school anglers on the lake to think the same about goo tbh, that it is a load of rubbish then hopefully it's an edge for me, it's got to be worth a go anyway, I want the hookbait to be the feature in my swim so they can't resist it, π I had a chat with Kevin from PJPU the other day apparently the korda boys think his pop ups are the only ones that can handle a proper gooing and still stay up π1 point -

It's not that I'm not confident In my bait I do know it works well, I could quite happily carry on doing what I am doing but I think i might be able to do better concentrating more on making the hookbait stand out more π€ I don't get time for long sessions so if it helps get quicker action with less down time waiting for bites then hopefully that equates to more fish on the bank, I had a pretty good year last year, this year I want to do better, I can always switch back if it isn't working π1 point
