Agree 100%. I've tried all sorts in the past when it comes to bait but my successes have had little to do with bait. Confidence and drive are more effective attributes than any bait can ever be imo. That said, I will always check out any new ideas and theory's in the bait world. It's all part of the never ending learning curve that is carp angling.3 points

This ph lowering or highering has probably been flogged to death. And if it had worked ,then some clever so and so would have marketed it by now. Sometimes you can look/try too hard when just keeping things simple and going fishing is all it needs. Good luck in your quest but when I go next I'll take my trusted bag of boilies and be 100% confident.3 points

PH shift groundbait?
elmoputney and 2 others reacted to yonny for a topic
Very effective but that is due to the amino content (digested worms) rather than pH change. Imo a food signal will always be more effective than a simple investigation trigger. Certainly in any baiting situation anyway. For singles and zigs the jury is out.3 points -
Agree. I'm amazed guys would advocate that as an effective tactic. No one is disregarding free-lining in the right situation, but chucking baits 50 yards with no lead just doesn't make any sense at all to me.2 points

PH shift groundbait?
commonly and one other reacted to elmoputney for a topic
Yeah I think I might wait to try it when I next start a pre baiting campaign tbh not sure I think it is a good idea for an overnighter with winter fast approaching, I will be using some liquids though in my winter angling soluble ones naturally, and I will be adding some maggots this weekend too I have found waxing my hooks is the only way to stop them becoming rusty that doesn't involve expensive pen type things so I have been doing that with my kids old crayons What I have learned about salt so far is they do need it in there diet, but it is particularly useful at certain times of the year π2 points -

@elmoputney on paper your theory should work but it might be tricky to execute. You're spot on that the pH shift is simply the investigation trigger, but the amino liquid will serve as a feeding trigger, and the maggots simply can't be ignored. I have played with massively over-flavoured pop ups for their local pH changing properties but only in winter. I haven't pursued pH change as it applies to mass baiting as imo any soluble high amino solution will serve as a better attractor. You need to watch your sharpened hooks buddy. The lower the pH, the quicker the hook points will be attacked, so make sure either you protect the points very, very well with wax, or use a hook straight from the pack.2 points -

Hi guys anyone used the bait room pop ups
yonny reacted to Pete Springate's Guns for a topic
Yeah, I bought a few pots of the S2s at the beginning of the year for my spring fishing but a combination of circumstances has written off this season so far!1 point -
I mean the lakes are going, the clubs are going, un-fenced venues are on a hiding to nothing because of Otters. Gravel pits and new lakes being dug, generally do not have deep margins such as the old slate quarries that are nearly always Club Waters. Which is what I am trying to say to you, decent stalking waters are very thin on the ground, especially if you are looking at catching decent sized fish not pasties. The skills live on but the waters sadly do not.1 point

Absolutely agree. I probs agree with that too mate. Tbh I'd use the S2's in almost any situation other than an all-out baiting campaign (when I'll want to be using a matching recipe), but spring is when they come into their own imo.1 point -

Yes, I can follow your reasoning. Certainly in my experience the PJPUs are very good as singles in isolation and particularly so if they need to be out for a long time and whacked out at extreme range. Where do you place the likes of the S2-to me they are an out and out attractor bait in cork ball/chip format. Though not as resistant or as buoyant as the PJPUs.1 point -

Thatβs interesting, Yonny. Do you use Corkballs and or standard airballs in specific situations? Singles? Over particles, in Bags?1 point -

See I don't get that why use a stone in pva as a weight yes it works but why not just use a lead , this would have the extra advantage of helping hook the fish .Just because it can be done doesn't mean it best practice .1 point

ODAS and BDAC... yes freelining has it's place.... but as for trad gear being restrictive.... the rods in the picture were powerful enough to cast from one side of Redmire to the other (far enough for me) and have landed a 25lb 10oz Common, 26lb 3oz Mirror and a 20lb 1 oz mirror this year... they are 9'3" impregnated split cane Salmon spinning rods... more than capable of landing most carp, T/C approx 2.75-3.0lb I'd say they are beefier than my 2.75lb Nash Dwarf's1 point

PH shift groundbait?

This has been discussed before. https://www.carp.com/topic/3564-ive-learned-a-new-trickfrom-a-master/1 point -
I'm not sure it's an attractor as such but they do need salt and if it can be applied in a pre-baiting situation (i.e. with food) it can certainly help establish an area in the longer term.1 point

Would using a low ph groundbait not be counter productive if adding amino acids , won't the amino's increase the ph levels ? Is there a reason you want to lower rather the raise the levels How big a change do the fish detect , the change in PH levels could be why amino's work (just a thought ) Or just throw a pack of Rennie in1 point

Cant be compared bud. The proper jobs aren't cork balls. Cork balls are always better imo, but there are occasions when you need a standard pop up, that's where the proper jobs come in for me.1 point

PH shift groundbait?
yonny reacted to elmoputney for a topic
I do find when I hear things I like to investigate them a bit, but I also like to keep it simple, but from what little I now understand fish can be drawn to a PH imbalance as they will want to discover what is causing it so they investigate1 point -
Blimey , Elmo , you're a deep thinker aren't you π€. This is way over my head , I'll leave it to someone like Yonny to answer your question , not that I'll understand the answer anyway . π1 point

I feel for you mate. From my late teens til well into my 30's I suffered from severe anxiety. I still get it now but I'm in control of it much better now. It stopped me doing untold things in the past but with the help from counselling, amazing family and friends I've all but conquered it. On Wednesday my dad passed away after a long battle with cancer, years ago this would have had me going into complete meltdown and having all kinds of negative thoughts and dare I say doing some stupid things. But through the counselling its taught me so much about coping strategies etc .I was holding my dads hand as he passed, something that would have been impossible in the past. My mum said I've been her rock throughout my dads illness but especially in my dads last weeks, days. Hope you conquer whatever you're dealing with.1 point
