They've been hot on it this year, when I got to the res the other month something was saying to me to check my license, which I did and had to renew. Couple hours later these two ea officers came round donning stab proof vests, handcuffs and what I think were battons 🤣🤣 I had to ask out of curiosity if all that gear is needed, apparently there's been a rise in attacks against officers and they need it to protect themselves. I was pretty shocked about that tbh 🤣
framey
General warning ⚠️ Be careful when buying a license as there are plenty of bogus sites you can buy direct from the gov website. I was pretty shocked about that tbh 🤣 The past 4 years I actually haven't been checked, although much of my fishing has been on the syndicate. When I was fishing Alton Water up to 2020, the local bailiff knew me and my dog so would always know that I had one. He'd get to the swim and the licence was in hand. For years I was getting checked in Essex and Suffolk, often a couple of times a year. Sad that the licence has gone paperless, I did like the David Miller art. Being disabled I get the concessionary rate for 3 rods. jules007
have to say in all the years of fishing i have never been checked but when i decided to return to fishing after a long break, first thing i did was go on .gov and buy a 2 rod course licence, and that arrived yesterday

I did get the option to receive a paper license this year and went for it..... same artwork as last year 👎. Obviously clearing stocks. I've saved every paper licenses since the Miller art started. At some point I plan to get them all in a frame, will make a nice edition to my carp room. kevtaylor, jh92 and salokcinnodrog
elmoputney
I got checked for the first time ever last year, it has got expensive, but it's still only 5ltrs of olive oil, half a tank of diesel, probably 7 or 8 pints of beer at a pub, and over 4 x national minimum wage and about the price of cooking a roast on a Sunday with the heating on low. The only thing we need now are wages, pensions and benefits to catch up and we will all live happily ever after. barry211, yonny and jh92

It sucks being a number but it's paying the bills while I get myself and a plan together 👍 elmoputney

I've paid probably tens of thousands in tickets over the years and not once have I seen any syndicate I've been on benefit from license fees. I had a club ticket for the past few years which I thought made the license fee easier to swallow but even then I saw nothing. If I fished the rivers then I'd think the license is a bargain but I don't. Imo your average carp angler sees nothing from license fees. It's just another tax. I've only been checked once in the last 25 years. It was the 1st of April about 10-15 years ago, on a day ticket place, and I hadn't had time to renew (schoolboy error). To be fair to them they checked my history on their little tablet thingy and saw I'd had a license continuously for years. They let me get the license online there and then. Got a letter a while later saying no action taken. Fair play to them. kevtaylor and jh92

If you fished on the rivers you might catch the plague or something these days, all the faecal matter being dumped into them by privatised water companies, ruining the utilities whilst making gross profits for shareholders, and yet when they go belly up we will have to bail them out again with tax payer funding. I'm not sure what the rod licence really does either.but it hasnt maintained our waterways, they always flood now because they never seem to dredge thema keep the drains clean. Nowadays the ouse seems flooded for a 3rd of the year. Whag a country this is, ruled by parasites of the working class. yonny and kevtaylor

Nowadays the ouse seems flooded for a 3rd of the year. Whag a country this is, ruled by parasites of the working class. I'm wary of fishing my local river, aside from the fishing going downhill; chub, carp, roach and pike have disappeared from various stretches. Predation and pollution have taken their toll, and abstraction has lowered flow. In Needham Market and Sproughton at times by the sewage outflows it stinks. From Sproughton downstream, the river was totally covered in duckweed and algae and was unfishable with no flow. The Conservative MP was campaigning for a river clean up, yet voted to continue the sewage be pumped in, bit of virtue signalling methinks. He got voted out at the GE. I don't think Labour will be any better! I'm not sure dredging is the answer as that just means high levels flow off faster, you need some barrier. Allowing building companies to build on flood plains doesn't help as that is where standing water flooded onto and gradually drained off. Now that flood plain is houses, and they are getting flooded. The Environment Agency are hamstrung, government funded, and with our licence fee, so have to approve national and local government building ideas. The anglers lose out, despite paying for it. I totally agree about the parasitic politicians, although I'm not sure they are working class. They rule the country, whether Labour, or Conservative but introduced devolution which to me is a backwards step. One of the meanings of devolution is to regress, to go to a lower or worse state, that has definitely happened! Devolution has not put more decisions to a democratic process, it's given more decisions to business, to private companies, given them more freedoms to pollute, to rip off the public and population. Devolution has not put more decisions to a democratic process, it's given more decisions to business, to private companies, given them more freedoms to pollute, to rip off the public and population. I didn't say the ruling class were working class btw just they are parasites of the working class ie they take everything from the working class to live lives of luxury whilst sitting on backsides trying to take our human rights away, Devolution is happening because of the slow agonising death of capitalism. There is a new big cheese in town and the capitalists and neoliberalists weren't prepared for it sadly neither were the socialists, making big money is no longer about owning the machinery to produce things, and controlling the wages of the Labour who do the producing. it's all about a few people owning all the cloud based equity, they can charge capitalists cloud rent for things like selling on amazon, ebay,Spotify, Google ads etc without being bound by taxation like capitalists, so even the ruling class are being whipped and the working class just go about being programmed and manipulated by what they read and view online, also paying for services to entertain themselves, have you ever had a discussion with someone about a product or person or something and even without searching, later on that day it's become a suggestion for you to purchase or news stories appear about that person or thing? It's only going to get worse until goverments gain control of it. And I don't think they have a clue how yet. Anyway back on topic, rod licences grrr yonny
greekskii
Think this is the common opinion, that you see no benefit, and probably dont, but it all depends on how deep you look in to where it goes. I personally know of at least 50k worth of rod licence monies that went back in to improving the River Nene, because I spent it! Also another 20k has gone to the local angling club in the last few years for various projects like otter fencing & platform access over the venues. The club has to be proactive in getting hold of it as the grants come up twice a year. Calverton fish farm is partly paid using rod licence money, so all those fish restocked after pollution or to supplement species like barbel population or to restock club waters. The EA are being cut to death by central government, most of the teams rely on the big budgets of FCRM to supplement them. It's about time the government twigged on to the fact they'd be raking it in if they employed 100s of EA bailiffs and went and caught all the dodgers out and got the fine income. Sadly the EA dont get the fine money, it goes straight to treasury to be spent on a dinner party or something. yonny, kevtaylor, salokcinnodrog and 2 others
