I'd like to make a big batch of boilies (12kg trial size).

 

How many eggs does 1kg of powder make?

Whole egg powder can be used to replace liquid egg by mixing it with water to create your own 'liquid egg'. We suggest using 250-320g of whole egg powder to make 1 litre of liquid egg, but a higher level inclusion will increase the binding potential of the liquid.

Ok but how many eggs is a litre of the mix?

Approximately 20 - 25 medium eggs would give you a litre.

I think it's cheaper. I can't see the bait makers cracking eggs into the mix by the hundred. A quick calc says it's about half the cost.

1kg of powder using the above measure (250g to 1ltr) is = +_ 50 large eggs :lol:

i know for a fact premier baits use nothing but fresh eggs. i was there once just after they took delivery of 2 pallets of eggs and they were over 6ft tall. something like 10,000 eggs or something silly like that, all needing to be cracked by hand  . some firms use buckets of broken eggs etc. for me using whole egg powder may give you a slight edge as most baits are made using liquid egg, be they fresh, broken etc

They could use the Haynes Method of egg cracking (a la Carry on Cruising   ).

1) Take a galvanised bath full of eggs, 2) drop from chest hight on to a hard floor, 3) strain resulting mess through a sieve!

I know of a couple of bait companies who threw whole eggs into a concrete mixer and giving them a whizz before adding basemix. A nice mix of egg liquid and shell all adding to the baits effectiveness (or not).

 

I also know of a few who added egg powder and water.

 

The choice is yours, but personally I do like the real deal.

If you use egg powder than you can put more liquid attractor to your base mix and it would be not so sticky... And you can get harter baits on some water where you need to fight against other invasive fish(bullhead)...

I use fresh eggs when making bait, I've got chickens in the garden too... I do use egg white powder as it helps harden the hookbaits, but that's about it.
