  1. Sad, it is such a shame, especially if big chub get ottered as they would be proper old fish [emoji25]
  2. Didn't bloomin work though!!! [emoji23] [emoji23] [emoji23]
  3. Better version, the level of the bait in the water and a reflection of the stiff section can been seen.
  4. If you wanted to go super mad, this does actually cast quite well! Stiff fluro to lighter main line. I called it the reverse combi surface mirror Chod rig [emoji12] it doesn't show up well but the bait is just under the surface with the hook clear of the water and the join in the lines is where it touches the surface.
  5. If you use a stiffish hook length and tie it so it exits the eye of the hook at the front I find it naturally curls up from the bait and enters the water about an inch or two away
  6. This is kind of the idea, a crude version, I'd push the weight into the hookbait, with luncheon meat it is just a case of luncheon meat on one side with half a pop up on the other with the hook on the side of the pop up, you have to play around with the size of weight and amount of meat to make sure it floats but is pretty easy. Using mesh or tights isn't too tricky. Tights are a cheaper way to go but there is more faff though. This is what is use with arma mesh. It is a syringe from my boys calpol with the tip cut off. Makes a bait of about 15mm [emoji12]
  7. Sorry Ddgx I didn't get to go yesterday, ended up on boy duty with a list of jobs to do [emoji51] I'll try and mock up something at home tonight for you
  8. Yonny - that is brilliant!! Most check their hooks with a couple of pricks to their hands or nails... you check them in a laboratory!!! That is so cool!!
  9. That advert makes me realise we don't have it that bad with the likes of promo kings Nash and korda etc!! Watching that I feel like I could defeat the whole of ISIS with just a hook [emoji23] I'm interested that they compare it to a syringe having read a triangular point is far superior to penetrate skin, my worry would be that I'd be expecting literal syringe sharpness so would probably end up dissapointed. Yonny - knowing your background in metal work I eagerly await your review! Looks like my list of things to buy will be getting longer this month!!! As an after thought I'd be interested to see how they sharpen up after some use as well. Could be a winner
  10. Not watched the vid as am at work, but the guys name is Swindle! Made me chuckle
  11. He he! Whatever colour the Mrs won't miss [emoji39] arma mesh is great also. I do find with meshing bait a small bit of Pva is needed, nugget or stick, to make sure the hook doesn't snag on the mesh. I'm sneeking a day off work on friday and will have my surface meat bait on the go so will post some pics
  12. For Ddgx - Luncheon meat and cork mushed up in tights is amazing and will cast miles [emoji41] occasionally I try to be really clever and fish the bait on a hair with a small shot in the hair loop. When I get it right the weight flips the bait so the hook is out of the water above the bait and sometimes it'll lift the last inch of line clear of the water as well.
  13. It was stocked at 14lb! And was actually a boy [emoji12] http://www.bayeswaterfishing.co.uk/stock/syndicate-lakes-black-spot/ I wonder if it died "naturally" in that it is a fast growing but short lived strain ? There is no denying that bayeswater is a modern commercial carp fishery but the fish in the syndicate are pretty much exclusively fished for by experienced and conscientious anglers. I'd be amazed if there was any wrong doing involved. It'll be a sad day for the guys there especially having seen it grow from a baby
  14. Yes saw that, [emoji25] nothing has been said on fb to give an explanation, could have been the heat ?
  15. 6lb! Wow! That's proper that is!!
  16. Let me know if you want to go jungle clubbing, I can get you access to Pips Ford just past Alderson [emoji12]
  17. That is a jolly good idea Mr NM, I may head that way next time out [emoji39]

Erm I don't want to worry you but it looks like your human is trying to dig their way out!

    Aviary .

I have to do that to the wife quite often ...
  20. Sorry bayeswater fans (Crusian) plan change, no fun in Essex for me tomorrow. My boy wants to fish and the wife is getting her hair done so is "encouraging" him to join me. I don't think he could handle my probable lack of bites. So we'll be staying in Suffolk. I'll probably find my old fishing with noddy thread and update that. [emoji39]
  21. OK if it had to be two 1 - combi made with hydrolink (25lb braid outer with 10lb flouro inner) hooks as above Length would a pretty standard 6-8 inches. Tied stiff, with small perfection loop to the swivel. Hook end would be tied stiff, chod style whipping knot with a small D, about an inch from the hook I take out about an inch of the fluro to give a short curved stiff section from the hook with the "hinge" of no fluro and the rest stiff to the swivel. I think the curve gives brilliant turning, and makes it more difficult to eject. Kind of makes the hook much bigger or a bit like spitting out a tooth pick. I add a tiny split shot to the end of the curve in the hope that it pulls the hook down into the mouth. When I lay the rig on my kitchen surface and move the swivel so it drops off the side usually the hook will turn and grip the edge and stop it falling to the floor. This is currently tied with a size 6 hook straight point wideish gape and in turned eye. Straight point to help with hooking rather than a curved point for grip. Plastic bait screw on the d with a 10mm pop-up. This sits just off the bottom and ends up more critically balanced than popped up. Sorry for the essay, but you did ask "why" [emoji12] [emoji12] Oh yes rig number two would be a naked running chod never any longer than 3 inches made from camh20 or mouthtrap with the biggest hook and smallest bait I can get to work [emoji39] bottom bead set anywhere from a foot up to 3 foot from the lead and top bead would be 3 - 4 foot up from that. Why...? Because I was suggested to try it that way...
  22. After a lot of searching I've settled on these hooks in 6 and 8. http://www.deceptionangling.co.uk/shop/index.php?route=product/product&path=98_102&product_id=225 Oooh can't do two rigs though Reverse combi / flick rig, what ever you want to call it. (Very short stiff section) Normal combi Knotless knot Hinge stiff or Chod. All made with different combinations of solar contour 15lb, rigmarole camh20 20lb and hydrolink 15lb. And occasionally korda mouth trap in 15lb although will now probably stick with camh20. If it had to be one material it'd rigmarole hydrolink in 15lb as it gives so much choice [emoji39] My go to rig would definitely be reverse combi with short stiff section. Love it
  23. No need for pm, apparently that is how anglers get in!!!! I'll let you know if I get through intact [emoji12]
  24. Looks like they won't be getting back in!
  25. But the current weather forecast shows a slight change in direction the night before I go, so I'll know where to look for the fishies! This will narrow my choices which in a way is good because it means I'll have a clear choice of a swim I'm confident in or to go elsewhere
