crusian
Hi Has anyone used these hooks , particularly the Medium Curve Shank , and if so what do you think of them please ? . Ta .
blanksalot
Used most of the range bar the curve, but they are quality hooks, highly recommended
crusian
Thanks Blank . I have been sharpening my hooks with the Jag files , but I'm wondering now if I've been caught up by possible marketing hype ; and hooks like the Ace range are already sharp enough especially as I'm fishing in the margins or only a few rod lengths out ? . InteraX
I've been using these since I came across them whilst talking to the owner of one of my local tackle shops. He'd only just got them in and weren't even on the shelf. Having previously used the Fox range and was starting to get disillusioned with them, I can say I'm very impressed. I think every one I've taken out of the packaging has been needle sharp. Last year I caught a 33lb fish on one of them and the hook was fine afterwards. newmarket
I hear that they are aptly described . They are on my list to be tried this year ...

kevtaylor
I've got a pack - yes they are pretty sharp but I cannot say that they are any sharper than my other hooks - such as Mugga's, Nailers etc Feel I've been had by hype tbh
crusian
Thanks Kev. When I went to my local tackle shop to buy my first pack I was told that these new Ace hooks were the best selling hooks they had ever stocked , so I was expecting something super wonderful . The Curves may well " spin " without the need for a kicker ( I've only just started using them ) , but I wouldn't say they are definitely the sharpest hook I have ever used . So I may well have to keep using the JAG files ! .
mozibay
dont use them lost 2 fish wednesday on then both hooks opened up big time and both different patterns aswell so back to fox arma points for me .
crusian
Thanks Mozibay . I took one of my rods out of its' padded sleeve , put it together and noticed the hook point of the Medium Curve Shank had " turned over " . So what with your comment on how you have had this brand of hook open up on you Mozibay I'll be keeping a close watch on them .
newmarket
Doesnt matter how sharp they are if they open out is it ? Could be a dodgy vatch i spose . As with every brand . Even K
mozibay
could be but 2 differnet patterns is enough for me to stop using them ..rubber hooks lol

newmarket
ive been using deception hooks this year, havent had any problems with them yet, they do some good deals on their website, got 4 packs for a tenner myself. mufty Cant say i've heard of deception but i'll be taking a look see mufty mate .... I love a hook thread i know this didnt start out as a which hook ? Thread as such but since its turning into one Im still not at a point yet where i've decided which hooks i prefer , i dont really fish enough to come to a conclusion yet but i have tested and am still testing various brands & patterns such as Gama 204's Muggas Kam 175's Fox arma's I even still try and find a valid use for some oldish fox series 4 longshanks . Truth is i havent really been let down by any of them either in required sharpness or strength in the battle. Except you know who's hooks of course . Got wise to them a long time ago
cyborx
i cant seem to move away from fox AP's and covert mugga's, went to my local purveyor of tackle the other day to get some korda wide gape for corn, and conversation went like this " mornin, what can i do you for?" me " pack of fox arma size 8 plz) bug ger done it again
salokcinnodrog
I've read a bit of this thread, and seem to have the same thing to say as most others; I have faith in Gamakatsu GP 204's Gardner Muggas Kamasan B175's for floater (and chub) fishing Drennan Super Specialists, and Specimens The Gardner hooks are probably some of the best I have used, and I was put onto them by Richard Gardner himself; although I very rarely follow tackle hype from most manufacturers (especially NOT Korda, don't know why ) I have tested others, and although some are good, (and some bad), I go back to what I KNOW works

newmarket
To be fair, he's hardly likely to tell you to use Fox Arma Points is he Very nice Dal .To be fair to richard though ( and nick , nice bit of name dropping mate ) he used to be a regular poster on here at one time and always struck me as a straight up down to earth fella who did his best to help people out . Pretty much what we all try to do too . In fact it was quite a while before i actually caught on that he was THE richard gardner :) Wonder why he doesnt post any more ? Or moorsey for that matter ? Busy people i expect .... Edited June 4, 2014 by newmarket
salokcinnodrog
Well I was going to keep it quiet, but I queried about the Pro-Carp I heard was being released, and Richard Gardner sent me some to give an honest appraisal of. In the packing were 2 packets of Gardner Muggas in the sizes I use. I was sent those as samples, nice, Thanks, and have bought those products since. By the same token, I have been sent products by other manufacturers, that I found awful, wrote back telling them why, and not heard from since
snowman01
The ace medium curve Shanks made me wet when I saw them, looked the perfect mix between a long curve shank like the arma lcs's and a conventional curve shank. Landed a mid double and lost one too a snag (unfortunately) on them first outing at thorney weir. Found them fairly sharp out of the pack but a couple of strokes with a diamond file and they were silly sticky! Hopefully won't have any dramas with them opening up on a bigger fish. gagnaccarp
didn't see this topic when I posted a month or so ago,i was recommended to use these so I did,the first fish I hooked on them the hook snapped in half ! Ive had a few good fish this year,up to 38 lb,the first fish hooked and it snapped my hook,i was not a happy bunny, I went home and tested them in a vice against a few other well known hooks and they seemed to bend and snap very easily, they went straight in the bin, I will never use them again ! snowman01
EEK..... Think im off to do some destruction testing now! They are quite fine in the wire, I have the size 5's. Will update with my findings. Out of interest would you say you were bullying the fish, ie did you have to keep it away from any snags or weed etc, what tc are your rods, and what size hooks were you using? Atb- Chris. chillfactor
I've heard a few people mention these ace hooks open up. I've been using the avid hooks, and I'm really impressed with them .Strong super sharp out of the pack and no need to keep touching them up with a file , they have remained sharp after a few sessions and fish .
