Just done another 24 on the canal, found a nice clear area so thought I'd put some time in here, a bit of prebaiting etc. What I didn't take into account is that I'm set up under a motorway... safe to say I didn't get much sleep π€£ on a plus note my spot is getting cleared and I caught a tench ππ€£

Wicked post mate π what size pop ups do you use? My mate uses hinges instead of Ronnie's due to the bait being higher, reckons its harder for smaller fish, nuisance species to get hooked on, swears by it lol. I've done really well using big snowman baits over the last couple years, with the bottom baits being between 18 - 24mm, and a pink pop up between 14 - 16mm. I would say my majority of captures were rarely under 20lb. I wonder if it's the size of the bait or the bait being sat up right topped off with a pink pop up is selecting the bigger carp for me? Why is when you think you've got things sussed out another rabbit hole opens π€£π€£ For years I've mainly fished big open ressies, presenting a bait was fairly easy as the bed was mainly silt, with a few hard spots. As I was fishing mainly around 100 yards my thoughts behind it would be that the rig and and several yards of line would be flat on the deck and out the way of the Carp. Never really had an issue. When I started fishing the canal and complex this year it felt like a whole new type of fishing as I was dropping baits in holes of weed, having my line semi slack riding up out over the weed. My head was falling off as I couldn't see how it would it catch with line coming up off the spot, like surely its going to spook the fish offπ€£ my mates take on it who's been fishing there for years was saying I'm over thinking things, the carp are coming out of dense weed, are they really gonna feel the difference between a semi slack line and a strand of weed lol. I still have my suspensions but tbh after I kinda just settled with the idea and continued to fish like that I've started to get through to them when fishing like that π

4 day blank on the canal for me π€£ back to the complex for a couple nights π

Had this one at 29lb 8oz on Tuesday. The session was off to a bad start as I left my buzz bars and alarms at home so just fished them off my cradle π€£ not the end of the world though as i was only fishing for a couple hours. Anyway it nearly pulled the rod off the cradle lol. I caught it from the 4 acre lake on the complex and I believe its same fish as the first carp I had out of there in jan/Feb at 28lb 14oz π here's the one from the beginning of the year Off to the canal in a bit, fishing through to Sunday, will report back if we get any carp on the bank π

22lb 15oz from the canalπ Its been a good crack these last couple weeks, cutting out swims, raking spots, prebaiting from paddle boards π€£ Here's 3 of the Carp from last months hit This is my best one at 24lb really please with these ones as well tho π got the bug for it big time at the moment, I did a quick over nighter last night but unfortunately no carp, only tench and bream π€£

Got to the canal a couple hours ago, just had a bream lol, first night under the stars in ages, feels great. Best of luck to anyone on the bank this weekend π€

Na mate, I'm on a lake with my dad for 24 hours π hopefully back on the canal tomorrow night π

Thanks mate it was a red letter session for me π everything just aligned and I managed to get 3 off the same spot in about 2 hours lol. They were really cool looking fish, dark and some scars, I think the 24 is one of the older ones π 100% best looking fish I've ever caught π

Interesting mate, I'm gonna have a look and see what I can find on it π Just bought a bottle of this Any suggestions on how much to put with a kilo of boilie?
-
Yeah that's the ones mate, I was thinking of the wychwood reels while writing this π€¦ββοΈπ€£ Sadly my only had the one reel in stock so ended up getting a set of fox eos 10000fd reels. Cheap and cheerful tbh, they will do for the river π

Thanks mate, that's deffo some food for thought, I've been thinking of rolling a shelf life bait, had a little look into preservatives but never got round to it, easier just to put them in the freezer π€£ I've seen a few companies are now storing their baits in rock salt as a shelf life. Any thoughts on that? Speaking of salt, seen a couple lads spombing pure rock salt onto a spot, surely there's only so much you can put out before it becomes harmful for them?

Boiling with sugar and water sounds interesting, do you think the boilies take on the sweetness? I remember reading somewhere about using garlic cloves in your boiling water π

This time of year drives me mad mate, it feels like it should go off but it doesn't lol. One of my local lakes they just bask on the top all day, massive groups of them, 30 - 40 fish, chuck a floater out and they ain't even interested π€£ roll on August and September π
-
Anyone used these reels? I'm looking at getting a set for my 9ft scopes. Or does anyone have any suggestions? Don't need anything too big, they are for the river and short range fishing π
-
Sold my 9 footers a few months back because I had no need for them.. just bought a set of 9ft scopes, picking them up tomorrow ππ€£

Helicopter setup with either a wafter or popup. I would use the lightest lead you can get away with. With a heli setup it will pull the lead down into it but will leave your rig above π

My staffy would probably run away from a rat π€£

Small common as I was packing up. Doesn't this time of year drive you mad. Spawning, not spawning, spawning, not spawning π€·ββοΈπ€£ Starting to feel like I'm on the wrong water again, think a long session on the reservoir is in order π

Out for a night or two on a 4 acre lake, it's looking good down in this bay. There's been a few shows in the far margin so boated a rig over to it, then put one down my right margin which is about 10ft away from a air pump thing π

Don't give up mate, you will get one eventually π did you say you have a bait boat? Maybe get a deeper on there and map the lake or as yonny said get the marker out and spend a day or two mapping it with that π I'd be doing laps of the lake with sunnies mate, try and find some clear patches in the margins, small bit of bait and see if they clear it a day or two later π
