Yonny, these look very similar to my Dymags which I believe are also built on a Harrison blank.
It was Terry Edmonds who recommended them to me when I was looking at scopes for pretty much the same reason as SPR.

SPR where are you based? I'm in London on Saturday with not much to do in the day as I'm off out at night. I could head over somewhere and bring the rods as they're in my car currently.

Can you recommend something that packs down to the same length (55") that's one of the biggest attractions for me.... I need to save space and fit stuff in the car more easily

    Don't do it mate!
Any product that advertises itself as "a stripped out ultra light special forces edition" is for children or idiots.
Honestly fella, I don't rate Nash rods one bit. For that money you can get something from a company that actually builds rods rather than gets them made in China.
Nash rods, IMO, are average rods sold at premium prices. There are miles better options out there for the same money.

Sticks are absolutely invaluable to my angling now (not 60 quid invaluable tho....)

I remember it wasn't a million years ago that I wasn't clipping up at all, let alone wrapping up. Funny how times change.

I can't wait to see one of my fishing mates with these Korda jobbies. They won't hear the end of it.

As the two posts above state! I use black skiing Salopets coupled with a fleece and a jacket if needed, a damn site cheaper than carp stuff and I'm always warm

The trendy carp brands don't manufacture clothing. They buy cheap clothing form China, stitch a label onto it, and sell it at a massive profit. It's all tat relative to the price.

I went though loads of winter suits (including a Trakker one and a Chub one - both utter, utter pants) before I learned. They don't keep you warm and they last 2 seasons before they're ready for the bin. They all cost at least £100. It's carp tax of the highest order.

IMO you want to go for stuff that is made by a company that makes clothing for outdoor activities. Think camping, hiking, hunting, work wear or even better, the military suppliers. You can spend as much as you want but it doesn't have to cost a fortune.

I use bait runners but don't engage the drag by turning the handle, I use the switch on the back. That is surely the quickest option?

You've answered your own question there fella. The point in a baitrunner is you don't have to do that.
I agree with chillfactor, it makes little difference if you use a baitrunner or front drag - different mechanism, same result.

Yonny,I think you prefer frozen baits wherever possible, but do you think shelfies are nearly as good as frozen now?

Some baits from various manufacturers are exactly the same recipe from frozen to shelf life, is it just the preserve 'dip' that makes them different?
In fact some bait companies release some baits in a shelf life only. What are your thoughts on these?

Some glugs, like Marine 17 will coat shelfies, as well as frozen.

I haven't been over there since my season on there during my last posts. I do know that the year after a few lads did a deal with one of the rangers to be allowed to fish the nature reserve and moved the ones they caught in to Mill and the North, If my memory serves me right 3 went into Mill and 2  Into North.

There is also a rumour that the bailiff over at the Rotary peed a lot of members off and one of them caught the big'un and moved it into North.....which would match up with a mate that fished North and spotted something large on a few occasions.

But I'd go on Mill still, lovely little lake.Well worth taking your rods.

Personally don't see any difference between the two systems, both are adjustable.
There are some fishing situations where I would let the fish run away from me a bit longer. But thats more about knowing your lake subsurface.

After giving myself a headache reading the EU Vote thread I thought I'd lighten the mood by posting a couple of pics from my recent session in France. This was my first time fishing in France, I'd never been particularly drawn to continental angling. Needless to say that soon changed and I have next years trip booked already......

Korda lines are relatively poor IMO.
Stick with Gardner, they do great lines. The Pro and GT-HD options are really nice lines.
Yes, keep the old line as backing, it's a complete waste of money otherwise.

    They're all absolutely rubbish fella!
On average I go through about 4 a year and believe me when I say I've been through all of them.

    - The ESP lasts quite well but the pouch warps rendering accuracy none existent. Then the elastic goes.
    - The Atomic lasts well but the pouches aint strong enough, they rip along the fibres and seams.
    - Drennan, the elastic aint as good as other carp 'pults, it goes in no time.
    - Fox - DO NOT EVEN GO THERE! If you have one last a whole session you're lucky.
    - Gardner, same as the Drennan, the elastic aint up to proper use.
    - Black Widows do last forever but the pouch isn't suitable for bait (and it's almost impossible to change it).

So the winner is (and I never thought I'd say this).... the Korda heavy duty one. It's pretty average for accuracy and for distance but it does last better than the others. The weak point is where the elastic connects to the pouch and it has cable ties on to hold it in place. These can easily be replaced when they break (and they do) so it lasts quite well. My current one has lasted all season so far which is unheard of for me.

Don't get me wrong, it's still rubbish (I've had to replace the cable ties twice already), but it's still going which is all I ask!

Nah, they'll just think I'm some nut job carp freak playing with hooks in a lab at work. In fairness they'd be about right.
