Traveling to France after brexit (customs check?)
kevtaylor replied to striker18's topic in Fishing in France
I'd like to think that it won't take too long for the EU to notice an enormous reduction in income from UK holiday makers, sure a small minority are straight back on it but the amount of adverts tells it's own tale. They say the customer is always right so I expect them to crack first and lessen restrictions. As for UK syndicates the problem started way before Brexit - far more carp anglers these days and the great videos we all enjoy just highlight all the waters that proper carp anglers have been wanting to fish for years, now known to every-man and his dog - I spoke to a guy on Swan, Bluebell who only started fishing that year after watching the vids, wrong on all levels, whilst I was polite I was shocked, stunned, horrified. -
Traveling to France after brexit (customs check?)

Think we'll see a good few French venues being sold due to the lack of UK custom in 2020/21 and moving into 2022. Never seen so many desperate adverts, whilst UK fisheries thrive move then ever before. Might be a few bargains to be had - watch this space! -
No idea but you can have orders delivered from UK companies OR European ones. Sticky deliver to Italy I've seen it arrive

Nice mate, I've always loved watching the float, who doesn't and they don't spook from a vertical line - seen lots of evidence of that. If I was on the right type of water I would give it a go straight away, always have a couple of floats in the tackle box but my waters are gravel pits that mostly have shallow margins, gradually getting deeper and often have surface weed to 10-20 yards out. Give me a farm pond, float and centrepin and I would be well happy 👍

Oh and only if it's a wholemeal pitta lol - sad times, can't forget that bit 🤣
-
Yes I do use a coated braid for most of my bottom bait ledgering. I can see why you would just incorporate one of your made up rigs for convenience, but equally I can't see why you couldn't just go mono straight through. I'm sure it wouldn't matter either way tbh. Just the old school images in my head of float setups coming through I guess 🤷♂️👍

Yeah that works for me, but obviously with chicken and veg in lol
-
Give it a lot more years and you'll be having grilled chicken and steamed veg on the bank, how I miss the extra fat on a bacon roll days 🤣👍
-
Yeah it is - the obvious change is overall temp warming (global), not that it feels like it this year. The busy day tickets see more pressure when conditions are low pressure, last trip I had boilies washing into my bank so too much is going in big time, could the general warming effect the water quality with so much un-eaten bait (pollution) in the lake? Saying that what you said about the fish showing less in favorable conditions is true to my recent experiences, does low pressure affect oxygen levels?
-
I wouldn't use a hook link, I would go mono straight through and just tie the hook on knotless style. What makes you want a hooklink as per legering is it needed for some reason?

I caught well in December in low pressure conditions, but that's winter. Thinking about this summer I think I've had the best results on normal days such as 13 takes in an overnighter, but the times I've gone because the conditions were bang on i.e. low pressure systems - I've blanked whilst thinking this is gonna be the one. I don't keep a diary but think you could be onto something here - I mean I should always catch lol

My friends face when he had a knock off a perch was a picture, he was shaking, perfect for non anglers to get a feel for it. 🤣

Thanks Ian - had 3 quick goes this week all in different locations, had a small pike and perch, then 2 perch and last night 3 zander. All great fun hoping to get down again tonight it's addictive, got another area to try! 😂👍

How refreshing is it that this is all I need for a bit of drop shot fishing down the canal, got all spares in a little shoulder bag, mat and net clipped on - feels like freedom. Considering I fill my estate car completely for an overnighter carp fishing. Great because I can go for an hour any day after work - who knew tiny perch could get you so excited lol
-
Well he did eat a full chicken carcass out the bin and some other gross stuff in the early years. But now hes older hes got fussy. My daughters puppy is pulling up bulbs and eating those 🤦♂️ Sounds like you've had fun Ian 🤣👍

My dog wouldn't eat that rubbish you've gotta be kidding me. He only eats treats if they are the same brand as his main food lol Fussy isn't the word 🤦♂️

Fluorocarbon for leaders and links
kevtaylor replied to kevtaylor's topic in Carp Fishing Tackle and Equipment
An old friend of mine got the crimp kit - but every time he pulled the rigs afterwards they would snap, thinking he was doing it wrong he went to the stand at a show and they showed him how to do it and passed it him - he pulled it and again it snapped much to their surprise - so is the finished job that great or are they just not being pulled hard enough during testing? It put me right off tbh -

Sound - cheers mate, I've lasted this long with knots, can live without crimping for sure 👍 -
If you're fishing where I think you are - you do know the 43 is loooong gone right, just checking?

Thanks mate - that sounds good stuff - which knot you choosing for leader to mainline? -
Hi - for the visual element I'm looking at fluoro for leaders and hook links. I've got some old Korda and Fox stuff but wondering what's the best people have come across in recent times? I'm hoping some of the new ones are a lot more supple? Cheers 👍

I'm not knocking you at all, don't get that impression - I said I applaud thinking outside the box. There are far too many blind followers these days and without thinkers there would be no progression. I've had many ideas over the years from using powdered clay in baits in spring to various uses of decoy baits and rig tweeks, if I get the bank time to put ideas into action I will tell you about it years later once I've caught everything lol My ideas seem to come to me when I'm trying to get to sleep, mulling over a problem or experience - I have to run for a pen and paper or its gone forever! Seeing the carp head did make me giggle _ I was probably 18 and was catching so many carp on the standard hair rig I didn't need anything technical - this was really ahead of the times - but as far as I know the guy didn't sell lots of them. What you've said about the little tench is very interesting and backs up your line of thinking 👍

Like others I'm a little confused in it being said that they dont get away with it - I mean how would you know? I'm often using the bare multi rig for pop-ups which allegedly shows when ones been pricked as the hook is free to move with any tightening- well that's happened once in 5+ years and I've caught a fair few fish on it - so is that a wonder rig - it seems to nail everything that takes it, but I bet in reality I've been done countless times by takes so gentle it didnt prick itself at all. I met someone 30 odd years ago who'd designed a carps head that sucked in rigs for testing purposes - I laughed it off tbh if it were so good we'd all have them surely. You cant replicate what's going on with a palm test or fake fish head imo but its brilliant to think outside the box so I applaud it. Really just want to see the results compared to other rigs, who's tried it so far and what are the original posters results?
