Send it back mate - if its not right it's not right, you can't be expected to fix a new reel with washers! Shimano has obviously gone down hill a bit with the quality of their reels. My new spod reel ceased up on it's first outing, I got it moving again but really not the point, I have the expectation now that it will happen again mid session, didn't think I would ever be bad mouthing Shimmy but a sign of the times., I should have sent that back but didn't - you've reminded me what a fool I've been.

My daughters first dog, much to my approval a cocker called Max. It's been a while since I trained a dog to be a good fishing companion - maybe it just came with age with mine. Eek its gonna chew my kit, didnt think about the bad stuff! 🤦‍♂️

Carp want to mix genes, escape to waters new. When a lake is about to flood the fish are usually lining up ready to escape. So inquisitive that they can end up dying in drainage ditches etc

It's Neen - although I'm not local I know locals who say Nen isn't a thing at all. I bought the ticket for Ferry Meadows and the Nene last year but never went lol - bit of a waste of money on my part 🤦‍♂️

I don't think you can go wrong with carp porter stuff tbh - I've also got the food bag that fits on the front bar, another great bit of kit.

Got the Mk2 Wideboy had it for a long time, no issues with it - only had to buy a new wheel for it after many years of use, pretty sure the new one is puncture proof from memory but could be wrong, cost about 50 quid. I'll probably upgrade for a power porter at some point in the future.

Fair enough - I'm using the Fox Ecocet at the moment, a casting line - think it's in 18lb could be wrong - no complaints so far. I was using 20lb Sensor on another water and noticed that it casted like a pig compared to the same in 15lb. For out and out casting they say go for lighter line and a shock leader. My old rods were 3lb 12 footers, they soon lost their backbone casting 3.5 oz leads - the cheap blanks were just stinky winky - so IMO the rod is the most important factor.

Seems to me that if your just about getting there with your current setup and technique, just drop the mainline to 12 or 15, why do you need 20lb? or go on braid as suggested above.

Northey Park doesn't allow dogs apparently, although there are videos with a well known angler with his dog on there - seems it depends who you are. The owner didn't like me pointing that out lol - I didn't make his waiting list 😁

Mine was about 8 months old I think - I don't like going without him, but it takes about 95% of venues off your list of possibles. Nearly all of the waters I have inquired about do not allow dogs! I had 2 A4 sheets of venues to check out and only a very small number allowed dogs - it's an eye opener! You might find it better not to go down that route?

Pretty standard here for us to catch nothing but commons at certain times of the year, cant remember whether its pre or post spawning but on waters I've fished nobody caught anything but commons for weeks,all mid sized fish, not the whackers - probably all males..

I use a blow back rig with ring as my first choice, been using it for 20 odd years, if it ain't broke! I've landed quite a few where they have blown the ring right over the hook eye onto the hook length - seemingly impossible because you cannot get it to go back over again, you have to scrap the rig and start again. Just shows the force they can blow with and that's why the rig works a treat. I strip the last 5 mil for free movement.

Got the AVID Ascent 2 man bivvy - its a decent bit of kit, masses of room for 2 beds, you can actually get 3 in no doubt (I have). With 2 beds pushed to the sides there's a massive gap in the middle. I like the inner lining which you leave in, works a treat, outer fabric is top notch. I also have the Ascent Brolley Mk1 - fabric on that is unbeatable - proper quality. No complaints - AVID gear is the business.

Look like normal Common Carp to me - definitely not Crusians as their fins are convex (outwardly curved) not concave like you see in the middle picture. They could be a match type hybred F1 or whatever they are called which are stunted in growth.

I've got nowhere to go carp fishing, everywhere is an hours drive minimum for me so too far unfortunately and most are closed anyway. A canal Perch if you're lucky - I should move down south tbh Good luck to those doing a bit 👍
