  1. Iv used the cool box method, soak for over 24 hrs empty most of the water out then kettles of hot water cover with a old mat to keep the heat in. Id leave it for at least 48hrs. Keep a little water back for mixing with my ground bait for bream fishing
  2. I was on a lake in France bite time was 6pm-6 am then I would bring the rods in and bait up then a cup of proper coffee and set off with a light spinning rod. I was returning a jack when Madam the owner of the complex came running out of the mist waving her arms cursing in French and could have been a bit of Italian mixed in shouting Nonnnnnnnnn !!! ‘Non fishing English style! I replied in perfect broken French sign language that I wasn’t English but Welsh pointing at the Welsh flag high above my bivvy The good Madam disappeared back into the mist shaking her head and still cursing. We later agreed a bottle of her homemade wine for a jack... The wine was delicious.
  3. I tried spider wire and could not get on with its waxy finish and stiffness went straight in the bin. 🙄
  4. I can vaguely remember an article in one of the monthly carp mags going back a bit and it showed a pic of a good size carp on a mat that brought up a couple of silver fish... I kid you not.
  5. Got the above off the bay looking forward to reading it and this from Eric which Iv read but from way back and enjoyed
  6. That sounds like a feast for a king Elmo ... good luck 👍
  7. I use to trim down the wires so they wouldn’t bend as much.
  8. Grip leads sea anglers use them £1 ish each wrap elastic bands around the wires or use tape.
  9. I use braid without a shock leader. But when I used to sea fish a lot it was 4 turns on the spool ,length of rod and down to the joint anymore and the leader knot would be covered and that causes problems. Large clip with a bit of silicon sleeve over the knot to protect it when I use it for a marker rod and for a quick change If I needed to go to a smaller or bigger spomb
  10. How far you going to spod ?
  11. Look forward to the pic of you holding it mate 👍
  12. That’s a funky colour looking carp looks blue grey from here ??
  13. Could be looking for a fish shop
  14. Same as me il be lost without my phone, I had a pic of the big Common in Oxlease for years would always have a look at her till I had her out. For the last 10 years or so every swim Iv fished the distances to hard spots, gavel weed beds and the fish Iv had also weather conditions bait i us and what other anglers around me were doing Iv recorded. I fish day ticket waters the linear complex a favourite. The carp Society’s horseshoe lake beat me up a bit tho 🙄 .... but one thing I never do is give up. The trip is not over till you pull the last rod in, and then you can still ask other anglers how they got on. When I fish with the lads and they ask what my tactics are I say to catch a fish Lol.
  15. Fish it in the winter hopefully the weed would have died down by then less anglers to.
  16. Don’t forget the seasick tablets.... and flares 😉
  17. I still miss my spaniel Tina from 40 odd years ago. Thought this pic would put a smile on your face
  18. Try pulling your hook length through a small pva bag of stick mix it would protect your hook when you pull and give you time to straighten the rig. Sounds like it’s a shallow water ? Feather the line before the rig hits the water which would help with the plunging of the lead weight. Good luck 👍
  19. The 3.25 is my marker and spod rod the other 3 are my carp rods. I also take a feeder rod and a small 6 ft spinner rod. .... you just don’t know when your going to need a particular rod
  20. I did mark the tips but after 15+ years of heavy use they kinda faded
  21. I tried to buy this guy but it wasn’t going to happen
  22. When cleaning my 4 cork handles i put the tips to one side and forgot one of them is a 3/25 tip the other 3 are 3lb looking at the tips I can’t tell them apart 🙄without going to the expense of buying a micrometer gauge any other ideas. ?
