Anyone on the rivers??
jh92 reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
I'm going to start looking for fish along the river, but will definitely include some chub floater fishing. I didn't even walk the river this close season, I spent non working days on my syndicate fishing.1 point -
Good luck mate ππ. I'm chewing at the bit to get on the bank but I've got horrible thing called work in the way.π1 point

well don't look like waddie is coming to mine he is in a home but got a bit bitey, not his fault he ate one of his toys and had to have it removed keeping him from opening his wound stressed him out and someone took a licken, not really for me but it sounds like they are not sure if they want to rehome him or not, plus i think it may be a strong sheep dog line mixed with a few other dogs from that part of the world.1 point -
Much like my Labrador then?.ππ€ Thanks for the reply. Iv haven't managed to get to much time on the bank and have a 48hr coming up and was looking at how to best maximise my chance. I have seen a lot of videos lately with the anglers using smaller boilies in their mix and thought there was potentially a reason for this. Thanks1 point

I know a chap that always fishes an 18 mm hookbait over little 10 mm baits. He does well. Carp cannot become full buddy. They have a digestive tract rather than a stomach. It all passes straight through them. I personally think guys overthink bait size. A good bait is a good bait and if you can create a feeding situation you'll catch fish. I'm not fussy about freebie size and only drop hookbait size if I'm fishing over small baits intended to compete with naturals.1 point

so i kind of have half an eye on a rescue dog from Oman in the middle east, he is a one year old wadi dog proper street dog they are said to be really nice dogs the one in rescue is pure black and has a real Persian look to him, they get treated real bad over there, some say they are one of the oldest domestic dogs in history, i know the people from that part of the world are brick scarred of them, think it's ex pats that rescue them and send them over. not looking for a carp dog though so he would have to behave at home when I'm not there.1 point -
Good luck mate, I hope your plan comes together and you catch a chunky river carp.πππ£1 point

I think some areas will be mate .... well pebbles anyway , came across what was probably an old river bed . Good 1- 2 ft thick , I don't reckon it will take carp long to seek that out once the lake bed softens π1 point -

Can you get worse
Carpmaster reacted to elmoputney for a topic
I've been having a slightly lean spell lately, I have changed baits about 10 times in my head including looking into all the required equipment to make my own, like a boilie roller set up, basemixes, ingredients and all sorts π Then the other day I went to have a look round and do a bit of hole filling, I had a bucket of pellets with me and ended up feeding quite a few big carp at about 5 yards out,and they were chomping, then I remembered its not the bait, that works in the right spot, my rigs do work usually it's always about the location, and putting it all in the right place at the right time π³1 point -
This thread definitely hits a note with me. I returned to fishing around 18 months ago after a 40+ year break! As a teenager I was pretty competent, but heck things have changed (we used to put bait on a hook, rigs were things our North Sea oil came from!). Back in the day we'd fish for anything, including carp. This time around I have dedicated my time just to carp. I am very fortunate insofar as I retired 12 months ago and so can get out mid-week (in fact I make a point of never going over a weekend as I think that's unfair on the anglers who work through the week). I have absorbed as much as I can through reading, YouTube, and a couple of lessonsβone each from two different 'carp fishing gods' (in my mind anyway). A few observations from all of that: Keep it simple. I was horribly confused by all the stuff about rigs. I genuinely thought I needed to learn to tie hundreds of different types and then try and work out which to use in any given situation. I have cut right back to just a couple. The YouTube videos are great entertainment but probably create unrealistic expectations. They are (usually) heavily edited to make them interesting. Who wants to watch [insert name here] famous angler blank? The pros blank too, we just don't see it. Early on in my reintroduction to the sport I fished a runs water (didn't know that's what it was or that they existed). Very soon the initial fun of hauling out fish soon wore off and it became a bit dull. Since then I made a decision to fish harder waters and now feel a real thrill when I catch. I have come to understand my own aspirations better. My professional life was just stress on steroids. After 40+ years of that I don't want my hobby to be the same. Fishing, for me, I have realised is not just hauling out fish. It's being in the countryside, camping out, getting great quality sleep, rest, etc. If I start worrying about catch rate, rigs, am I doing it right, etc. I might just as well 'un-retire', go back to work again and get paid! I'm doing this for fun and relaxation. I'm still trying my hardest, just not beating myself up when I blank. The last lesson I had with a pro was especially illuminating. I told him which syndicate I'd joined and it was one he was familiar with. He told me I was very lucky to have got in, that it has some very beautiful, very old (and big) carp, but that they are exceedingly wary. It's also a low stocked water. He said I should set my expectation that five fish in my fist season (whilst learning the lake and its fishes' habits) would be a good result. I'm happy with that. I will enjoy nature, enjoy learning the new skills and chill. So I guess to the OP my advice is, as someone else has said, see this insane hobby for what it isβit's 'fishing', not 'catching'. It's nice when they both come together but one isn't necessary (or guaranteed) for the other to be enjoyable. And you are probably doing nothing wrong!1 point

Collagen protein powder?
Carpmaster reacted to jimmy_c for a topic
it's meant to be an excellent protein source for humans, repairs skin cartilage and the gut too, i take it myself and have often thought it would be great in a carp bait, wouldn't be surprised if some bait companies have been using it and keeping it under there hat1 point -

Not used it personally, if it looks anything like this stuff then you should be good to go, looks like its best used at low levels though. Have listened to a couple of things about bovine and its attractivness for carp. https://www.feedstim.com/amino-acids/l-proline-46.html1 point
