Are we Happy?
crusian and 2 others reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
No point in being unhappy, it doesn't get you anywhere, says the person who can suffer from severe depressionππ Single, reckon most of the time that is better for me. Work, surviving, got a few things on the burner, one of which could see me at my last place of work, even if it is a step down in responsibility, but possibly going onwards and upwards again. Friends, that is good, related to fishing, a long time fishing buddy and I got into the syndicate we both wanted. I was able to repay a long time favour. Years ago when I was struggling he lent me the money to join Earith, which he allowed me to pay back over time, think it took me 18months for Β£300. This year as he is self employed and not earning until the end of August, I was able to pay his syndicate fees, which I'm not in any hurry for, when it comes it come, if it does. (Not being funny, but I am not worried if he doesn't pay it back). Fishing, I do have to wait until 1st September to get carp fishing on the syndicate, but I have been looking at the Wensum, and keeping in touch with a couple of big barbel areas. Like Elmo I find this coronavirus rationale boring, along with the disagreements mask or no mask, lockdown or freedom. You make a point and keyboard warriors are looking to cause trouble. I have had to work with it. Hygiene has been a way of life, tissue or napkin over face when sneezing or coughing, washing hands after binning said tissue, before serving every customer, in the restaurant or bar, social distancing in the restaurant and bar.3 points -

Fishing and home all fine, Tbh my lake isn't that busy so it's fine by me, just don't tell them that shhhh Work trying to stay positive but it does seem draining with all the redundancy and losing all my old colleagues, but I still find I can chat and have a laugh at times, in some ways it's good as we are all having to knuckle down and get on with it as we still have work to do, The old virus does my swede In still though, would rather we could all just agree to stay safe, bored of all it seems to bring, bored of all the talk of being sheep for wearing a mask and the its all lies chat on Facebook, but the main thing I find worrying is people's inability to disagree with dignity and rationality, people just use generic terms to pigeonhole each other Into being on a side, I think this is unsettling, people used to disagree and still be friends now we seem to have loads of keyboard extremists and no middle ground, I'm also finding this with fb fishing groups So am I happy lol, I'm still taking the meds but doing OK π3 points -

It seems pretty safe to assume that they will be spending most of the time hiding in the most dense areas of weed. Can you locate the most likely areas, study them for signs and come up with an approach to fish where they are spending the majority of their time? If everyone fishes the few clear areas they are likely to dry up on the action front.3 points -
And as hard as it to admit sometimes that's the truth. I've been there, we've probably all been there at some point. Its bait, it's this, it's that, when its us.3 points

I had a similar thing, when mine were little, very stressful times, it's a big change I wouldn't have dealt with it at 22, I was older and I still struggled π Wouldn't change it now though, just had it confirmed we are having a family fishing day next week, the kids are going to smash those rudd π£π£ππ2 points -

I have tried to keep it simple, I just don't think anyone noticed π my standard answer to myself now when I start to worry about rigs, bait or anything is? Rigs will work, bait works, you just fishing like a noddy boy π seems to work for me these days π2 points -
Hi all, Just a general question... Are we Happy at the moment in time with the fishng at the busiest it has ever been? Personally, I am in all aspects of life, Home, Work, Hobbys, Friends, Marriage. Fishing could be better but that's because too many people have decided to take the sport up as it was the 1st sport to be granted. What are other peoples thoughts? Come October when the cold sets in, we will see a decline in Anglers. BUT.... We have to be careful as come November whispers tell me a 2nd Wave (Virus) could be here, even until March.1 point

I still can't help looking at bait companies websites to see what I am missing lol but I've learnt to just look π Its funny though but nowadays I think it is relatively simple, you get a decent bait in the right spot, with the right rig to suit your baiting approach/conditions and hopefully you will catch one at some point, if you get the timing right and they want to feed and happen to slip up while your there great π I am not often that right and it rarely goes the way I think it will, but I'm focusing on the more important stuff like Location and accuracy and creating the right feeding situation rather than what rig, bait, set up will work best, I know my hooks are sharp and my rigs present well enough and should reset, that takes a lot of the headaches away and I can actually sit back and relax and enjoy my hobby even if I am blanking π1 point -

It was a life changer at that age, 10yr old now thinks he's 21.... I've been off 3 days this week, all chores done. Little en at a weekend footy tournament (how is beyond me). I'm out fishing with the dog... But in 2 weeks time I'm off fora whole week and I've suggested to the wife to all do a night, but that was shot done like a lead balloon, so I be on my own. Thi ki g going cudmore on George's Lake?. Little en loves his cocky bashing on maggots... Thi k he had over 100 perch n Roach in 1 day.1 point -
Honesty is the best policy. May sound daft..but think my crisis came when I was 22, got house, little en was born, reality started then and when he was about 6month old... I left for 2 weeks, now I just talk to the wife about anything regardless how small. Overall now, happy as Larry (whoever he is) Hope everyone else doing well/good.1 point

Totally agree with you on this one Nick, I am much the same but I think it's important to try and be happy, I also think it's important to be able to talk about it when you aren't, had a small moment today where I felt like a panic attack was brewing all morning, I had a meeting with my boss, she is a buddy and we get on but I just said can I put the air con on I feel like a panic attack is brewing, just being able to share that calmed me down and I could get on with it again, being honest really is the key for me, Hope your doing well carries on for you π1 point -

Appreciate your advice buzzbomb, Yes ground bait is allowed, as to a place, working on that. I believe fishing the river for my self in currents just comes more natural for me, I have been casting out lines in them for over 30 years. I enjoy the challenge of the lakes because I am able to use different rigs such as Chod rigs and pva bags. Locating the Carp is a game of stalking and a keen eye. I learned that the hard way and believed I could just cast out anywhere. All in all its a wonderful adventure every time I go out. Until next time. Photo is my River hot spot, very difficult to fish due to the solid jagged rock, steep bank, you don't want to trip for sure. Have a Matt in the water and a second Matt further up to protect the fish. Knee pads are a must, At times its difficult keeping those two rods in the water here with proper baiting.1 point

Can't you spend a day or 2 just plumbing swims? My first task on any new lake is to plumb swims. Obviously not all but ones that cover areas of the lake so if the fish are there you can hopefully drop into said swim, wrap the rods up and drop onto spots with minimal fuss and disturbance. So when you turn up it's a matter of just finding the fish and not then raking or plumbing swims. Obviously if you can't get into one of your plumbed swims then a bit of work will need doing. If your lake is small enough then do every swim or a spare evening plumb swims you've not done. I know all this takes time but it saves time in the long run.1 point -

I caught one on my first session on a spot that I had to fish over lily pads that hadn't come up, I had to get it Bob on otherwise it wouldnt want to return, wasn't so far out though furthest I've had to fish here so far was just over 80 yards and that took a few goes π it was much easier then though without the pads not sure why more people don't like fishing in winter and early spring π I think when I know the spot and how it should be, I find I won't be happy unless it's right, hopefully I can do a recce trip next week as I am on holiday and see if I can't get something started Thanks for the Input everyone1 point -
Its been a good year, gained a lot of knowledge and have been able to get some new reels and gear. I haven't picked up a catfish rod since my first post of wanting to give up. Carp fishing is a skill in my opinion, I totally agree with the previous post. More than just baiting a hook. I have been fishing a couple of lakes and have found them to be more challenging than fishing the river. Enjoying it and have learned to use chod rigs and PVA bags at the lakes with some good success. Took time to learn and have confidence in my rigs. My advice to any one just getting started is don't become discouraged , it just takes patience and some time to learn. I'm still learning and know I have only scratched the surface. Vacation is just around the corner, going to Dale Hollow lake and hope to land my first Mirror Carp. Yes I'm having Fun.1 point

I did some googling after this and high temp does seem to be bad. This Thursday it looks like it'll be high 20s around Farlows where I'm going. Unfortunately the bait is brought and I'm committed as the next time I'm free to go is September. I decided I'd rather go and blank than not have gone at all. I'll probably regret that when I'm a red sweating mess on Thursday with no fish :). Ah well worst things than been out in the sun. Maybe I'll even be lucky and get one or two.1 point -

Pepperami Good Carp Bait Or Not ?
Pete Springate's Guns reacted to sir axeman for a topic
I used to use it quite a few years ago on a water where boilies were banned....and it worked very well. I also used cheese to similar effect. I used it recently on a couple of occasions but to no success...but I do have a lot of confidence in it from the past where it worked very well. I used the regular green packet version...used to get the wideboy version it not seen that or know if they still even do it anymore...was just a thicker version of the same stuff. Of coarse you can't put a lot of it in due to cost...so I used to use it on stringers and was a boilies in when nobody was near or looking. One time on said bookie banned water some matchman type came running round n said "hey what was you firing in there? " pepperami I said showing him my opened packet. ππlater on once they knew I was the carp man with the pepperami i went onto cylinder shaped fishmeals boilies. And pushed the boilie sausages into used pepperami packets....and would cut it off as if it was pepperami from a pepperami packet. To anti carp anglers aka matchmen it was very easy to fool them. Oh the find memories I have if that water.... ππ€£1 point -
30+ degrees will make it very difficult on the vast majority of waters, simple fact buddy.0 points
