  3. I've just decided I may have some opportunities to do some more stalking this year, it's about time the old 6ft greys stalker rod came out to play again, i need a nice small reel for it I think, but could be nice to walk round for a couple of hours before work seeking some close up and personal action, more of that peeking through bushes action will be splendid I think

  4. Sounds like they can be set up sensitive enough that a polish guy snoring two pegs down could set them off.

    1st Zander

Well after 2 winters talking about zander fishing on Rutland we finally did it with just a week to go before close season. It was a very calm day which was good as it was my first time in a boat over very deep water, but you soon forget any nerves once the rods are out. For the first few hours we tried the vertical jigs, but with almost no drift it seemed a dead loss and I started feeling the cold and a bit like captain noddy! Late morning we travelled round a corner to a slight bay and tried the pike lures and vertical jigs again, no joy. We ate lunch then had another go before heading back to the initial area for the final couple of hours. This next go over the central ground was different as we had a light breeze and slight tow and straight away you knew that you had better presentation. On our 2nd drift I got a bang on the vertical jig whilst looking the other way, I couldn't believe it, then another bang so I hit it and slowly pulled it up, felt like a pike or decent zander and I was made up when a 5-6lb Zed hit the surface - that's a first for me! On the next drift my mate had a bang on his sleeper rod, then another and he lifted into another Zed, this one went 7 1/2 and was a PB - so a great day overall, brilliant to catch on a method you've not done before - can't wait to go again next year.

  6. I was sorting a cupboard out and found some old pics. One made me chuckle as if I'd not had the picture no one would believe it. It's not super imposed as one mate reckoned. The pigeon was a racing pigeon that landed in front of my mates bivvy and was obviously very tame. My mate took it home in the end and it flew off the next day. Anyone else got pics of things you didn't expect to see on the bank?

    Glug glug glug

I tried sweetcorn goo for a while when they first came out. No luck. My preffered dip is Betalin, lovely sweet flavouring. done me a few fish, had my only fish out the car park on it, so I'm fairly confident it works. I agree with the above comments, not much point in glugging freebies, it's the hook ait I want to make more attractive. Seems logical, that's why I've applied it to my fishing.

  8. No shortage of headroom in the 2-man, 1900mm, 6ft 2". I'd struggle to justify paying a grand for a bivvy, although they do seem well thought out. Ian.

Probably said it before but I spray all my Wafter & Pop Ups with the dedicated bait sprays to match....BUT this morning I've put 1 Sticky Pineapple Wafter with dedicated Spray (left) and another (right) Sticky Pineapple Wafter but this is (coated) Glugged in Pineapple Korda Goo... So far I've had more interest and an aborted take on the Glugged bait πŸ€”πŸ€”...both fished at same range and spread about 3 rods apart...

  12. Long term planning then, Phil. Makes sense. When are we going fishing together? It's been too long, mate. Ian.

  13. I'll get the sticks out if there's anything really interesting... or leave a marker out before we fill it up . Will be pretty uniformed tbh though. Makes netting a lot easier in the future.

  15. Hopefully start a project with a mate that will see fishing local to me again , after everything local to me was wiped out by otters . Probably end up as a little syndi. Got to be dug first though! Good luck all for the season ahead & look forward to seeing the catches start rolling in 😎
