  1. Well im on the alternative rig, most anglers are like you say ronnie, spinner and slip D, i have gone back to full on Choddy, light lead with lead free leader and blatent pop up , i had a eureka moment and realised the lake is perfect for chod rig, and now im getting the odd take, plus im happy with my bait choice i think its a matter of time before i get a few out of main lake
  2. Setting myself up for a slap here having just got 10ft 3.5lb rods, TBH i was hoping they would be on the soft side of 3.5 but they are not, i wont be keeping them any time but if i do happen to hook a carp it will be played with care, like a few have said its getting hard to get what you really would like unless willing to pay a huge price TBH i have a lovely set of 11ft 2.5lb rods that i was told "too soft" i think i will be going back to these rods
  3. Im in a better place regarding the lake and the blanks, yes every blank session is a learning session, and i have tweaked my tactics and bait, to a point where i am getting odd half hearted takes, maybe nuisance fish but things are improving, thing is at 3 1/2 acres and heavy stock it should be a pretty easy venue, but i do enjoy being at the lake even if i dont catch
  4. My new Rod Hutchinson Sceptre 10ft 3.5lb rods arrived today lovely looking bit of kit but maybe a bit to stiff for my fishing needs, would of been better if they did them in 10ft 3lb option, will just have to see how i get on with them, google image as i have put them away
  5. Thats the good thing about Brookfoot lake birds are not really a problem, got a few Canada geese on the lake and islands at mo but they are just noisy feckers
  6. Thought i should post the pic of the rods prior to breaking the tip of one, BTW had a repky from Wychwood asking me to take broken rod to local dealer for them to send it back and let them see if it was poor workmanship that caused it but i have repaired it so not going back, i have instead ordered a pair of Rod Hutchinson 10ft rods and will sell on the 9ft Wychwoods
  7. Well said mate, good words of wisdom, its odd i used to fish this lake way back and felt i knew the lake but just seems every session is a new learning curve, will stick with it
  8. I am having a bit of an issue with getting new rods, the lake i am fishing is proving to be dam near impossible to catch a carp, been at it since october and so far nothing and spent a small fortune on replacing my gear/new end tackle and so on, but there is the smaller pool on the complex that has plenty of fish and are catchable! Starting to feel like i should just call it a day on big lake and stick to small pool, and stop spending on all this gear, that said the Hutchy Sceptre rods are very well priced, decisions decisions
  9. really dont want 12 footers mate, im geared up for shorter rods with my little pit reels
  10. found some reviews on google seems very good rods with top customer service but a few tales of the cork handles being a bit poor
  11. Having had an issue with my wychwood rods i am considering getting the title rods 10ft 3lb , so are these rods worth getting, cant really find any reviews on them
  12. B B many thanks for the great "Tip" i decided to have a go and it worked, if wychwood do send a new top section i will keep the repaired section as spare
  13. Not the pic i wanted to post went fishing today and managed to snap the tip on one of my Wychwood 9ft rods, it was in the velcro rod retainer on front of shelter and i went to rebait, hook caught my fleece as i turned and snapped tip, clutch on reel was set really light, i am now sort of out of action as i have emailed wychwood to see if they can provide a new tip section
  14. tie a longer loop so you only pull the loop and not the knot through the bait
  15. Finally broke my record long blank and hooked and landed a lovely 12lb common today, while playing it i kept it up in the top layers and it looked a right belter, thought it may go 16lb plus but seems not, good to get a fish, no pic as no one to do the honours
  16. 20lb on stiff link
  17. I used to fish Linear maybe 16 years ago, it would be a long drive from west yorks, last time we went we rang a day before and told plenty of room, rang on the morning still told plenty of room so drove down only to find it rammed out, anglers sat waiting for people to pack up, never been back since
  18. gone back on chod rigs i went for 15lb mouth trap
  19. As an update so i ordered Gardner stiff link and just not getting on with it, so now ordered Korda mouth trap, hope i get on better with that
  20. A new common has been added to local water and its a beaut, i really want to get that fish, and would name it if i am first to get it maybe something like Maize
  21. I ended up sending a message and they insisted on full refund so all good
  22. okay its Warwick baits, not gonna complain as the main man has been through a bad patch this last 6 weeks, and he dont need whinging winnie going on at him, will put it down to experience but will look for a different product from a different comany
  23. Don't want to name the bait, maybe they will produce and they not in tackle shops
  24. So i am known for trying to do things on a budget, buying the less well known kit for a lower price, i decided to go over to single hookbait pop ups and ended up ordering 2 tubs of 15mm pop ups from a well known name, sweetcorn and a nut based, these were not cheap at £24.40 posted, they arrived today and 1st thing they are not 15mm more like 12-13mm the nut based smell like damp mould, and very hard to say what the sweetcorn smell of, part tempted to see if i can return them but guess i have to just stash them in a corner or something and buy more soddin pop ups but from a lower priced outfit, out of respect i wont name the brand
