  1. Never had any luck on Nash bait but then never have much lick on any bait lol, but sorry to see an iconic brand leaving the market
  2. Fished local small lake today for 4 hours just a short sess, blanked as usual but saving myself for a club match on same pond, no keepnets just biggest fish wins really looking forward to this event in 2 weeks, also today i used the new cheap shakespeare aspect 1.5lb 11ft rod and despite it arriving a little bashed it may well prove to be a nice rod for small waters/small fish
  3. good spot but that is a feeder rod im looking out for 10 or 11ft sundridge light carp rod, and a mate has 4 of them and does not use them, i may end up having to go for a modern rod also considering getting another cane rod made by the chap that did my 8ft
  4. Ordered a Shakespeare Aspect 11ft 1.5lb tc rod from err.....go outdoors not overly impressed as it arrived with 2 bent rod rings and some compression gouges on the eva grips despite being posted in a strong carboard tube, but i will use it as its only for small lake with carp to mid doubles and rod only cost £25, it will tide me over till i find something nice like a mint Sundridge vitesse 11ft
  5. Give it a go, maybe a bit old school in this modern world but no reason for it not to work
  6. was a bream not eel though both as snotty as can be, was on a barbel rod not carp rod...........not caught an eel in like 40 years
  7. Decided to fish the little pond for next couple of months due to mass of week and constant closures on main lake, did a cheeky early 4 hour session this morning but sadly the carp were not having it, ended up with a 2lb snotty
  8. Got of my backside and went in loft got the mint Diawa 12 foot twin tip Pro Barbel rod out and as a nice bonus found my long lost Leeda Zoo creature carp feeder rod
  9. i cant comment on the wychwood reels, only ones i ever owned were not great, early rogue big pits i have a pair of these small pit reels and so far very happy with them, i use them on my 10ft rods https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/405453475110?_skw=dam+darkside&itmmeta=01JZD1PA4F0B6F0Q9BP3583BCT&hash=item5e66e90d26:g:yx0AAOSwZU9ndsGR&itmprp=enc%3AAQAKAAAA0FkggFvd1GGDu0w3yXCmi1dzYSzeRr28Lc5ULn2X0VYSN8b8oitw0K1rCgaWw4liokTyLRFYwX6XaIPIyCh2H5AKuYEs8liWVEPqcSmHT7S32tL%2BIpDXUAoB1PHfNZ6sTOROZ1ub%2BFFBY30LcxYrguX1jPYyOey7eIWsewwCkc7ASU8GjDUPbx0qYcay4UQzLHROUG8xwpf49qLJ1CqNRxFxGoMDiSG0ceS5VSQBsHdHZPo%2BIUqW%2BMMAxyMb1Ps5irKwm6MoGKDH2JjO5PczVy8%3D|tkp%3ABk9SR7ai2aH7ZQ
  10. Thanks but i dont think i will replace the broken rod, i do have a second one, these were purchased maybe 15 years ago as what i called "My retirement rods" for when i found time to fish again, the really good thing about the rod is it will happily float fish with a stick float and 7lb line, or cast a 1.5 ounce lead and boilie a good distance, i guess this is the issue with Carbon compared to glass fibre, Carbon is more prone to snapping. I still have my 11ft glass fibre rods so may start using one of them on small pond but just with bottom bait set up
  11. Shock horror i managed to winkle out a little carp from the smaller pond, i was fishing mainly a bunch of maggots on size 10 hook with 10ft Diawa spinning rod and small freespool reel caught an Ide about 1.75lb, then a snotty (the Ide was a new species for me) i was just packing up and went to switch of bite alarm when it sounded a full on run, landed this nice little mirror just under 10lb but sadly the rod snapped for an unknown reason, might just be its age
  12. Its time to move on to a different rod TBH some pretty big carp in little pond up to high doubles better to use a barbel rod or light carp rod in there
  13. odd one today, fishing small pond and hooked a sub 10lb mirror carp, steady fight soon in the net, fish on the unhooking mat and top section of rod had snapped, this was not a carp rod but a Diawa Proteus 10ft spinning rod rated to 100g casting weight, had loads of carp to mid doubles on these rods, have to wonder had rod been damaged in the past causing the break, rod is now fit for bin, cant see me getting a new top section as not been produced for a good few years
  14. Been making do with a folding camping chair since i came back to fishing, but fished yesterday and was so tired kept thinking need a recliner to snooze in mentioned to my mate on the lake Smithy and he sold me his JRC recliner chair in mint condition for 40 notes ideal
  15. This might be a good one to look at https://www.total-fishing-tackle.com/allcock-avon-specialist-11ft-3in-20-40g-rod
  16. As i no longer bivvy up i dont have the bivvy/rats problem, have to say on the lake i fish i have not seen a single Roland, but the fishery is tolerant to Mink, for the rat control reason and it seems to work
  17. Im pretty much not fishing June, carp are spawning on both lakes not right to go after them and main lake shut for spawning
  18. Cant say i really make mistakes other than fishing this ruddy club lake that i used to fish and thought i new how to get a few out, but not really got a lot of choice so have to stick with endless blanks and dont help doing days only rather than sessions but night tickets are a long wait and i dont have bivvy and stuff no more
  19. I got a really nice beanie mat then a week later the club announced we had to have walled mats i went for the NGT XL walled job, but have to say i dont like the size it packs down to, very bulky, but i guess its good for the carp i never catch
  20. For time being i am gonna stick to margins or back bay, the bay is shaded a lot so the weed dont make a lot of progress in there, may get a rake to clear some close in spots
  21. Sounds like margins are gonna be the best bet, and the back bay as the canadian is making main body of lake darn near impossible unless you have a fancy winch camera to visibly find that little clear patch
  22. Yes margins mainly start at at least 3-4ft depth
  23. I have taken on board all the helpful comments on here, i will say last session there was a peg i really wanted to fish, i knew i could place both baits on clear spots, but wife said it would be cold as its in shade! I will knock up some Ronnie rigs and see how i get on next time out, might take the boat and put a bit of bait over each rod also take more time to try and find some clear spots
  24. fish range from about 12lb as smallest to about mid 30`s. i usually put a small mesh bag on tried a session with lobworms on a korda maggot clip, still blanked
  25. Some more info on this place A bailiff told me Ronnie rig with small 12mm pop up and just a a small amount of freebies (6-12 boilies) around said hookbait but cant help thin that 90% of anglers are using and suggesting Ronnie as its the "Vogue" rig this year. The lake bed is littered with rocks/bricks/building rubble , very snaggy, this was caused many years ago when the put the 3 islands in, so fishing close to the islands is a good way to snag up and go out in the boat to free up Canadian pondweed is rife, its really hard to find a spot to fish due to the weed, clear patches are few and far between. As for getting a Deeper, sorry but thats a £200 spend on yet more kit, feels like throwing good money after bad at this stage! The lake is long with the islands mid point from most of the margins depth starts at around 3ft, soon drops to about 6-7ft then hits an "underwater channel that runs round most of main body going down to 12-14ft before getting to what they call the "road" running out to and intersecting the islands and that is about 6ft deep, but with lots of snags either side of the road, the lake has an inlet from larger Ski lake and an outflow into local canal, the inlet flows into the back bay that is less snaggy, a bit more shallow and less weedy I have put a pic up the red line sort of gives an idea of the deeper channel that runs round main body, the green lines show whats called the road
