  1. dont go near it! http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=40970&highlight=leadcore
  2. its a lasso knot, form a loop, then make a smaller loop inside the big one and wind a tag end around both loops 4 turns
  3. well said sir, a while back we had a situation where a member posted a comment about a product that he knew nothing about
  4. have heard a good few comments on here about korda hooks and not all good, so i wont use the product as its a vital link between you and a prize fish! regards tying the knotless knot, there is a correct way to wind the turns around the shank of a hook, but really sounds like the hooks you had were duff if you want tough but expensive hooks try esp raptors
  5. just maybe the main problem with leadcore could be that to many inexperienced anglers used the stuff, doing stunts like gluing lead clip rubbers in place and fixing beads tight to the leadcore, and as a result they have given the product a very bad name, i have had it kink and also the lead has snapped, poking out through the outer core, much as i like the presentation it can give i wont risk using it now
  6. http://www.jfonline.co.uk/knots_page.html http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=32236 here is a couple of links to some knots fella
  7. agree with the above IF you are set on using it, but to be honest there really is no place for it in modern carp angling, there are no benefits from using it, and the danger to carp makes it a no brainer, when you see just how many carp waters ban it you can see just how much of a danger it is to the fish
  8. use soft uncoated braid with little pva bags and coated braid with or with out pva

    360 rig

like the man said, it can possibly cause damage to smaller fish if in doubt leave it out where fish welfare is concerned
  11. yep, a very good method, that i use with great results! free lined bread is still a top bait that a lot of anglers over look
  12. And the deepening pool, another classic
  13. sounds about right mate
  14. non fishing.....any thing by james patterson fishing..........terry hearns books, really looking forward to the 3rd one and chris yates books
  15. im currently reading this book, and yes its a great read but oh how times have changed!!
  16. Well, i played about with some old lead core over xmas and you guessed it, still cant find a way of using it safely, though terry hearn did an article about lead/chod and recommended using heavy mainline with l/core to reduce the overall chance of snapping of, that made me think it might be right to use heavy mainline and a weaker hooklink with the l/core. Still think its a no go though, so im trying rig marole kevlar leader for the chod rig, its metal free apart from the quick link swivel at one end, 50lb breaking strain and thinner than lead core so any bead will slip of with ease i will post a pic of the set up soon for you fellow anglers to give your opinion

    hooks

yes great hooks but shame about the finish, though i have had them snap once or twice! At present im using osprey tactical sabre points, and very pleased with the sharpness, finish and they are just right for both set ups i use at sapphire, the hinged stiff pop up and simple bottom rig, all i got to do now is get a fish on, the hard part
  18. reckon the big thing with river carping will be fish location, lots of observation during close season

    hooks

Hi all, thought i would start one about different hooks for different rigs as i never seem to know what hook for what rig and presentation with so many patterns like long shank, beaked, down turned eye curved shank ans many more, i figured after a few good replies this would make a good sticky thread. this is not a thread about "your favourite hook" but about what "style" of hook for certain rigs
  20. i have come across the osprey sabre point hook and they seem well made and very sharp, think i will get some more
  21. If you want to make snowman rigs you are best to learn to tie rigs, all you need to learn is the knotless knot, there is some good diagrams on here do a search, its very easy, snowman bait i would suggest a 15mm bottom bait with 10mm pop up. be careful with the lead clip set up, if the tail rubber cant come of to discarge the lead, then it becomes a fixed rig, or death rig, look at getting some inline leads (fox are best) free running is also very safe and very easy to set up, simple bomb with swivel thread mainline through lead, then a rubber shock bead then rig tied to mainline (swivel) hope this helps
  22. welcome mate, stick to the way your doing it only use floss for certain pop up rigs
  23. im looking into this as a project but not looking good and i`ve not had much time to try much but watch this space
  24. Hi spoon, if you do a search on here you will find a lot of rigs to have a play with but my advice is just use a simple no knot hair rig with an inline or running lead, these set ups will always be effective
  25. in this situation i would use running lead with slack line, 6 inch flourocarbon rig with raptor hook (they are so sharp) and criticcally balanced pop up, shot just under the bait. This rig should not tangle, the balanced pop up should allow a firm take, and running lead will give good bite detection, all being well
