  1. I have just loaded my reels with NGT 15lb camo mono line, it looks nice and has a low diameter (my old line i took of was about 17 years old oops but had not been used in all that time) i was a little concerned with thin diameter so cut a 2ft length and put a loop not each end, hooked one end to door handle and other on digital scales pulled for a break and it snapped at 12.5lb, the old ESP Crystal 12lb snapped at 5.5lb
  2. have to say in all the years of fishing i have never been checked but when i decided to return to fishing after a long break, first thing i did was go on .gov and buy a 2 rod course licence, and that arrived yesterday
  3. no that was a little lake in the Nene valley i was on and it was a very big common i was chasing, it was the Nene valley lake that kinda broke me did 2 seasons and zero carp out just a few bream and Tench
  4. Bloomin heck so im in process of joining up a local club lake i used to fish back around 2008 and an old mate is still fishing it
  5. Posting this on behalf of a my great friend Martin, he is fishing a low stocked syndicate lake in south yorks and has finally nudged his pb with this 32lb 5oz lovely common, pb was 29lb 7oz
  6. Ha ha yep i fully agree the name is a bad point
  7. been reading up on starmer baits and i am gonna give them a try, im thinking 15mmsweetcorn hookbait fished over some whole and chopped along with a scattering of canned corn
  8. Asking as i was looking for sweetcorn flavour boillies and found Starmer baits sell them on fleabay, gut feeling says steer clear but has any one used them, i have an idea for a bit of a baiting up
  9. the old Sundridge alarms cleaned up, new batteries and still work, very happy about that
  10. So i dragged gear out of loft, still got a pair of rods, no brand but they cleaned up got 3 baitrunners again 2 are good one not so and that will be useful if i need any spare parts main thing i will need is a pair of cheap bite alarms and a new landing net, have ordered new line for the reels as the ESP Crystal on them is about 17 years old
  11. some of you guys will remember me, some not but looks like from next year i will be picking up the rods again just doing a bit of day fishing on local lake that i used to fish a long time ago, need to go through my gear whats left of it and see what im going to need to buy first up will be new mainline as the stuff on my reels is about 15 years old lol
  12. here is another vote for Terry Hearns books, superb read
  13. Either Go Outdoors or Blacks or check on Ebay. I'm still using the Web Tex Warrior stove I recommend on this thread: http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=28868&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=stove&start=25 Have to say i have the web tex warrior, been using it for a few years now still working well, and in great condition, very pleased
  14. After we had Kye, my old greyhound put to sleep a few years ago, my daughter has pestered me non stop for another dog, i have had to be a the big bad dad and keep saying no, then a few weeks back she changed her question........."dad can i get a kitten"............"yes, providing its all done right" so we now have Albie, a white fuzzball
  15. i read it when it came out, did a week on broadlands and could not put it down, i was sitting in bivvy till midnight reading it with a little led lamp
  16. these days i tend to use same rig blow back for bottom or pop up, i tie a few up and if i go with a pop up i just nip a shot on
  17. what it means is, if the mainline snaps, can the rig slide off the mainline, this is in case a fish is towing line and lead around as this could lead to a fish getting tethered and dying.
  18. looks fine to me, so long as the top bead will let the rig come away in the event of a break
  19. might have to start posting my lunar images here
  20. Lovely old car, Ian.
  21. I used to put a bit of 8lb braid (soft uncoated) through the rig ring, tie a knot in the ends to form a loop the right length for the bait then add a bait stop after pulling the braid through the bait

    Rigs

I started out many years ago buying ready made rigs, but i always tie my own these days, that way if i lose a good fish to a rig, then its my fault
  23. in some situations lead core would be okay, but i suggest reading this sticky post http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=53599 also use the search function to find lots of posts on chod rigs
  24. A lot of anglers on here dont have a lot of time for leadcore, so you might not get much response to this as leadcore can and often is a potential death rig. I have deleted your duplicate post, hope you dont mind
  25. I use it on my small, course fishing reels for float fishing and ledgering, good stuff
