  1. try fishing with an inline lead and a really long rig, say about 18 inches the lead will pull into the silt but hook bait will sit on top if you use a nugget of foam on the hook
  2. is there really any need to use the chod? just asking
  3. looks pretty good, agree about the bivvy
  4. try doing a search on here for chod rigs, there is hundreds of threads
  5. if you scroll through this thread you will see the rig marole leader i use, i put shrink tube at the points i want the beads as leader is very thin http://www.carp.com/carp-forum/viewtopic.php?t=44395&highlight=

    Chod rig

Do you need to use a chod rig? what type of lake bed will you be fishing over? If you find your self using leadcore, google terry hearns video on you tube or on esp website! if you go for the much safer option of using a synthetic leader you can use a piece of shrink tube where the bead sits, then slide bead onto shrink tube so that it will still pull free, but best advice would be to rethink your rig and go with a SAFE rig
  7. Think you will find esp hooks pretty strong, maybe the kamasin ones are a bit thinner
  8. please stay away from leadcore, the very fact that a huge amount of lake owners have banned it from their waters tells a tale in itself try tungsten tubing or synthetic leaders
  9. most people that use the chod tend to go for as short a hook length as poss
  10. I dont see that you do not like his style of writing, he is far from a "whinge" yes a little eccentric but entertaining and not boring
  11. i have read it about 3 times, very good like all his books
  12. i would say when fishing over silt a long hooklink can be a good idea
  13. same as ^^^^^^^the most carp are caught on the most basic rig
  14. which river are you thinking of rob?
  15. Me i dont live nearby, thats the problem why i did not fish it last year, i had membership but ended up at willow pool instead in nene valley after that huge common its about a hundred mile trip for me
  16. Hi tinca and welcome to carp.com most anglers tend to use fairly standard no knot rigs for river carp, same as for lakes, think the key to river carp is prebaiting, getting them used to feeding in one area, i plan to have a go at the river nene this new year, hope to get a couple out!

    Thicky's book

    better than Terry hearns books?
  20. you dont need "the latest rig" just stick to a simple one with a decent bait and look for where the fish are
  21. the chod/silt rig can be used for bottom baits, even the great man himself (TH) recons it can be used for bottom or pop up bait, however, best not to use lead core on it due to fish safety/welfare, try a synthetic leader in stead
  22. crackin pics, well done again lads i really ought to get a trip over one day!
  23. on sapphire most people suggest not putting in a lot of bait, though not so sure now about that, fake popped up corn over sweetcorn seems to work well and last fish i see caught came out on mainline cell bait in early hours, watch out for the silt, it can be deep and real smelly in some places, if i think of any thing else i will let you know
  24. a good review rich, and a fair verdict on this lake, i have visited this lake when i have been at sapphire lakes and yes its 18 acres of canadian pond weed but what puts me of is the £12.50 for my girlfriend to share my bivvy, better of going to sapphire for less money and better rules
  25. A zig rig or very long pop up rig fished above the cabbage weed, but i wonder is it worth getting a marker rod out and looing for some clear patches? is the lake emmotland no 2?
