Great pic and what a lovely morning for you, bet that Common has never seen a hook before.

I had a bike ride after work today over to a place I like to sea fish this summer needed to see it at low water. Seen the price of grip leads in the tackle shop today they’re gone up in price since the 80’s 🤔 …I borrow a mould from a mate and knock out some. Well done on the catch of Rays. 👍

For all the members that have difficulty owning up to tackle purchases to their better half’s here’s a trick I came across …but be warned tho if you get greedy and abuse the said trick you could end up permanently damaged …

The first time I came across a metal framed cradle was on a trip to France the design had just been released and i was called over to give a hand with a photo. He had landed the fish a low 30 by the look of it and was going to be his pb placed the fish in the cradle pulled the flap over the fish and turned to get the scales and camera …when the fish flipped out of the cradle and landed with a thud flip flapped down the muddy slope to the water with him chasing after it. 🫣 he managed to get is hand on it before it the fish swam off. He was inconsolable and was his only run of the trip. I also blanked with just a couple of jack pike on a spinner to my name. I personally prefer a low mat and use the fox easy mat for its compact size but always drape the landing net over it if need be.

On the flip side of asking questions to anglers I’m always cautious of the answers given back after all I could meet you kev or you could meet me on a lake 😂

I was fishing a big double swim with a mate and we both had 2 low 20’s when we saw two anglers heading our way with buckets quick as a lightning he picked up the still wet unhooking mat and threw it into my bivvy then grabbed the net and dropped it in the water. When the guys asked us had we had any luck he answered 1st and said not a thing it’s been dead. …So off they went on their way and I asked what was all that about he answered there’s empty swims either side of us and they would have jumped in if we told them about the fish and with the extra lines it was a no no.

I would never go back to walking the lines out… never ever ever..,you get a run in the early hours hopefully to land a fish then you got to walk the length of a football pitch or further sometimes less maybe in wet long grass to find your broken branch mark that hopefully nobody has moved to use for themselves. I can’t recall having issues with line twist using sticks…but in the dark days before I used the sticks I was passing my nephew at the back of our swim’s doing the dreaded walk and noticed he was walking out his rigs with his bait runners on I said that explains how he was always getting line twist, he was never happy with his line

The syndicate carp lake anglers have been keeping any Tench they catch and transferring them to the two course lakes must have had around 15 to 5 lb ish put in there so far. I used a 10ft feeder rod 8lb main line and 6lb hook length in the summer months go up to 8lb 12-14 hook this handles the carp which average 8-10 lb ok but had them to 14lb Occasionally I put a second rod out which is a 8ft spinning rod almost like a fly rod action which can handle the carp to, use that with a half oz bomb…. Not much weed at the lakes and so much fun. My pb tench is 7lb ish but that was on carp gear had it at the carp society horseshoe lake a male fish.

Managed to get out yesterday with my mate in the afternoon for a couple hours in between the rain, and the sun actually came out. I gave my mate his Xmas presents, a bit late but he was knocking on death’s door after Xmas so handed over 4 tubs of various pop ups and wafters I had given to me 😉 and sat down with him to play guess the smell which is always funny 🤭 as he lost his sense of smell after catching Covid two years ago. Looks like he’s due for a pacemaker around May which as I said could come in handy for charging is phone in emergencies. We fished a small water where we could park up close to the swim I had 2 small carp on the light gear and he managed the one he was over the moon with it biggest smile Iv seen on his face since I had the galloping trots after a iffy curry. The water looked dead so after a lifeless 2 hours in the 1st pic of the swim we moved to a corner and had 3 in as many casts.

I recently got myself a Ridgemonkey toaster the small model and done the usual ham cheese, scrambled egg and bacon toasts, warmed up pies etc Any of you chefs got any favourites I could try ?
-
In my past Iv had a couple of “ the inevitable has happened moments “ In my case it was a relationship problem and the other was when I was fostering… but came back to fishing which if I’m honest keeps me sane Keep the account open you got mates on here and you can always message us …and your posts were always good 👍 As for the fishing gear you can replace it 6 months or a year down the line the lakes will always be there and the fish will have got bigger ..still got to catch them tho
-
I just want to have the use of one for a day to map out the dock. Got a good idea tho
-
And another thing I wish I bought years ago was a Ridge monkey toaster got me one two weeks ago. Been living on toasty’s, pancakes, scrambled eggs warming up pies and chips for the two wks 😏..£26 No more awkward frying pan to carry around
