I was fishing last weekend when a mother and her son he must have been 12 ish turned up to fish the nx swim the wind had got up and they were struggling to hold onto the bivvy and put the pegs in, the ground was solid I popped over and between the 3 of us got it pegged down I mentioned bringing a mallet nx time, the granddad turned up late afternoon and brought them a pizza and gave me one as a thank you The gesture made up for a iffy trip 👍

That was a close call. 😳 We fished it right after the floods on the day it reopened it looked dead which in a way it was the river had washed something in the lake and there was a fish kill Iv never seen so many crayfish in the shallows must’ve been starving with no angles bait going in, the bailiff seen us setting up on the disabled swim and said don’t bother go fish St John’s. (I can see a pattern forming here 🤔)

Well mate it goes like this…. We turn up to our pre booked swim that the bailiff had placed a stake with a laminated note saying the swim had been booked for the 48hrs, this was way in advance I believe 4 days, and theirs two guys fishing in there 🙄 looked for the sign and couldn’t find it. we drove to the office had a word with Chris the fishery manager and he said he made the sign and a bailiff said he seen it there on the Wednesday. Chris apologised and sorted a swim out on the Tar Farm set of lakes and said we just had to pay for the one ticket….. And we blanked 😏 Haven’t heard anything today from Linnar so il send a email off tomorrow to see if they got to the bottom of it, we were thinking next time we go il phone the head bailiff the day before to make sure there’s a sign up. Some might think we got to fish and for half price so it wasn’t to bad …but a 30llb plus fish is on my mates bucket list and oxlease is the best bet to get it. The organising he’s got to do to get away for the 48hrs you wouldn’t believe and I won’t go into his personal problems here.

This should have been shot at Oxlease disabled swim but in fact is taking at lake 5 peg 3 which thankfully is a disabled swim on the Tar farm complex… we’re not happy bunny’s tho

I’ve only used whiplash in the green .14 which I think is around 40lb that’s in 8 strand it fades in colour over the years but that doesn’t hurt the line. I used whiplash before it went over to 8 strand and that’s was just as good. j don’t bother to splash the reel will lake water I feel that only wets the surface coils of braid instead I under hand cast then a couple of casts further winding the tip under the water, I also put the tip under the water as I wind the spod in every time I cast Good luck with your choice 👍

Bit strong lads All I want from a cool bag is to keep the food and bait fresh and liquids cool for 48hrs and with the room for the gas and stove with a small ridge monkey and bits and bobs. And it does it in the heat of summer no problems….All in one bag.

You sounded like your doing an after match football report on match of the day 😉… but what a buzz getting a carp on a zig you almost can’t believe it when it happens. 👍

If I had a single bleep il be looking at the tips mate a carp could be trying to get rid of the hook maybe been on a while. I try to set the bivvy up as close to the rods as I can if it’s dark just need a flick on the torch to check, and I have the rods at slight angle to the water a bit like quiver tipping. Always near the rods even when I’m in a hot tub 😂

Hey crusian 👍 I had a bit of trouble with mice in the past in the shed, all bait was stored in metal bins with lids and I was catching a mouse a day using a trap called little nipper higher recommended 👍. I told the Mrs the story and she piped up must be the big box of grass seed she put in there 🙄 Traps are set all year round for me

I have the Atts as they come and have wondered the same Elmo…but I was in my mates swim when he was on zigs and was using the all singing and dancing shoe box size Delks 🫢 when I noticed the tip moving ever so slightly and then his alarm went off and I netted a mid 20 for him. When I use an adjustable float which I find better as you know for the obvious reasons easier to change the depths of your hook bait but it also asks like a running ledger that’s more sensitive… I should use a running ledger on my bottom rigs more often especially close in. 🤔

I was looking at the pic thinking what’s the lad up to now 🤔 is he bored and hoping to catch a bird ? Orrr is it a cunning clue that’s he had a fish and drying out the net ? …I must confess I thought you were after a bird but just seen the carp catch 😂

Well done Elmo and well deserved using a new method 👍 …. What was the bite like ? Iv had them moving the tip almost like quiver fishing before the alarm gos off, any movement and I pick up the rod and reel in.

@jules007 can’t you give us a clue ? Without naming, il be at my local tackle shop in the week could go under cover and do a bit of sniffing.

I would buy new, have you used ESP soft ghost fluorocarbon ? I’m in the market for some for a maggot hook length.

Swim is booked for the end of the month on Oxlease at Linear so Maggots it is ..

Time to waterproof the jackets, over trousers and salopettes. Popped into go outdoors to get Nikwax ended up getting a fleece jacket and bait 🙄

I was fishing a double swim with a mate and walked around to the far bank to feed hemp and corn 6 rod lengths out from the bank with the same setup up as you. I found a sort of side ways flick was better as you didn’t get covered on your head with the bait. 🤔 I did try 15mm boilies as we were packing up to gauge how far they went and was amazed how far you could get them out. .. Tip of the day.. Have a practice for 30 mins out your back garden just to get your eye in and let us all know how you get on, a pic would be interesting 🫣
