    Sky has her moments!

Like when a muntjac comes past. She is out after it like a shot. She ran out of the bivvy so fast she managed to bend a storm pole, as the long lead was attached to my bedchair, which also got moved towards the bivvy door. Siberian Huskies are a breed that aren't usually able to be  let off the lead at all. They get something into their head and just run, their recall is also terrible. They only follow or behave to a dominant owner, so although people may think I am overly strict with her, she respects that.

I have managed to get her to behave when she is off lead in the swim, the camou screen now serves another purpose, although she has managed to go over it, but a very sharp shout made her realise not to go anywhere.

Huskies as well as being able to jump a 6feet fence, can dig very quickly. I have seen her dig a hole to her back legs in soft soil in 2minutes. While most people think of huskies being sledge dogs, they are also hunting dogs for the Siberian Chuchki people.
The heterochromia, one blue and one brown eye is a husky trait as well. They can have either blue or brown eyes, unlike most breeds who have brown eyes, but they can have one of each.

Even on a walk at home I don't let her off the lead unless in a fenced enclosure!

A few months ago I had to get my jack russell put down because she had a tumor and now I'm starting to think about getting another one. She made an amazing friend but was terrible when it came to fishing and would have to be left at home. Not sure if its because it was in her nature, but she wouldn't settle, she would walk around sniffing everything until she got scent/sight of something and just give chase. Also had selective hearing and wouldn't come back when she was focused on something lol.
My question is do different breeds of dogs do better than others and is there any I should look at in particular?

I used to fish Taverham Mills regularly with inline leads, in the days of 'learning for yourself', rather than todays hyped up 'its all in the media'😱😖😆😉
The lake is quite weedy, a mix of lily beds, and in places, silkweed.

I rarely lost any fish due to weed build up on the lead, in fact with a zipp or distance shaped lead, most weed slid over the lead. Just don't use an inline lead with any neck😉. Even with tubing there was limited weed hang up.

I don't like dropping the lead at all, unless I have to.
The excuses of 'fish come up in the water without the lead', I'm sorry, I never found that true, they play the same, a fish fights how it wants to, deep or shallow. I think it is the fishes 'character' that decides how it fights. Some stay deep, some come up.
A particular fish I knew in Taverham every time it was caught was like a bag of spuds. You pumped it in with no scrap. I first caught it at double figures, and my mate Bruce caught it a few times up to 20lb.

Also, a fish that is being played, does not necessarily want to fight or run through the weed, dependant on type of weed,
Would you want your eyes covered when you are running?
Lily beds fish might use to run into, or there are channels through or under the weed.

I cannot see any reason an inline set up would cause more damage than any other type of set up.
Regards dropping the lead, horse for course innit. If you need to drop it due to snags, weed, whatever, then yes - drop it.
If you don't need to, then don't! No point in littering the lake bed for a laugh.

Thanks Ian I can't find the box at the moment my garage is still a massive mess, hopefully it will turn up, I could take my reel to work though, there is quite a range of washers there hopefully I can find one that fits, I did look earlier there are no washers on it at present so that may be why it isn't working well, it seems to be loading more at both ends and less in the middle like the spool is concaved

I don't get you point at all mate🤣
So your point is Delks are too expensive?
End of the day you can pick up a none-remote alarm for a tenner, or you can go for the top shelf Delks at 60.
If you want remote you can get cheapo alarms or you can get Delks at 135 a pop.
It's the same with all the top end alarms - Fox, Nash, Nevs, etc etc.
You can always go budget - JRC, Prologic, Wychwood etc. No one is forced to buy top end stuff.

You need to base your decisions on the levels of activity. If you see nothing just use singles or zigs. If you see activity then its worth applying bait - but not loads.
Even if they were boshing out like dolphins I'll seldom use more than a kg or 2 in winter.
Get rid of anything high in oil e.g. pellets.
Same as I'd use at any other time of year, but in moderation (particularly if they contain oils - which most fishmeals do).
To be honest buddy bait should be the last of your worries. Location is the tricky bit in winter. If you can find them you can catch them and you'll not need much bait.

I don’t mind keeping my hook baits in the cold better than them getting to warm tho. I keep my particles and pop ups in a metal bins with a lid in the shed..... just keep a lookout for mice with a tin opener !

Helicopter for me i'd go straight through on the mainline, but a bit of good quality tubing would be OK if you feel the need, rigs would depend on what the rig was fishing on, the choddy  or something like it would be best, or a wafter if you want something on the deck.

I assume you mean anti tangle sleeves? They are used to prevent the trace from tangling on the main line, which happens more often than people think. When a heavy lead sinks, it is very easy for a supple trace to 'spiral' around the main line but when you wind in, it will probably unravel itself and you don't know you've been fishing ineffectively all the time. They also help stiffer rigs to reset if a fish picks up the bait and spits it out by pushing the trace away from the lead. You can reduce the possibility of tangles by always hitting the clip on the cast and feeling it down on a tight line.

I once saw a mole swim which I thought was strange. I was searching for carp with my mate and we came into this swim and this little creature had just left the margin. We couldn't work out what it was at first but those massive claws gave it away. It swam right out into the middle of the pit and gulls started dive bombing it so it came back. I actually called the mrs there and then (she's got a masters in zoology) to make sure I wasn't going mental. She told me that all mammals can swim which was news to me. Either way, there is something about a mole swimming that still makes me chuckle to this day.

I haven't mentioned this to anyone before as they would think I was mad but I heard a splash in the margins and saw a squirrel swim on his back across the river and climbed up a tree on the far bank!

I was sorting a cupboard out and found some old pics. One made me chuckle as if I'd not had the picture no one would believe it. It's not super imposed as one mate reckoned. The pigeon was a racing pigeon that landed in front of my mates bivvy and was obviously very tame. My mate took it home in the end and it flew off the next day.
Anyone else got pics of things you didn't expect to see on the bank?
