  1. Having just got back from a blank night on the park lake, the boy and I were unloading the car when a neighbour came up and asked me if I was interested in rehoming some “old” reels and bits that she was about to chuck in the bin. I said I’d have a look, after all, I could clean them up and find a home for them (or bin them myself!) so she soon returned with 3 diawa windcasts z5000 reels, spare spools still in their boxes! One has a bent handle, but they are otherwise pristine! she also gave me half a dozen fox single sticks and a pair of what appear to be fox micron M shaped (they’re copies) alarms! She wouldn’t accept a penny for them either. the alarms will be checked that they work and I’ll gift them on to a youngster in need of a first set, the single sticks have been snaffled by the boy and the reels already have a home on my spare carp rods… just need to repair the 3rd. anyone know much about the windcasts? They seem lovely reels from what I can see.

  4. I've had mine a few years now, they still look mint I have underlit ones newest version I guess, they are the most reliable alarms I've ever owned, batteries last ages, you can buy all spares for them if the casing does get tired, I initially bought the standard receiver, and it was the one thing that I didn't like tbh, it always gave this weird double bleep for the first bleep, used to scare the bejeesus out of me, I switched to the deluxe and it's now perfect, so buy the deluxe one and save yourself going through that. But yeah still brilliant, I love them.

I was in that swim in 2007 when the big floods hit. Me and my mate were chilling having had a couple when the most intense rain arrived. We were bivvied up maybe 15 yards back from the water and in the space of an hour the water had come up so much it reached the bivvies. We had to pull everything out of the ground and dump it in the van to get out. Very nearly got flooded in. It was crazy. Sorry to hear you've had problems. Don't let it ruin your session. Enjoy yourself 👍👍👍

    Minimising to Essentials

Just thought I'd update on the korda compac camo luggage 👍 The 3 rod holdall fits 3 rods made up with my daiwa sportsmatic-x 5500 reels, they fit really nice and not too tight. Its also carrying a spod/marker sleeve on one of the outside pockets. Distance sticks, net/handle, and camera tripod all fits in it too. The real challenge was stripping down the nash monster carp holdall and tfg coolbag, I've transfered to a 45l rucksack and a xl coolbag. The hardest part was emptying the ridgemonkey armoury into a korda basix tackle box, what I've ended up doing is putting all the metal/kickers etc into the basix box and using a small case/bag for the hooklink materials etc. I've done it though and feels much more organised. The 45l rucksack takes the tackle, scales, radio, popups, camera, torches/lights and some spare batteries etc. The xl cool bag has everything to do with cooking. I can fit a kettle, stove, gas, ridgemonkey deep xl pan and griddle, with room in the bag for teabags, coffee, milk and food etc. Has some straps I can slide the ice blocks into. It also has a front pocket where I can keep cutlery etc. And the bottom of the coolbag I can keep a thin chopping board too. All I can really say at the moment is I'm pleased with how organised all my kit is now. Quality feels wicked too, but time will tell I suppose 👍🤣 sad to see the monster carp holdall go, it was the first ever holdall that my dad got me when I was a kid, it really gas took a beating 🤣

  8. Wind knot is a fallacy it’s actually a bad cast knot lol.😂 I get them when fly fishing but I’m not the best caster in the world. dont get many coarse fishing as I tend to keep lines as tight as possible and found when line goes slack is when you get them.

  9. Mine have lasted 8-9 years in all weathers (I did loose one when I damaged the gasket during a battery change, my fault tbh) As @elmoputney says best alarms I've had. So simple that nothing can really to go wrong with them.

  10. apologies for bringing up an old thread, but i'm looking to getting 3 of these buzzers for this season ....(wanted to buy some 5yrs ago, but a couple of anglers said they were rubbish )...may be able to get a decent 2nd hand ATT's set, as gardner this spring are bringing out a NEW ATT A alarm with speaker! [ facebook.com/reel/551231777923249 ] bought my Neville alarms 5 years ago, and they are OK-ish other than you have to flick the switch up and down to sort ya tones sounder box etc...when ya getting on... you forget how to do this lol!!! anyways....my questions are: 1/ you guys still using them... how are they still reliable ? 2/ are the 'rubbery' cases on earlier models or on all models, if buying 2nd hand any particular MK or year ? 3/ is there much difference with the standard compared to ATTs Deluxe Receiver ...other than distance away from rods? TIA, CHEERS!

  14. Thanks for reply Roughtor, Lot's of memories about old days in Kernow, pre internet and finding places in an old book called Carp fishing in UK. Sorry to have gone off post on this thread, but sadly think have to live with otters now, gate has been opened years ago... bit like foxes in chicken farms years ago. Anyway Roughtor. maybe old blokes like us could share memories on the 'Vintage People' thread, might be worth a try? S
