    Rod Shots

Back on the rods, feels like an absolute age since I've been out (July on the syndi), and how I've missed it. The france trip doesn't count obvs 🤣 forgot that already! Was doing a garden re-design through summer after the lakes closed for spawning and that took right up until just before france late Sept. Got tonight to get back in the swing of things, in a swim I know, the spots still there just a bit smaller with more weed growth. The lake is back up to overflowing due to the recent floods, Got 3 rods close together, fed about 1k of boilie and crumb. Heard 2 crash out since I've been here in the swim next door up against the island snags. Here for 3 nights next week and gonna push myself to carry on into winter, targets not been out so fingers crossed 🤞

  2. Hey, I'm not responsible...😆 I know what you are saying, although I am wary of angling practice even promoted in magazines in the past, where tackle and fish safety were not shall we say, of the highest quality. When tackle manufacturers are advocating unsafe practice... Anyway as I said, I will see if I can add a section, increase the Mods workload and censor every video, (joking, partly) so that media ideas can be passed on.

  3. I think it would be good idea to have a section of the forum where people post links to good you tube videos they have recently watched.

  4. This is a small carp on a Marco Cortesi pin its actually a Matt Hayes version but they are all built by the same firm under licence

  5. Marco Cortesi reels are not too bad, however, the quality control is patchy, you can get good or bad... Strikeright pins are solid, don't drop the Bakelite one, they shatter... A good pin for carpingwould be a Speedia wide drum or a Mordex Merlin, possibly if you wanted modern materials, an Okuma or a Westlake Severn or Trent, all are good pins for carping This is a 22lb 10oz mirror on a Speedia wide drum and an 8' sharpe cane spinning rod

  7. This might be a decent reel for you. https://www.anglingdirect.co.uk/okuma-ls-6k-baitfeeder-reel?srsltid=AfmBOoohGn5-h9uyERsp47cwbbqrVhCPxTGbTBfejT41xWi-87nfrw0Br50#

  8. That's why I thought a seperate section might be useful it would make it easier to find any boat/tech based topics and tech and would help the forum get thrown up more on Google searches, which would lead to more traffic for the site.

  9. Bait Boats are under the Tackle and Equipment section. I can possibly add a 'sticky' in there, but with technology advances a thread is only relevant for a maximum of 3 years and the same on Google, who 'limit' their search finds now to 5years maximum. That is actually one reason I split New Purchases into separate threads as the original was started in 2018. Searching for an original post on that thread doesn't show up.

  10. I'll look into it. We do have the DVD and book reviews, I'll see if I can add a new section in that area of the forum. Big problem with anything is the 'sponsored' video. Fox produced a couple of pike fishing DVD's and the PAC asked for them to be removed as some very fish dangerous practices were shown. Anything that is bad angling practice is a problem if it gets put onto a video and onto YouTube, TikTok etc

  12. I think it might help encourage more members to post and make threads and would encourage discussions and get more interaction on the forum, if there were a dedicated section for them.

  14. Nash, a brand I try to avoid giving money to. At Gladwells we had Nash deliveries come in straight from Felixstowe docks. I spent a lot of time sending tackle in the rods and reel boxes back to Nash as it was delivered broken, or was returned broken shortly after purchase. Then add in my own personal Nash Tackle problems and lack of faith in his ethics... In terms of reels I do like the Shimano ST6000 baitrunners Johnson Ross aren't the cheapest, but are a shop I trust: https://johnsonrosstackle.co.uk/shimano-baitrunner-reels/15312-shimano-baitrunner-st-6000rb-reel.html

  15. I have a 6000 shimano baitrunner on my 7ft rod and it feels fine, they might be slightly big for 6ft Rods but I cant help thinking you will outgrow those pretty quickly and want some longer rods, The 55 sized custom black would also be good, that has a 15kg drag which would handle the job nicely, the 8k has an 18kg drag and they will handle anything, they might be a good choice for you.

  16. Maybe a tad too big for the rods now, but like you say, maybe for 10ft rods at most, that's the biggest my rod bag can hold upto... https://www.okumafishing.com/en/product/LS-6K-spinning-reel.html On the Carp Reel section, do like the Custom Black Feeder Reel, Atomic Carp Reel.

  21. Just been looking at 3 okuma reels 🤔🤔🤔

  22. Im looking at reels very tempted to get a centre pin for float and stalking but a nice fixed spool or freespool might be the way forward

  23. If I was you, I wouldn't go too small on the reels as match reels, small feeder reels won't have man enough drag capability to catch carp and they will soon wear out, also they aren't made for carp strength lines so the line lay will be horrible. Personally i would go for something okuma they are much better made than most cheaper end reels.

  24. After now spooling, I feel as I need "Better" reels for the 6ft Rods.... Been looking at Daiwa Ninja Match & Feeder reel, Sonik Xtractor Reel, Nytro NTR MK1 & 2 (MK1 half price at A.D).... Mmmmmm decisions 🤔🤔

  25. I'm not the best 'pin user, simply because I don't do enough stalking or fishing with it. Too much time behind the battery... It is the pin I learnt on, and I found easy to use, both casting and playing fish. Just remember that a a spinning spool slowed down with too much pressure can lead to a burnt thumb...

  27. I would like to think we have a responsible membership here that wouldn't promote unsafe videos though. Also they can be removed if they violate this

  28. I actually use a Marco Cortesi centrepin myself, usually rigged up lift float method for stalking, or for a small fish water, or with a freelined dog biscuit hanging from the rod tip just touching the water surface. Both methods are great fun, especially the freelined dog biscuit where the 'screech' is the indication of a bite as I am sat back with the rod butt under my hand. I've managed carp to just under 20lb, and do think with no gearing you have more feel. The real reel specialist is Chris Yates.

  29. @bluelabel I believe this is your specialist subject.

  30. This could also be utilised as a boats and tech section for other things like drones, sonar, fishfinders etc Like it loathe it, it's here to stay and anglers talk about it all the time.

  31. There is some great vids out there tbh, I follow a guy who makes his own hydrolysates and stuff, his vids are good.

  32. I do 1 with the Fox Mini Micron V2, the amount of Tech in those for £20 it's unreal....

  33. Could just open a new Topic/Thread under "YouTube Watches" ?? There's quite a few coming out now, plenty Products Videos...

  34. I think a section might encourage more members to post about them and bait boats have more specific and varied issues than rods or reels, I think it might encourage new members or maybe some of the more technical members to post again.

  35. It's a good idea we still have a DVD review section, and who can remember those things?
