Your rig pic with a pop-up gives very similar properties to the Bent Hook rig, but with no mouth damage.
Difficult to eject, nice low lying pop-up, close to freebies.
Woke up this morning on my new target for the year to find the carp fairy had visited in the night, I found a deeper and a spod bobbing about in the margins…
the lad opposite had cast out both and snapped the braid! Both were returned to their rightful owner after his mate came round to collect them. 🙄
Got to Park Lake at 5am this morning....set everything up and had to nip off to a footy game with little en at 9am, kick-off was at 11am in Manchester....mate watched all mi gear while he was fishing too.
Got back about 5pm....all set for night now, had a takeaway, mate has lost 2 fish already.
Gardner do some quite nice tungsten ones, that have got a concave end so they fly back up the line,
If non flying I just use the normal ones as light as I can, just to help get the line out the way, but I only use them if I think my lines might need extra concealment and I'm fishing fairly slack close in
I must admit I am not a fan of backleads, to me the only place to use them is to keep lines away from boats.
I have used them in the past to keep lines down in tight swims, but noticed indication was much reduced.
Captive backleads are probably the best way to not lose them as long as they do drop off on the take or as you lift the rod up.
I used to add and screw in Solar Indicator clips to a slightly drilled out 1oz inline lead, and a small closed steel screw eye then along came Gardner Captive backleads, which solved my problems with boaties.
Did a 24 hour on Wednesday and it was hot. I prefer my brolly system to a bivvy as it fits in the rod quiver and is less to take and set up. Didn't bother with the overwrap as it was so mild. Plastered on the sun cream. legionnaires cap to protect my neck and spent most of the day sat in the shade in the trees that surround the swim and drank cups and cups of orange squash. Still got a touch of sunstroke and had a headache yesterday!
