Agree stevo .... black & white is the go to . But that day couldn't get a take so played about with different combos, that little slice of orange did the trick that day , so definitely worth keeping busy & making things happen for anyone just getting into zigs .

Black always at the bottom of what ever combo as it would be in shadow & as you point out will silhouette against the sky . The colour change is more to do with matching the hatch on the day.

  4. I've done very well using yellow pop ups over a red fishmeal bait and white pop ups over a brown fishmeal bait. That said , yellow pop ups have accounted for over half the carp I've caught in my life. Infact I'd say more like 75% of my catches have fallen to yellow pop ups. Then again that is what I used for 90% of my fishing. This has only started to change over the last few years since I've been using wafters to match my freebies. I have had some yellow wafters made too , but not as productive as yellow pop ups nor matching wafters.

  7. On my runs water this year bright yellow pineapples and pink plum were the main pop-up baits that produced fish, even though the water is quite murky. Last year on Nazeing, very clear water, even brown baits were found in water as deep as 15ft by tufties. Now I've explained that, for years my favourite pop-up colour has been a brown/red colour , even fading to washed out in the garlic spice flavour of my own. It produced as part of a snowman, (over a food source bottom bait) or as an individual on its own in numbers of waters. Possibly because it does work so well, I have complete faith in it almost everywhere; in fact last year it produced most fish on Bromeswell, although this year I did not use them for some strange reason.

Do good choice of colours not vary due to water clarity, that's been my general thoughts lately tbh when considering pop ups but I thought black stood out if the fish are looking up to it from below as it's the most contrasting colour to the light from the sky,

All colours work in their day but I've found the bigguns always come to plain old black.

  10. Been trying not to get it anywhere near my hands though as I'm sure it will be repellent to fish.

    Chub...

I know that around a few of the mills when FMS had some of the bank rights there were some barbel caught, but FMS members kept their catches very tight lipped.

  12. Been using the jungle formula and I haven't had a single bite since ive been using it. Just been having a sort out in the shed for my France trip next month. So far I've counted 27 tubs of pop ups and wafters , 57 leads, 17 different hooklinks.
