I'm with you there...….. I just say "I'd rather not know mate"...….. Turn up, find fish, fish for them.. I may steer clear of a swim (If poss')if someone has been quietly plodding, putting the effort in and started nicking a few fish. But telling someone you've pre-baited a swim can put an angler in a bad frame of mind before they've even started..... Can give them an unnecessary moral dilemma...2 points

Gonna have to have a proper go for one...…. Got about 18mnths to kill before, hopefully a ticket comes up... Perfect opportunity to get some use out of my club ticket...… A lad I got chatting to showed me a pic of a near 30 mirror he'd had from the Chelmer, off the top...… Quite a few lakes flood into the Chelmer/Blackwater canal, too. for decades..... Who knows what could be in there.... Seen pics, too, of smaller fish, mid doubles, but real dark lookers...…… All that footwork though, lol..... To be fare, I could probably do with it2 points

Very true mate...TBH I've got a club ticket that covers a lot of the Chelmer. I really ought to get more out of that ticket..2 points

Silly Rules
B.C. and one other reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
My Earith syndicate had no rules banning prebaiting, so I did it, basically putting bait across the whole of the lake before I started fishing as a member, (joined, but 2 weeks prebaiting, learning and marker float it), and putting in my left over bait at the end of a session. If somebody fished one of my prebaited swims, good luck to them, I hope they caught. If I turned up and they were where I wanted to be, oh well, my tough luck, I'll have to go elsewhere. I did in fact tell people what swims, even what bait I was using, although I did hold back my slight tweaks😮😉 Somebody else could use Trigga, but I found my home rolled version produced a bit better, I had increased the attraction while keeping the long term food bait working. In terms of getting to the lake, I often arrived around midnight after work and set up in the dark for a two night session. I had to know 'my' spots, the marker float work to produce a map was invaluable.2 points -

Your bailiff story has touched on one of my pet hates-people who bait/pre bait a swim and tell you all about it, like it gives them some kind of right to fish it and everyone else should leave it alone! If I’ve paid upwards of £500 for a ticket and travelled 3 hours to get there, no swim is off limits!2 points -
You know Nige is defo telling him you said that! 😂🤣2 points

Silly Rules
kevtaylor and one other reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
Part of the problem in fishing today is the media, or part tackle manufacturers advocating dangerous practices, unsafe fishing and too many modern anglers being sheep, following the setup recommended. Not enough anglers think for themselves. Rules are put in place for 'numpties', to cover the idiot factor, to keep owners or even other anglers happy, (often in the case of match vs carp anglers). If an owner thinks barbless hooks are better for fish then that is what they think, follow the rules. In most cases I think rules are in place for a very good reason. No leaders, no leadcore, no plastics, or minimum 15lb line, there is some reasoning behind them all. What winds me up is anglers who don't think rules apply to them. If you have a genuine gripe with a rule, as long as you can put your point across to the owner or bailiff why then he may consider it and go with your reasoning, ir give you a vaild 'no'.2 points -
Wasn't he anti shelfies? I'm very happy to be using them. I have zero knowledge about shelflife baits in general but I'm confident that the ones I use are ok.1 point

Definitely mate..... The caddis fly was a good pointer and also, how little bait was used on a couple of the fish. Sometimes less is definitely more...1 point

I got lucky getting the ticket, don't should imagine I'd get the chance again. Long waiting list. I knew I couldn't put the time in for a few years with a young family, but I will & there's a few absolute stunners I'd love to bag before I give it up.1 point

Time to move on maybe imo….. If that sort of malarkey is going on.... Let them get on with it.... Lifes too short to feel like that in your precious spare time...…. Shame they've spoiled it a bit for you...…. Atmosphere is key for me, need good vibes when I blank...1 point

Think personally you need to learn to respect everyone😉 If it wasn't for anglers like Kevin Maddocks and Rod Hutchinson, Richard Walker you wouldn't have carp fishing as you know it now.1 point -

The quote feature of this site does not malfunction, everyone else seems to know how to use it, and I know at least 2 of us know how to do multiple quotes, with our replies in between. Protonmail? Deanobaggio@protonmail.com, or dezanimeaux@protonmail, strange that😉1 point -

I use the Nash Instant Action Tangerine Dream quite a bit, in fact it's the only bait that has stopped me buying Richworth Tuttis for my cold water angling. Yes these baits are pretty hard out of the bag, but that's because they are dried for 48 hours after cooling. They soon soften up once in water, if they didn't I doubt they'd be such a good bait. At times I've had access to quite large quantities of Nash shelflife baits very cheaply (misshapes) (friend of Bayesy) and have fed my lake with them when there has been little bait going in by anglers and the fish have thrived on it, so it can't be that bad. All my other bait has been shelflife for the last five years and my catch rate certainly hasn't suffered. I really should empty and get rid of the two bait freezers in the garage.1 point

My syndic was great the last 2 years, everyone got on, now 2 of the complex bailiffs are on this lake, there is a definite divide, bitchyness. I don't get involved, but one of the bailiffs is a bit of a plonker to me & I recently found out that I tend to fish his favoured swim & found the spot he's been baiting. SO, I find it a bit playground, which considering I'm hardly ever there, is a bit off putting.1 point

Still there swimming about in the Chelmer waiting for you.1 point

Thanks mate ill look into the boilie/corn toppers, it'll be a good alternative for the lake plastics are banned on. I've been using plastic toppers on a different lake recently and found its working in my favor lol. Funnily enough as I was reading your post yesterday I had horrible drop back and missed a fish which was on a bait with a topper 😂1 point

Yes. I should imagine it's a tough call to make...… I find it hard to "vouch" for a lot of people, even friends sometimes. Been made to look a fool once or twice on that one.1 point

One person's 'silly rule' is another person's 'answer to a problem'. We may not like or agree with that answer, but it will usually have been implemented after some thought and/or discussion. I think most seasoned anglers would be shocked at how many seemingly safe rigs haven't worked how it is perceived they would in the event of a line breakage (for whatever reason). Having bailiffed waters for many years, and having removed hundreds of rigs from various types of snags and rescued tethered fish I do know the truth. Interviewing potential members can help avoid the need for lots of rules but you might just be amazed by the amount of really nice, decent people, that talk the talk but don't quite live up to your expectations. Please trust me that everyone's opinion on the need for rules changes when the fish/fishery belongs to them.1 point

Shelf life boilies
cyborx reacted to snowmanstevo for a topic
So stabilised is a posh word for shelfie 🤔1 point -
If you shout encouraging words at them and follow them like your their coach they let you past very quickly. Must be something to do with them being out for a casual ride and not wanting to be told their mile time is too slow and they’ll never win the tour da France like that’ 😂😂1 point

Wow you really have got it in for shelf life boilies, Show us on the dolly where the naughty boilie touched you1 point

Amen to that...…. Some people can't be educated, fact of life mate..... I've only got so much patience for certain types on the bank..... My fishing time is very limited and selfish as it may sound, it's "me" time...….. Trying to communicate with or put up with someone of a different mind set, takes up too much of my energy, so I tend to look for a different venue instead...….. I used to think it was a generation thing, but I've met plenty of younger anglers with a decent attitude.... Some companies have encouraged a certain type onto the banks, not my cuppa..1 point
-
Silly rules...….. These are usually applied on waters that let anybody fish, syndicate or not..... Some syndies are no better than day ticket venues for the sort of behaviour that carries on, lack of etiquette …….. Other syndies will vet you thoroughly before placing you on a waiting list that could take a few seasons before you are offered a ticket, possibly a Winter ticket to start with.... IMO these are worth the wait, usually few silly rules. You don't need many rules if you only let the right sort of anglers on...… This will sound snobby and a bit elitest, but it's the way it is. By going through this process, you know that any members or future members would have been through the same process. So all members are of a similar mindset and should, in theory, all get on with each other. The management will be making sure that the fish are fished for safely and protected when caught, the surroundings, bank side and wildlife are respected. And just as important , that other members are respected and allowed to fish in peace...….. One bad apple can rot everything that has, with a lot of time and effort, been created...….. One bad apple can lead to a lot of stupid rules being enforced on everyone else , long after they get kicked off...1 point

I really don't have time for people who get annoyed by people publishing a decent catch, yes it attracts plenty of national attention in the angling world but so what? Its all part and parcel of fishing. Yes there'll be a good chance of more people on that bit of river now but that's just one challenge that makes us decent anglers. If i catch a 50lb carp from the river lea tomorrow, i'll have a simple choice, keep it quiet and only tell a select few or i could let the magazines know and have my "15 minutes of fame" so to speak, i shouldn't be bashed for whatever choice i make because i can guarantee that it'll upset someone whichever choice i make.1 point -
No particle - why? because numpties turn up with un-soaked and boiled particles - chuck them in and the fish are either ill or die, look at Benson at Bluebell, unprepared tigers I believe, swelling in the stomach. Also why some say you can only use the particles in jars - its been done correctly so the owner has peace of mind. No artificial/plastic baits - why? because if snapped of/cut offf or whatever that's a permanently baited rig sitting pretty on the bottom waiting to be picked up time and time again, whereas boilies or other non plastic baits will come off the hair after a couple of days or so, therefore no longer being picked up. No homemade baits - why? well what have they got in? has it been tested for a good period of time? people use all sorts of stinky winky to save money and the products may not even be safe for consumption. ALL good rules those - very sensible1 point

It’s the UV that kills the diseases. Not being dry. Most can lay dormant in dry/slightly damp conditions for a week or more. Places with no dips, or their own equipment, are a ticking time bomb IMO. You can’t trust every angler to do the right thing. Dips are annoying, and most aren’t maintained properly. But not a silly rule.1 point

Silly Rules
The Anglin' Brothers reacted to salokcinnodrog for a topic
Rules are put in place to keep landowners, lake owners, clubs and fish safe and happy, so as such there are no silly rules. You may not agree with them, but they should be followed, although there is one on a well known tackle manufacturers lake that I find is a form of pollution, and is also a practice that must be stopped: 'all leads must be dropped on the take'. As such I will never fish that manufacturers lakes, I find the rule abhorrent, a disgusting practice. No plastics, brilliant rule.1 point -

I could listen to his fishing story's all day long, you can tell just by watching and listening to him how passionate he is about his fishing. I agree @harpz_31. Not only do big baits not prevent smaller fish, they'll give you less of a chance of hooking the older/wiser (hence bigger in most cases) fish too imo.1 point

We have the biggest feed up of the year to come before we start putting bits n pieces in for winter. I agree with Vik, give them some proper grub until December. This time of year I end up emptying the bait freezer and bait cupboards. Just chuck everything in lol.1 point

I'd take absolutely no notice whatsoever of what ever comes out of Ali H's mouth or any other commercial angler in regards to fish safety..... Seen a few and heard of many times where fish are retained for unnecessary lengths of time, whilst waiting for the Gimp, sorry, photographer, to arrive... Only for the poor stressed out creature to be then, kept out of the water for far too long a time, so the gimp can get enough shots off.. Followed by the immortal words on camera...… "Now let's get her back in the water as quick as we can"...…… .. 😀1 point

Topping up at first light?
AndyCh reacted to Pete Springate's Guns for a topic
I’m probably in the ‘remove their dangly bits brigade’! This has been reinforced this morning when a guy arrived opposite at first light and proceeded to spod for 2 hours.....Its ok for him, he’s down for another 3 nights, he does this every week in the same swim, usually midweek hence I was somewhat surprised and disapointed to see him today. Complete lack of respect for others; the lake is hard, pressured and swims are tight. Cock.1 point
